it also increases infinitely if you somehow get stuck on the very edge of collision

I think the default clipping plane distance is 3cm, so you won't see anything closer than that

Things too close to the camera won't render.
You can go to a world with a smaller clipping plane set. Lowest it goes is 1cm. But still if your Avi is smaller than that yoyr out of luck I think

adding the world sdk to an avatar project shouldnt break anything if theyre the same version right?
im trying to add seats to my new avatar and on my last one adding the world sdk broke a lot of things and took a lot of work to fix but i dont remember if it was because of a version mismatch or if thats just a bad thing to do

just add component , vrc_station, do not use the prefab its all sort of broken, add it to a gameobject with a collider, also dont disable chair that breaks it, disable the collider instead if you wanna turn it 'off'
(colliders do not work for quest)
are we sure about that one though cuz disabling the chair has always been the only way to get it to turn off on quest too

Most likely because they have their safety settings up, and you're a new user so they automatically have your avatar blocked

How do you force a particle system to emit again via an animation without toggling the entire game object off and on? I want to be able to emit a particle multiple times based on an animation being triggered, without destroying any previous particles that might still be active.

You must obtain at least "New User" Trust Rank in our Trust and Safety system in order to upload content. You can get this by just spending a few hours in VRChat, hop some worlds, and make some friends. Give it some time and you'll be able to upload content in no time.
As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

To me it just looks like they could be using any shader that does outlines, Poiyomi Toon Shader being one of them. Don't know what line size they are using or what other settings they might be using

Yes, almost always the process for updating the SDK is just import the new version over the old one, unless you have a really old version, or are going from SDK2 to SDK3

otherwise you can only use up to 3 trackers
also, ensure that you're using the "Lock all" tracking mode to make the chest tracking track position on top of just rotation

you can either use the "Viseme" parameter in your Fx controller, or the "Voice" parameter
Viseme is a 0-14 value corresponding to the specific sound you're making based on the viseme index
Voice is a 0-1 float based on the loudness of your voice
you only need to add it to your FX controller, not to your synced parameters list

Uploading to others' accounts directly is against TOS. They can send you the files but you have to upload it yourself.
I really do wish that vrc has a 1-time token system for uploading for someone else.

I would like to specifically send a short haptic event to the remote that's closest to the interaction between a sender/receiver script for the new colliders when they interact

I think if there is no other way, may have to use a combo of osc and steamvrSdk to send haptic but i doubt this will be fast enough

So that you don't have to scroll through that giant list.
the Animation window shows you the animations that exist on whichever controller you have in your Animator. that means that if there's a set of animations you want to edit, you can throw those onto a new controller, and put that controller in your Animator
you would still have to upload it in unity

I've got my safety set to VeryPoor and 1,000MB (1GB seems to be limit for upload anyways)
As far as i’m aware the avatar only has physbone, receiver/sender, GameObjects, Animator just on main avatar, about 8 audio sources, and the playable layers FX controller and menu/param. No scripts or unused object components that would cause an error
It does use the vrlabs world constraint prefab too

The avatar is expected to be roughly 200MB, checking for any error output in console right now
it's a beat saber avatar.

Quest avatars can't have audio sources, so sounds don't work on quest. Contacts work, though.

It should be possible, although the hatch and weapons and all of that stuff should have bones or blendshapes that move those parts so you're able to animate every part to reach that effect, had to add bones to a weapon from titanfall for a reloading animation

Might be the name causing issues. I know having a minus - symbol in avatar name can cause it not load in client.

Okay this may seem truly dumb but i upgraded my pc and had to reinstall unity hub. it installed a newer version and for the life of me I can not figure out how to open up a project. the newer version look way different
its unity hub 3.1.2 is there a way to redownload the older hub?

Idk what was causing that issue for me but i do know that lowering the amount of maps on a single avatar getting it around 100MB or so fixed it, just uploaded 4 versions with different song choices

Specifically tried so far: restart, clean avatar cache, removing other avatars from my creations, reuploading avatar. in-game "my creations" avatar list is stuck in a state that was true an ~hour ago, but isn't anymore

You don't really have to interact though, just go explore some worlds in public instances.
Typically getting friends is the best way to gain rank
Interacting and getting people on your friends list is a huge boost though. May take a while without that.

so, I had an avi that had DD; converting it to physbones now; mostly works ok, but trying to figure out why breasts aren't moving
adding a physbone to breast_lot root doesn't show the rest of the hierarchy as physbones as it does with other physbones

My guess is that the avatar wasn't in a proper T-pose when it was uploaded. This can lead to VRChat misunderstanding on which way the fingers are supposed to bend. If you enforce the T-pose, that should fix your problem.
Go to the import settings of your model and configure the humanoid rig. There should then be a dropdown menu labeled "Pose". Select that and select the enforce T-pose option.

