Litterally all they needed to do to compete with Rift-S, was release basically a "Vive-S", with a cheaper higher res LCD screen, and pass those cost saving onto adding the audio strap as standard. Fix the simple design error on their trackpads, and continue selling it for the same $500 price. No higher.

id imagine, from what ive heard, that in terms of raw tracking quality (not including occlusion / blind spots) constellation is equal to or worse than insight
im still on constellation and one of its massive weaknesses is that you get punished hard for not having the USB bandwidth to run it. i cant plug in more than 3 sensors and even then when i use two i get better results from having one plugged into USB 2.0

So I’ve been on on vrchat for some time and did not know where to to write this I decided to write it here.
I have an oculus quest hooked up to link cable (amvr link cable to be exact) and am running on prebuilt pc that can not be upgraded much with ryzen 2700, 16gb ram, 4gb rx 580, 400 watt supply, 123gb m.2 nvme SDD, and 1tb HD’s.
Now that you know the specs let me tell you what happening. So when I go in using the link cable I can use any PC avatar but when someone clones my avatar the avatar they turn into is a robot and there no loading screen to show they are changing at the top. It’s just a robot, it seems like it wants to act like a half rift s and quest at the same time, avatars as the quest but worlds on the pc.
The second issue it seems to disconnect saying I have to renable the link then when I I get back in my avatar and menu is either way above me or below me so I have to exit the game then come back in for it to work.
I do have fast WiFi so there no issues there so what I might do is use different usb cable slot see if that fixes it but I like to know what going on and how to fix it. Thanks much appreciated.

@mental sky Sorry for massive quote block I’m on mobile. You have safety settings on. That’s why you can see your own avatar but not when others wear it. You can disable it in safety menu

I would pick the “none” present on the safety menu if you want to see everything
You may also need to go into performance options and set max rendered avatar to “Very Poor”
Keep in mind though that you’re basically telling it to render everything so if your computer isn’t the best you’re going to lag

@pastel dirge Steam is a 13+ platform and that’s the age rating for VRC as well. Coming to steam means following Steam’s rules and guidelines. I don’t know what the checkbox was planned or it’s reason for existing but the checkbox predated their Steam release.

@frozen remnant for reference my laptop has a gtx 1060 and i7 7700hq and i had to get an mDP -> DP port adapter for my index to plug into
but most of my usb ports are either 2.0 or 3.0 and my mDP port behaves perfectly fine and connects to GPU bc my laptop is set up like that
so u don't really need super expensive or fast hardware to be able to run vr, just something thats somewhat average and up to date will do assuming you have the USB hubs and/or ports to support it
i don't get 120 fps all the time but its not unplayably laggy

I place the view point with the eyes of the model, if your hand starts to clip near your view that's more to do with the world's near clip setting (which gets worse the smaller the avatar you use is)

As I understand it, unity's depth precision distribution is non-linear. Precision is biased towards the near clip, which in most cases is a good thing as you'll see more detail close up. The thing is the closer to 0 the near clip is the more pronounced the uneven precision distribution becomes, which in severe cases can manifest as z-fighting at greater distances.

VRC is made of multiple servers, which do different things.
API severs which handle who is in what instance, who's friends with who, what avatar who owns and is currently using, etc etc.
Sync servers which handle what is where in an instance and other stuff.
Content servers which host the actual world and avatar data itself.

The first two types (API & Sync) are USA based as far as I know, which can lead to high ping for users in some regions (for example, the average ping in european areas is around 160)
But the content servers are part of Amazon's system and I believe they do local content duplication.

@vocal shard It was the cache. I rerouted it with a symlink to my other harddrive which I recently wiped. Symlink broke and VRC was not able to write to the cache anymore.

It will always face the right direction and be perfectly adjusted to your view position (which is vital)
