Quick question would you guys say this is a good deal? The user asked for 700+ shipping for a vive pro 1 that includes 3 trackers (2.0, 2 ankle , 1 waist) , index controllers, 2 base stations (1.0) that come with tripods, and all the cords and dongles that come with! It's in great condition. Mind you I currently use a quest 2 pcvr with no trackers or anything whatsoever. Are there ups and downs with this vive?

That's many hundreds over what I would pay for that. Hell that's more than what it was new (without trackers)

The only value is the trackers realistically, and even then, not much. The headset is worse than a Quest 2, worse resolution, worse refresh rate, and it's like 300 grams heavier than your quest... Plus you get the worst controllers for vrchat, the vive wands.

When I sold my vive kit I sold the entire thing with trackers for 200 bucks. And that was like 4 years ago.

The 1.0 base stations are also really fragile now. They're a high failure rate item now, especially when shipped. The glue holding the optic onto the laser goes bad with age and most are a light bump away from detaching so you have to open them and repair it very carefully, so I personally wouldn't ship these, only buy them local if cheap enough, and you can test them and make sure there's no rattling from the lens detaching inside.

In short. No, its a pretty bad deal and not worth it.

For that money you can absolutely get a Q3, Q3 Pro, full index setup, etc.

Or save your 700 bucks and put it towards a Steam Frame when it comes out, this would be the best option imo, you'd have to save more bucks up, but you're already a good chunk of the way there and would get something that would last, rather than something used and not under warranty.

As someone who's owned these headsets, I would feel utterly scammed if I spent 700 bucks on a fkn vive pro 1 in 2026. The headset is pretty much E-Waste. I would only get it now to complete a collection, not to actually use it. 1.0s are likely to break in shipping, so I wouldn't spend over a hundo on that.

1-200 is max price for that kit imo assuming it's near mint and US prices.

For 3-500 you're frequently seeing nice used Q3 and Q Pros so it wouldn't make sense for the price to be around that considering how much worse the vive pro 1 is to modern headsets.

If you want trackers, find a used tracker and station kit and use it with your quest. You'll save hundreds and be able to at least get 2.0s which aren't as fragile.

You can sometimes find full vive kits for a fair price tho, and buy it just for the stations and trackers, but it would need to be a fair price. You can also buy a kit for just the stations and then buy trackers for it.

Lots of ways to piece these together. Just gotta make sure what you get works with each other.

Then take the rest of the money you saved, and get a Q3 or Q pro or wait for the frame and you'd be much happier and likely spend less money (except the frame duh lol)

If an index kit, you can still use it, quest is sharper but index is still usable. You can use the controllers with your quest for pcvr. Stations are 2.0 not 1.0.

400-600 depending on if it has trackers is average prices for these kits. Without trackers, full Index kits are often selling for around 4/500 in my area.

Vive kit, 1.0 stations, should be under 100 bucks ideally, only usable parts are the lighthouses. Headset and controllers are not worth using anymore. Shake lighthouses lightly to make sure lens cover isn't loose inside.

Or if ya just want tracking, the vive ultimate trackers can be had used for around 250 bucks and don't need lighthouses. They're less accurate, but simpler to use and don't need anything else, you can likely buy a Q3 and some used ultimate trackers for the same or less than what your friend offered you for an 8 year old headset lol

Welp after a few months of debugging to try and get VRC working it's finally working without freezing

Based on proton logs and the unfortunately fairly unhelpful vrchat logs here's my current assumption of what was going on:
The open file limit for Linux was set to 1024, PROTON_LOG=1 kept mentioning that the open file limit was to low for some games to run, fsync worked fine for ~10 mins and then vrc would freeze when multiple users in a world changed their avatar at the same time, esync simply wouldn't start due to the open file limit being to low, NTSync (added in kernal version 7) also required the open file limit it be increased to be able to start VRC, increased open file limit to 16384, played for 6+ hours without freezing, occasional studdering but that's to be expected running on a gaming laptop with a 3050ti 4GB laptop GPU.

So far I haven't tested it since last night and will probably test it again since some of the attempts with fsync were mostly okay minus some weird artifacting from I-frames getting lost in the stream.

Based on some searching around I did for other people with a similar freezing issue, game completely freezing/locking up, not producing new frames, and being forced to close it via steam or task manager, most results came up with graphical issues, no results provided any information about anything regarding open file limit or an issue with fsync or esync (there wouldn't be any info on/with NTSync yet since it basically just released with kernal version 7.0.0), I did try disabling both fsync and esync at one point but that resulted in a freeze as well which I'm still unsure what caused this freeze but under the assumption that it was due to the open file limit as well

Tupper said they dont know how they would confirm it, but if there's an obvious underage voice on video or admittance, it should be the same as anything you report. it's just really weird to me how it's not a thing yet. just investigate, should be important enough.

I get the idea, but having to switch instances every time a friend says “check this out” for something avatar related feels a bit excessive

I still think that, as of today, they should add a button to disable or at least view selectively enabled avatars. Who hasn’t been in an instance, heard a sound, and thought “who the hell do I have enabled?” and then had to check one by one?

Overriding the default system is fine, don’t get me wrong, especially for casual users, but if I want to see someone, they should let me do it, it’s not going to affect anyone but me

Honestly that is the worst part of all, I can already see map communities doing the thing like "For stability reasons no one can have avatars enabled unless you are VIP"
I know my community of communities and they are not like the English or American ones, you cannot choose between public black cat instances or group ones, here you can only choose which group instance to be in, and if all of them do that then F for us

And the thing "make your own public instance" does not work either, because on popular maps if the group that created the map sees a public one, if the owner is there they will literally kick everyone out, and if not the moderators will show up and tell you to leave

This is my take on this i guess:
Using optimized avatars is something i prefer. Some don't care, but forget/don't know/don't care how much that impacts others as well.
The ability to limit performance on an instance scale is good for larger events, but also for something like group members being able to bypass the limit, while guests (none group members) have to abide by the performance. Be this a security precaution to avoid crashers, or to only allow people that don't have 9M tries on their avis into the group.
Obviously this can also be misused and it will create a two class system. VIP's that can bypass, and none VIP's.

If that happens, you can remove those abusive people from the instance, or even permanently ban them if you made it a group instance.

You alone can chose how you moderate your instance, not others that have no say

maybe this might even be a tos violation for map owners to interfere in your instance but idk

Honestly, it sounds more like privatizing avatars than genuine optimization intentions. The proof is not being able to personally activate someone, but then adding a tier in the group so you can have your own avatar

I repeat having “default overrides” is a great idea, especially for casual users who don’t even know how to open the safety menu

But not being able to activate people ruins everything, and on top of that, having a role that allows it makes it even worse

My language community is the third largest in the world and even then there are only like 5 maps (furries included) that use publics and on top of that some share owners. you cant open publics on those because they get taken down and if you open group instances they crash them and your name end up all over Twitter. its basically a mafia lmao. Also, if you performance gate the instance, there are only 3 ways to crash that i know of:

• quest emoji crash (only affects crashes)
• performance lvl excellent instant, but you know who it is as it is the last line in your log, which i dont see often at all
• udon client mod crash

This basically eliminates their power