I don't know how feasible it would be to do even if it is possible. if you can't put anything on the tracking balls, that means the only way would be using a shader somehow, and while you might be able to use some sort of light and track the shadows of the balls (which would require the balls to cast/receive shadows which I think they do), you would still have a massively complex shader to write to track the balls position...... although now that I am thinking... you might be able to use a camera and pass that to a shader somehow...... Anyways, these are just ramblings as I am not super educated on the topic of shaders, but still, unless I am having some major oversight here, I think it would be extremely difficult.

It will always be an issue because the avatar data needs to be unencrypted at some point for it to be used in game. This data will always be able to be accessed by end users, so ripping will never go away, just become more difficult potentially.
VRChat can make it as difficult as possible, but it is not worth fighting a losing battle wasting tons of resources on this when it would be better spent on introducing new features that would actually benefit people in my opinion, like the new IK, avatar dynamics, and all the new stuff they are working on in the back.

Yo so I just got a headset a few days ago and ive been toying around. Is it normal for short avatars to feel like half your body is underground (also allowing you to literally duck down under the world)? Like is there no way to actually change your avatar's height that makes you feel actually short and not buried in the ground?
I'm also having issues with the avatar I'm making where my avatar is standing on it's toes, and if I sit on the floor, I'm actually hovering above it.

Like your eye position is in the wrong place?
For the being buried in the ground, if you have the view very off on the vrc avatar descriptor could cause that, although I am not super sure on this one. Depending on how short you are talking about, this could be caused by the floor colliders on the map being slightly lower than the actual floor (although you would have to be minuscule for this to happen).
The standing on the toes is a thing vrchat does with avatars that have mapped to bones when your avatar is lifted off the ground. If you make sure your user real height in the vrchat application's settings is correct, that generally fixes it. There is more granular control over that in the IK beta if you want to join that (works with live).
For the hovering, that is because anime avatars (which is what I assume you are using, although the same logic applies to all avatars) tend to have very long legs in proportion to their arms and torso. This creates a problem where the head and arms have to be scaled correct, which means your legs (which are shorter in comparison to the avatar's) have to be above the ground. This is why when you sit, the ground feels far away.
Okay, to fix that you have to go into blender and scale the avatars legs down to human proportions. That is the only way to fix it.

As for the "buried in the floor" thing, it happens with every short avatar that I have tried using. I would have expected the world to look bigger if I am in a shorter avatar, but instead everything looks exactly the same size, and part of me is in the ground. Like any time an avatar is any shorter than I am, that height difference is made up by sticking that amount of me in the ground. So like if I used an avatar half my height, the avatar's feet would be on the floor, but it would look like the floor is up to my real life hips

okay so, on the vrc avatar descriptor, there is a option called "view"
On your avatar is a small white ball. This is where vrchat assigns your "view" in game. You have to edit it and move it to around the eye position on your avatar. This tells vrchat that your eyes need to be right there.

Okie so I booted up VRchat to double check some things, and the avatar I made is actually perfectly proportional with my body, in terms of leg length. The view ball thingy is perfectly between my eyes so there shouldn't be an issue there

Because unless they are like, an inch tall or something, vrchat should scale you down and up depending on where the avatar's view is located. Is this only small avatrs or does it also break on large avatars. Might try verifying files in steam (if you play through it)
Alright after some testing I have realized I am an absolute doofus. I think the main two short avatars I have that I was basing this off of were poorly set up somehow, since I was sunken halfway through the floor
So I decided to go to a world with rulers in it
And sure enough my view was scaling with the world, and I didn't notice because it looked so natural lmao

HOWEVER, with my avatar i'm still having the issue that I can't touch the floor, so I'm not sure what the issue is there

So it is actually working perfectly, though I had to set my "actual height" in the settings to a couple inches taller than I actually am so that my feet would touch the floor. I wonder if that's why I cant touch the floor with my hands

I explained the reason you can't touch the floor with your hands, although I was explaining about the feet not touching the floor (cause I realize now that fullbody issues).
If you are hovering slightly above or below the floor, I think that has to do with where the lowest bone in your armature is positioned, although I could be wrong as I haven't cared enough to fix it for my avi yet. If you don't know about it, you can get ovr advanced settings and use the space drag to drag up and down in your playspace, which would allow you to manually correct the hovering; however it is steamvr only.

more of a Unity related question, really.. if I have a Particle system, how do I trigger only one single burst of particles using an animation? Need to be replayable (do 1 burst every time the animation is played)
I found many solutions, but they all involve using a C# script
nvm... more-or-less got it.
Had to make it very short-living, with a disabled "Emitter" module and a sub-emitter "on-birth" with my desired effect
and the animation toggles the "Emitter" module on, and then transitions into a default state with the "Emitter" off.
Make a sub emitor and then drag the sub emitor out from under the parent emitor; have the parent emitor emit only one particle; not loop, and play on awake
This way you instantly get a burst every time you toggle the parent emitter, and toggling off the parent emitter does not get rid of the particles for the sub emitter

Following along with those three videos and uploading something, will be really good before trying to fight with a custom avatar.
There are a lot of things not addressed in those videos that are more advanced stuff, like animations, controllers, props, menus, etc.. but its hard to talk about those if you dont have the core ideas of uploading an avatar before hand.

