You would just use one toggle with the logic in the controller like normal, true being one animation, false being the other, set up your conditions according to how you want the toggle to work in the action menu
You could have 2 toggles but that is a little silly, to me
I kinda want it to be silly because I want to be able to have one for Male and one for Female so the user knows what they're looking at
A single toggle that just says Gender and forces the user to infer false = female, true = male, is kinda a bad UX to me

If you really want 2 toggles then you would need to use 2 parameters, then use parameter drivers

It's for my world specifically, we use Nestorboy's avatar-based save system and you have to give it an avatar ID to fall back to when it's done saving since you can't read the player's current avatar ID with udon
So this is a customizable avatar for people to fallback into so they start out looking like an RPG character if it turns out they don't have anything better

Hello, so I tried my newest avatar (middle) in VRC and compared to blender (right) its head looks small. That's not the case with my older avatar (left), even though it has the same body proportions and armature. Does it look small to anyone else? Could it be just because of the hairstyle not being spiky anymore? Also since its clothes are no longer form-fitting now its torso looks huge, but it doesn't have the first avatar's problem of its shoulders being twice as wide as its waist. It doesn't look that bad in blender though, could it be just bad rigging on my part?

Not sure, the only thing I know to do would be to set up a second UV and set it as the audiolink UV with Poiyomi or maybe Silents shaders? There are more than 1 avatar shader that supports it. Can't help with setting it up on an avatar, I tried and gave up for the moment

like I said, you can set it up with poiyomi and maybe one of silent's shaders
you can use the official audiolink package to test in Unity while setting it up, they have basic instructions
Im just using a random audiolink shader, i just want some reactions on the material tbh
as far as I know it is based on UV, in a square grid pattern, so if your UV is set up using the top parts you won't see much, which is the problem I had when I was trying to set it up on an avatar, and why I said use a second UV for audiolink glow

they will probably have limits on trigger distances, would be crazy not to, sounds will probably be covered by the current sound safety block, so that isn't that much of an issue

Exact specifics on how to rank up aren't revealed, as this would allow users to easily "game" the system. As a side note: Buying VRChat Plus instantly ranks you up from Visitor to New User, unlocking content uploading.

If you did, it could be that on top of breaking the connection to any changes to the model file with something like blender, it also causes issues with the rig. If this was not it, can you move to #avatar-help and ask there for help, this isn't the channel for that

I mean, mipmapping is enabled by default (autogenerated) by Unity. Do you want to create your own custom mipmaps instead?

I remember reading once that there was a method of injecting your own mipmaps, but it wasn't straightforward from what I remember. I'd be at the same stage of googling on that, honestly.

So yeah, it looks like you can use PVRTexTool to generate a mipmap chain and save it as a .DDS, then alter the layers in a separate image editor before exporting to Unity.
I should reiterate though, Unity does a fine job of calculating them for most avatars, and I wouldn't expect you to need to customize them unless you have a specific problem like jarring color bleed from a very tightly packed texture.
how does the fallback avatars work? it says to upload to both platforms but not sure what else to do? or if it is even possible. I optimized one avatar for PC and it tells me I can use it as a fallback but the avatar is verypoor for quest. does that mean I can't use it?
yes the quest version of the Avatar needs to be It must have a Performance Rank of Good or Excellent per the Android/Quest requirements.
as the point of the fallback avatars is to be a more performant Avatar to show when you're wearing something too heavy

You upload the Quest version first, following the performance guidelines, then upload a PC version to the same ID that follows the PC fallback guidelines, to the same ID, making sure that when you do go to that the box for fallback is still checked.
I don't think I can make this avatar work on quest.
by a chance do you know what needs to be met so it would show green for quest?

Like Rainwolf said, you need to be within Excellent or Good for both platforms, so look at those specifically

and question do you have any toggleable objects on your avatar as if the answer is yes kill them on quests version as even when they're disabled they count towards the triangle and mesh total

the tool maintains the blend shapes and the UV unwrap and yes they still have lipsync and eye/eye lid movement quest
if you decimate the model be wary, you might not have any geometry to bend joints on then
if u retopo it then you can properly allocate the limited geometry you are able to have for quest (20k tris)
I'm trying to make a fallback avatar and not sure if I can decimate any more. I am currently deleting any not necessary polygons and see if I can reach number I could possibly decimate reasonably to reach the 10k limit and not destroy blendshapes, uvs and not to repaint the whole model.
I'm currently at 50k. not sure if I can make it. wonder if there is way to simplify the hair somewhat. like it would help me if I could delete all that you can't see. but not sure how to either select that or reasonable cut through it.

the thing is if you decimated it you wont have quad topology, if it even had it in the first place
basically dissolving edge loops is selecting a loop, and dissolving the edges
hair and limbs of the body are perfect for that

For me, having DBs at all immediately knocks an avatar from Good or Excellent down to Medium or even Poor.

