Hey dudes, what's the best way to record VRChat if you're on Oculus (specifically Rift S)? I was trying to record my session, so I used OBS and had it record the Oculus Mirror. While it recorded the audio just fine, for some reason the footage was blank.

Is there another program or method I should be using?

nah OBS is fine. Make sure you use the right capture method

You can use the Virtual Desktop function in the Dash to check OBS while in VR and see if the recording is set up right.

For VRChat specifically it if however the best way to just capture the VRChat window.

That way you can also use the stream camera to get some special views if you want to.

I don't stream VRChat, but I have streamed other VR games, and I always had to record from the Oculus Mirror

With it the view in the window get's replaced with what the camera see's

so you can other shots then just your own view.

Global dynamic bones are an insane resource hog and not having those could even result in you not even needing those mirrors 👀

Dynamic bones for close friends only isn't such a toll to performance, but it can be, that I agree with, and of course I can live with such features, my question is why a 3rd party client has such but the official client does not.

A free and not malicious 3rd party client, noone the less.

Add in every collider making dynamic bones perform around 1.6x as worse and you got a nice snowball going

It's basically motivating people to do so, and that's the last thing you want.

That "Unusual Client Behavior" issue tends to be related to connection stability/packet loss issues - try restarting your router and disabling your VPN/changing the connected location if you're using one

Try this:

If you are using Oculus Link this has been a common issue, as well as an issue with Rift as well. I was talking to some people at a VRC party last night and apparently the Rifts (and Quest in Rift mode) are drawing more power than they should and it can cause the audio to cut out.

To be sure this is happening though:
1.) Click the volume icon in the taskbar.
2.) Next to the name of the current sound device should be an upward chevron ( ︿ ). Click it.
3.) Select the Oculus Quest from the list that appears.

If the Oculus Quest is not in the list:
1.) Right click the volume icon in the taskbar.
2.) Click "Open Sound settings"
3.) Maximize the window.
4.) Select "Manage Sound Devices" from the right side of the window.
5.) In the list of playback devices find the Oculus or Oculus Quest sound device.
6A.) If it is greyed out, right-click it and select enable.
6B.) Right-click it and select "Set as Default Device."
7.) Select the "Recording" tab.
8.) Repeat steps 6A & 6B from this list.

The "audio dropdown" it is referring to is your system settings audio, but this looks different depending on the version of Windows 10 you use. (See the first set of steps for current versions.)

Playing through Steam. Every other application detects my microphone, but not VR chat.

I pressed Esc and clicked Settings. It has my correct microphone listed and the volume is at 100%

It also has my second microphone (the one on my webcam). That one works fine. But not the other one.

I'm using a Presonus audio interface, if that matters.

As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

I haven't read the book either. One thing I do know is that the omnidirectional treadmill they used in the movie actually worked for VR and the creators of the treadmill have been working on improving the project. I'm not sure if they're selling it yet but it seemed cool at the time

SDK3 would definitely be able to orbit a camera like that (esp. with puppet menus) but I don't think you'd need a shader to do the camera thing? Having an enabled camera in your hierarchy should (assuming it does work this way) automatically work, no shader trickery needed

You could have a parameter that toggles the camera, then a 2-axis control that rotates the camera (or more likely, a blank gameobject that the camera is parented to, which the camera is offset from)

@onyx cape It still might be related - if restarting your router didn't help/isn't an option, I'd recommend turning off your VPN/changing it's connection location if you're using one

Also if you're using NordVPN specifically, turn off CyberSec as that reportedly causes issues

@vocal shard @noble depot you cannot use quest hand tracking with the quest version of vrchat, but if you use either virtual desktop or ALVR, which both support hand tracking, you can play the PCVR version of the game using a powerful enough PC, and play with emulated controllers

ALVR is more interesting because it can emulate index controllers, giving you individual finger tracking like with the knuckles