Thats fair, a lot of avatars will have problems on import. A lot of times it will be Dynamic Bones scripts missing, Shaders missing, or Additional asset dependencies missing.
These are, most of the time, not too hard to get back to a working state.

I'm uploaded over 280 avatars mostly from just pure repetition and teaching myself
so I don't actually know a lot of tiny details
that could be taught from someone else
but could you compress it and still have it look good?

for the textures it's a massive difference
Not gonna bother trying to change your mind, its not and i have alot of avatars with 2-4k textures , they are all under 10mb

I added a wireframe shader to my avatar to view the world geometry. Biggest mistake of my life. People literally have so many polygons that they don’t need. People you don’t need a new polygon every 0.01m. Smooth shading will take care of that

I'd really like to make my own custom model. I'm willing to take some real time to learn, and I think I have some transferrable skills already. I made my own Live2D model in Live2D Cubism Editor 4.0.
My question is, from a beginners prospective, is it better to try to start in Blender or Unity? Which would be harder to learn, or which skill do you think would be more useful to have long-term? Is there a third platform you'd suggest outside of Blender or Unity? Thanks in advance

Hi, sorry to ask here rather than the help channel, just hoping someone that knows might see it, I'm having a bit of trouble getting the default crouch animation working for my avatar. It looks good in the preview in unity, but the legs turn into a pretzel in game. This happens for all crouch animations, but not for any others including low crawl as far as I can tell.
I have a base model you can get for free, it includes a ready-to-upload unity package, too.

Hi, I'm having a small issue with the Shader Fallback on the Standard Shader of Unity. I've been trying my best to fix it but, for some reason, when Shaders are disabled, my avatar just turns full on Mettalic and smooth ignoring my mettalic/Smoothness Texture.
Did anyone ever found how to fix it ?
Yeah i know all about that, but I'm using an internal Shader, so i cannot modify it, at all. and it should technically be supported by default, and looking at the doc, it looks like it should. but through multiple tests, it doesn't look like the default unity shader works well with the VRChat Shader Fallback system.
And I was wonderning if there is any texture magic that could prevent this weird fallback glitch to happen.

And the Fallback system takes the value from the sliders, ignoring the PBR textures all together
If an internal shader is matched, the fallback is a new shader of the same type, but using the internally compiled shader. All the parameters are copied. New versions or variants not included will not work, since they will be replaced.

Easily, just set up rotation constraints on the robot arm to copy the rotation of your hand

🤔 it's possible, would recommend trying out a combination of either rotation, position, or parent constraints, and seeing what works best

its hidden in live SDK due to a bug, switch to Debug inspector to see it
open beta SDK fixes it, but its best not to use a beta sdk on live

i have animated shader effects that swap between different variants of a given outfit. I'm thinking more about the transition between a shirt and a hoodie. Maybe a particle effect?

think of the trust system like an "XP" system. adding friends, visiting worlds, and playtime earn you a specific amount of trust. other things like getting muted, blocked or kicked will deduct trust

you can have animations that make it look like you're laying down, but your body will move with your head

Aight I dunno how to describe this without pictures but I’m not at my pc rn so I’ll describe it as amazingly as I can. My models left hand and only the left hand doesn’t like it when I move it, and it like stretches where the hand was originally and there’s no bone where the stretch is going to

Medium can't be hidden unless they hide it manually. Poor and Very Poor can be performance filtered however

no, you can upload your own as long as they have a performance rating of Good or Excellent
How do I make quest Rusk my fallback avatar? When I click it it keeps making it main avatar
An avatar has to be uploaded as a fallback avatar. There is a checkbox on upload to set it with the fallback flag. You also need to upload to that same ID a PC avatar that fits the Excellent or Good rank on PC
when you upload it, you need to check the "Use for fallback" box
is anyone else having problems with phys bones bugging out? I currently am trying to implement pullable cheeks onto my character and so far ive got it all down and working! the only problem im having is that my right cheek is sorta glitching out. Every time I pull it, it seems to fling about as if a collider is messing it up, the thing is I have no colliders inside my head or anything! the extra weird part about this is that sometimes it will act completely fine as if theres no problem at all but most of the time its just glitching. Im beginning to think this may be a bug or something?