Quest Worlds are allowed to have any shaders but some just straight up break on quest
well because if it were avatars then everyone would be uploading with shaders that arent very performant
it would be worse performance impact to let people only use all shaders on worlds than avatars

Layman's explanation: When you put your avatar into Unity it will just be gray and you will need to tell Unity what to do with materials and or shaders. This means that you basically gotta do it twice once in Blender and once in Unity.
or just do it once in unity. although I guess it can be difficult to work with an only white model in blender

I'll drop this here. The possibilties are great, but the thought of it gaining traction is minimal.
Potentially, the fingers themselves could be 8 floats as the finger bones all curl at the same rate on Index and the thumbs would potentially be an int each given the way thumbs currently function.
I mean, we technically already have 2 of the 8, given gestureweight floats, so potentially 6 additional floats and 2 additional ints for public access.
Or they can just make GestureWeight also react to finger curled amounts
So all gestures will have ranges for the weight
I mean.. Gestures don't depend on each individual finger currently.
The depend on a combination of multiple fingers in specific poses.
So weighting it that way would be impossible for a lot of the current gestures.
They'd have to have the public floats for each individual finger curling before weight could work that way anyway.
It's a bit easier when you can see the textures because you have more of an idea of what and where everything is.

also if you want to be more ram optimized, use bools if its only ever gunna be 0-1

In short I commished someone to make a shell of a controller for me, because I’m busy af with my job irl and then I didn’t realize the project I was in didn’t have the proper Sdk and I went and did over half of the controller until I was like “SHIT THE PARAMETERS are at 16 limit”
and I don’t want to spend SO much time redoing it
I need the sdk3 from 2018 without the parameter limit to check and see if the rest of parameters are there/could be added

VRChat hasnt stopped supporting boolean parameters so something is fcked on your side

for avatar 3d modeling is it easier to do it by sculpting or shaping the vertices? Im unsure which method to try out first its gonna be my first time. I know most of the basics of blender
Sculpting has extra steps since you’ll need to also to topologize the model once you’re done sculpting it. Raw sculpts have billions of triangles.
Use whatever method you find easiest, personally I like hand-made wireframes more than sculpts
But depending on the detail you want, sculpting can be better for photorealism. You also get normal maps for free for all your smaller details

I'm having a really hard time with world constraints.. I've watched 3 tutorials now and none of them work for me. My object that gets enabled is either A. Attached to me and moves with me or B. Spawned wherever x0 y0 z0 is in the current world.
I need it to spawn where I am and not be attached to me. I've tried positions/rotation constraints and world constraints and a combination of the two....

doesn't work, I followed the instruction... the position of the object spawns at 0x 0y 0z when the constraint is disabled.. same as any other method of constraint I use.
this can be many things rly it is hard to say disappear in which way is rather the point, u stating u using poiyomi but by the sound of it, it sounds rather as if as from some angles they might not be able to see ur shoes / ur shoes becomes transparent or partially invisible, this is usually caused by using cut-out / fade or / and transparent on the shader / material.
World objects , disable the constraint component, be sure you have reset target on root of avatar , got multiple av's with this

That's how it works. You enable the constraint and then disable it again to set the position
it sets the position to 0x 0y 0z, not where my avatar is or some spot nearbye.. whats the point of enabling something that pops up in some far off place inside a world where nobody can see it?

