@lament inlet my only suggestion is to make sure you're surely sure that your headset will gain more charge than it loses while it's plugged in. Probably try sleeping in a world you've already spent a lot of time in while plugged in, cuz some worlds might have a heavier drain on the device and you might wake up with just a dead HMD

A friend of mine mentioned that he had a link cable that just didn't run well enough compared to others, so it used more power than it gained even while plugged into it

Try restarting your router? using a VPN could help if it's a bad endpoint/bad routing issue, and changing DNS servers could help if your current one is resolving hostnames slowly/incorrectly
Proton has a free version with a speed cap, and Windscribe/TunnelBear both have free options with data caps. As for changing your DNS server: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using#windows this site lists Google's DNS server but there's lots of others, like CloudFlare's, Quad9, OpenDNS and etc

@covert chasm Apologies for the mention, but is there no longer quality settings equivalent to DesktopLow? I know of a number of people, including myself, who relied on that setting to make the game playable. Even just having it on Low now I only get 40 fps when I'm alone in my homeworld when before the update I was getting a locked 60 fps in the same scenario using DesktopLow. It's almost unplayable when joining my friends now since it very easily hovers at 10 - 15 fps when I should be expecting around 30 - 35 fps.

They're virtually identical settings.

There's some small changes-- Soft Particles is on, upload buffer size is slightly different (not graphics related) but they are otherwise identical. I believe the bone weight changes got reverted so they're both at 4 bones instead of 2.

Nothing that'd account for a loss of 15-20 FPS.

Hey I just started playing vrchat and wondering why I can't see any characters? On pcvr and quest they are default Grey robot things, any way to fix this?

It could be the "Safe Mode"

Check the ingame safety settings? By default, some avatar features might be disabled by rank
also, are they error robots (grey robots with yellow stripes) or performance block robots? (grey robots with rainbow stripes)

Try to open your quickmenu, go to saftey, and there will be buttons named "Maximum" "Normal" "Custom" and "None". If its on custom you enabled safe mode on accident. To undo that click the "None" button and do that for every single profile at the bottom from visitor to friends

This is typically either an avatar rig issue or it could be the IK bugging out.

The public avatar I formerly used had the same issue.

it ended up fixing itself, for some reason they would only work when i was in vr, then when i got out of it only certain ones would work; but eventually they all started working again

i do full body tracking, and i've confirmed that the trackers are not the issue, but the visibility of the base stations

You want you're playspace to be a close to an empty box as possible

Also tracking is considerably cpu heavy and cpu effects tracking quality*

3. The dongles are wired, and the only thing would be amazon alexa, which shouldn't be any issue.

The Alexa could cause tracking problems. My Bluetooth headset was left on and all my tracking was acting crazy af. I was constantly losing tracking till I realized I left it on
