I currently have an oculus rift cv1 which I like but meta software is starting to uhh not work
I've been having to use steam VR to keep things stable anyways so thinking of switching away from oculus

The CV1 and the quests are essentially different devices because one is oculus and one had Facebook’s hands all over it

I started with the CV1, tried an HP Reverb G2 and loved the clarity upgrade, then upgraded to the index after getting tired of windows tracking and loved the new comfort levels but was sad to see the resolution dip.

I’ve only ever worn a quest 1, but it was the most comfortable, lightest headset I’ve ever used, and I really have no issues with the device overall.

This might be because vrc uses easy anti cheat now and running multiple games with anti cheat systems is like having multiple antiviruses- two bouncers see each other as a menace and beat each other up on your computer

I would not. A VR Headset spends many hours pressed to your face, and gets kinda gross. Also, the thumb sticks on the controller wear out.
New Quest 2's are on fire sale for $200 or less, you should look into those if you need an ultra budget option.