I solved the issue. Had to make a simple animation controller for the container to switch off when spawned along with the animation that spawns the object itself. I'm dumb
thats a bounding box issue! you'll have to click the mesh for your shoes in unity, then in the inspector tab theres an option for "bounding box", you can hit the edit button and then scale that box like a good 30-50% larger, that way it loads in a slightly larger area so it doesnt disappear for people

so a thing i discovered recently is that if u have the bigger menu ingame open while in prone or w/e it disables ur locomotion in the anim that u are in ( whatever anim prone ), while as if u use a complicated 329042390 locomotion setup like wetcat, it is usually bound to default anims ? atleast it was to me tho my locomotion disabling wont work at all for some reason even i set parameters and locomotion layers and what not.. so my idea / though was, is it possible to make a toggle that acts as if i keep up the big menu ingame open but without actually opening it ?. cus that to me would fix / solve all my disable locomotion issues and i wouldnt even be dependant on using a locomotion layer at all.
was just a though i came across recently since again disable loco wont work for me and i figured this temp solution, tho it can be bothering having half the screen being the big menu

quest are very limited on shaders, the best solution for 'glow' for quest i assume would be using emissions on any of the supported shaders.
would i use that with standard lit
standard lit, mapcat lit, toon lit, any of these is supported, u can try each of them and see what results the best

A quick question. I want to add a prop to my avatar that has its own rig (ie. dynamic bones, but otherwise no anims). Can I import the second rig and have it parented like any other prop to my avatar, or do the bones need to be part of the original avatar's rig?

Yeah a material is basically a container for the texture and shader assets, as well as any shader-specific property settings. You could have two materials with the same shader and textures applied, but if the properties are different they will be distinct from each other. People may use the terms "applying a texture/material" interchangeably, but they are not the same. You apply a texture to a material's shader, and the material to the model. A texture is just an image, and has no way to recognize mapping regions on its own - even for a flat, unlit application.
so the material is to group all the textures, shaders, and settings for both of those together, and apply them all to an object at once
Basically, yeah - well an assigned region on the object to be specific. But that's the idea.

You’ll need to upload it through unity so a computer is needed at the very least. Doesn’t need to be a high end one you just need to be able to run unity with a model without crashing.

Booth models come with armatures which should have perfect weights, but using the "automatic weights" option in blender messes up the weight painting a bit. How do I transfer the weights correctly? I don't really want to "weightpaint" using Unity anymore, but I can't figure out the correct way to copy the weight in Blender

well you wouldn't need the old vertex groups anymore if you're transferring the new ones on like they might even have different skeleton names so having both would be a bit silly and of course make sure you save before you try any of this kind of stuff
The clothes only have some of the vertex groups, so if I delete all the ones on the avatar, more than half will disappear

Oh, right. After the transfer, how would I move the clothes from the old armature and parent them to the new armature? I will be given some options, and last time I tried all of them rotated my clothes and upped the size by about 100 times
The new clothes is still under Armature.001 (which comes together with the booth outfit) and not the main avatar armature (simply called "Armature"), and I can't change the parent without the mesh warping into a giant horizonal version of itself

I think this is that you need to apply transforms first for the clothing. That should prevent that

You must obtain at least "New User" Trust Rank in our Trust and Safety system in order to upload content. You can get this by just spending a few hours in VRChat, hop some worlds, and make some friends. Give it some time and you'll be able to upload content in no time.
As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

Explore the Avatar Worlds tab in the Worlds section of the menu. You can search for game characters or movie/anime characters and usually, if it's had a model made of it, it's in a world.

Fortunately unlike buying just a model, avatars are usually ready to upload immediately. No assembly required. Plus you can find some well made avatars for relatively cheap despite what some people in the community want you to believe.
But, as with anything even slightly profitable, there are individuals that will sell things they don't have the right to. Unfortunately they're out there however there are a lot of very talented people pushing content in the community so I'm sure you'll find something you like.

For the handslayer parameters, The Weights are floats while the other two are Integers right?
Does anyone know what causes that strange sort of dissolving artifact on avatar meshes when viewed at an angle near the peripheral, fixed-foveated region of one's view? It's almost like a dithering of the mesh's visibility, if that makes sense.
Is that something that you can control/reduce as an avatar creator, or is it just a fact of life? I think I've only noticed it on the quest, so it may just be a platform-specific issue, not sure.
Hard to put into words, but it basically gives everything behind the most forward facing mesh area a sort of x-ray effect, making eyes disappear/pop-out, mouth interiors bleed through the face, etc.

