Most likely you'd have to have started playing since about VRchat started tracking the trust score and have a popular world on your account, which I presume is a significant boost. I have a friend who started playing before me and my account was created in 2016, and he didn't reach veteran but I did. The only difference between our accounts is I had a fairly popular world.

The difference is substantial. It's not just the lower resolution, but the original rift and vive are using pentile displays which also cut down the number of subpixels by a third

It's the display itself. So while the original rift and vive are rendering higher than the display resolution (to help correct distortion and stuff), the screen itself has the blue and red subpixels alternating rather than having an even number of subpixels like the rift s or other lcd panels

I don’t recommend buying an OG Vive in 2021, it is very low resolution. Almost the lowest that can play VRC. Very hard to read text.

It’s a 5 year old headset

If you are looking for a headset that gives better visuals than OG Vive, the answer is “literally anything”

Vr isn't the same as staring at a screen, which I do think can stress your vision.

With a normal screen, your eyes are focused at a set plane and converging constantly at the device right in front of you

In vr, the lenses focus the screens so your eyes are focusing far away, the same as real life. Also since the image is stareo, your eyes can naturally move around to see everything in 3D rather than the fixed point like a screen.

I never really feel any eye strain or problems in vr. Especially compared to a normal monitor

Now it is true that certain older headsets could have problems with children who are still growing. Some headsets like PSVR have smooth lenses that can cause barrel distortion and pupil swim. This isn't an issue if you're an adult, but for a child it could slow some things. (it's the same effect as when you get new glasses and the world moves around when you look around the lenses.)

But most new headsets use fernel lenses that circumvent this

The Vives use fresnel lenses and do suffer from some degree of pupil swim, it's just fairly mild, and also depends on the person & fit of the HMD.
Likely the main two ways VR can affect developing eyes and brains is the accomodation-vergance problem, which is that while in the VR HMD the image is focused at a distance comfortable for the eyes to focus on, it is possible for a virtual image to appear closer, thus causing the eyes to naturally converge and attempt to focus 'closer', which with the static focal plane in VR is impossible. This can cause eye strain due to the confusion.
The other is how the brain understands stereo imagery and processes it into meaningful data.

its because you play on the standalone version. Most avatars are not Quest Supported due to the requirements

Thanks - yes that's exactly my plan since I a) don't want the performance to be affected by performance glitches in VRChat and b) so that guests not in the VR world can still consume the stream outside i.e. in Twitch.

sounds like a good plan, not too familiar with world creation, but you can find stream player assets in many places. I think that the worlds SDK now includes a built in one, but don't quote me on that

there are different channels in this discord for working with the world or avatars SDK

btw, in this context, the SDK is not really code related, it's a unity package containing the essential for either making worlds or avatars

and the VRC SDK control panel, which will let you log in to your VRC account and upload content

its not about the processing power at all. It is because every PC avatar is compiled for windows, and the quest runs on an modified Android OS

i was under the impression it was because the quest was running on fixed hardware, and the limitations aren't present on pc because the user could be running any sort of hardware

I just got a Quest 2. I cant seem to get the lens in focus without tightening the straps so its super tight on my forehead and then it gives me a sinus headache. Its very hard to get it into focus. Anyone else experience this?

yes ive tried all three. Im kinda in the middle between 1 and 2 setting so I put it into 1.5

You'll want to shift it up and down on your face until you find a sweet spot

If you feel like pushing the headset closer to your face is making things better, then you may want to select a wider IPD.

Else as Flinchy said it should only be up and down adjustment via straps, not too much preassure.

Lens sweet spots are points in 3D space. IPD is only one axis. It’s very possible they are in front of his face and pushing headset forward is what’s needed. I know index’s closeness nob really helps sharpness

Yes and no.
A Correct IPD will not make a difference when beeing further in or out.
But a wrong IPD will mean it's offset and the further you move it in the worse the offset can impact your view.

And yeah, too close is definitely also possible.

There is so much about the placement that can cause blurry and uncomfortable vision
