The reason for the pedestal changes was for optimization. No need to load a full model for every pedestal in a world when you can just load an image.

"Avatar worlds" are places you can temporarily use avatars that others have made, you'll have to return to this avatar world if you ever change avatar or close the game however.
I suspect the convenience of these worlds is why there's no "avatar website" and such yet, as Unity and the SDK would still be needed.
Some steps I suspect a lot of people don't want to bother with.

cause you cant really do anything to immitate collision so the tracking would be wierd