Is there a way to switch the base mesh of an avatar with a toggle? what I want to do is use a toggle to change the character to a different version of him that's taller, and has a different build (sorry if I'm using the wrong terms for all of this, I'm still a little new to avatar creation and unity)
you can’t really change view position with a toggle properly, the world scale is not changed and all it does is move the camera
if the 2 variations of the avatar had the same scale it would be possible, but there’s still the issue that they’d have to share the same skeleton for the humanoid setup to work properly
it’s probably not worth the hassle when you can just upload the second variant separately

The Body of my Avatar is split into different meshes. When i get near a lightprobe the meshes do not react at the same time
Like: Arms and legs are a different mesh as the inner Body part. When i get near a blue lightproble the arm/leg mesh gets blue way before the inner body part does.
Any way to fix that beside of joining the meshes?
Set the anchor override in the skinned mesh renderers of all your meshes to the same object, usually the spine

Scaling avatars work even in fbt (have one) , but viewpoint will not change so its pointless (made an av that has a smaller version of me i can drop anywhere and scale it to any size then change viewpoint to it, its nausiating to say the least and wont really move - pointless) 🐇

Yeah, but at that point you need to use SteamVR scaling functionality, but even then it can be a bit weird.
scaling avatar is just a float doesnt matter if its quest/oculus/steamvr
just resize hips - tiny / large av , viewpoint uh yeh thats not going anywhere 🐇

hey avatar people, i'm using a quest 2 through pc air link and can only see peoples fallback avatars. I assumed since the pc is doing the running that it would show pc avatars as well
is that normal?
A lot of people in public like to use Poor and Very poor ranked avatars, so unless you change your max allowed performance, it could be that. You might also be seeing fallbacks because your max download size is too low. You should check both. I believe None or 0 for download size actually means never download an avatar, which disables fallbacks too possibly
ii have it set to be able to see poor avatars and i have the slider set for 300mb. is that just not enough?

300 is way over what you should normally need, mine is set to 60mb just because more than that is a silly size. I keep lights and particles off for everyone to help prevent some crashing from crash avatars, you can't prevent all random lobby crashers unless you disable all avatars and only show anyone manually, but you shouldn't need to worry a general crash unless you have a terrible computer, which then Air Link wouldn't work well anyways.
You really shouldn't be seeing everyone as a fallback with your rank set to Poor

I think there is a PC version on the Oculus store, so either that, or using Steam VR and the Steam release

y’know I do find it kinda sad that quest avatars can’t have hair/clothing physics, that was one of the things I was hoping for if I ever got an avatar of my OC
it's helpful to remember the quest is basically a cell phone processing power wise

Dynamic bones will never be coming to the quest but vrchat is currently working on more optimized versions called physics bones and that's in the maybe pile for the quest

I use a quest u just start steamvr after enabling link and you can start steamvr games afterwards, very simple
Yeah the issue is that in steamvr for whatever reason I can only see fallback avatars. Set to being able to see very poor 200mb, but still only fallbacks show up. Haven’t figured it out yet

why would you give your pc avatar a mesh collider?

not to see the animation. you simply find the default animation clip in your assets folder. I assume you're looking for the standing animation so that should be called proxy_standing_still or something like that

I am trying to change the materials for a .gbl file to make it quest compatible, but when i click the avatar, then materials, everything is greyed out and it wont let me change it.
It is a Ready Player Me avatar btw.

This is usually preceded by other errors, that are actually important unlike this one.
i havent tried that yet, but i found a few more errors involving missing files, so i'm trying to troubleshoot those right now

As @karmic totem said - it's most likely a prior error failing the build, and then that error happens because there was no build output.

also, you can delete the poiyomi shaders folder and then import again from the current release of the shaders

Commissions aren't quite handled through VRChat usually, people do them externally through places like discord, forums, and marketplaces.
In #community-servers-old there's VRCTraders, from what I know they have a strict policy of needing proof that creators / artists can actually do the work they say they can (to avoid scams as much as possible). #community-servers-old message

Is there an official working skeleton for FBT? I tried the skeleton fbx mentioned in the documentation, but it is only included in the 2.0 SDK and it is still rather janky.

I've had great success using that skeleton with very minor adjustments, too bad it doesn't seem to be working for you. But other than that one the only other I can think of is the example avatar VRchat provides in their avatar tutorial series.

You could just have the tpose-new armature in front of the of your original one and manually adjust each bone so they are approximately the same

I have everything done on my avatar, but for some reason the VRCSDK is the bones and rigging error. "Humanoid avatar must have the head, hands, and feet bones mapped"
Then the Feet arent specified and the upper arms arent either
but when I go to the bones thing, everything is green and it looks fine

Be very careful of listings with a ton of credits in them. They're usally kitbashed and can get you banned.
