To make a custom avatar you'd need to download unity hub, install unity version 2019.4.31f1, go to the vrchat site, download their avatar sdk, import that into your unity 3d project and then you can start adding things like your avatar, shaders and anything you want to put on your avatar

Instance notifications of people joining or leaving doesn’t work for me not in steam nor standalone quest. No matter how many times I toggle them off uninstall and reinstall. I tried getting support on the VRC site and no help. The feature only worked for me during open beta but once it was available for everyone it stopped working for me. Seems to be bugged to my account only, it isn’t a problem on my alt account.

I personally hate VRChat's blocking system, especially from a blocked person perspective.
If you decide you don't wanna see someone then fine they gone for you, but the issue is that the reverse is true too.
Which means neither side will be able to know presense of the other and that is extremely garbage in a social game.
As the one who did block the other this may be absolutely wanted, but the other way around definitely not.
Generally there is nothing worse then sitting withing a social group, having a conversation and there is basically 2 ghosts that always interrupt and ignore someone.
It sucks for the 2 direct persons but also everyone around.
It's great for fighting malicious stuff, but on a social part it absolutely sucks. 
At minimum the person who got blocked should still be able to see, or if you wanna argue on "protect against people stealing my stuff" at least have a note of presence of the other person. (By that i mean a replacement like a robot, but it won't really make a difference.)

Oh, you could still disallow the audio stream from being transmitted to the client, but a simple presence that they (not you) see really is a good compromise imo.
I definitely do not mean to pass it one way fully, you can still absolutely limit things, but at least some way of presence knowledge for the side.
By going for a mute kind of shadow robot replacement you also rule out any special stalking based on avatars and acting while at least being able to have knowledge of presence on the other side. Without really any big exploit potential.
If someone really goes harassing stalker style and it really is a issue to you, then that is something that goes far beyond personal blocking, that's a moderation issue one needs to raise and get the users punished for.
In the end VRChat is a social game, and within communities there will always be some individuals who will clash while still being part of and active participants of a group.
And this is where the current system is an absolute nightmare.
Similar to the ghost robot, one may have the option to see a smal notification icon if such a user you blocked is present in the instance, and the option to also enable such silouette. (But this has to remain optional as if you block malicious people who are for example just blocking views or something, you gotta be able to fully hide someone as the active blocking party)

What I've found is lowering my AMD update makes me less likely to crass as I'm on 22.5.1 or 22.8.1 works as had issue with the video player now don't crash at all and video players work but that might also be cause on index

well.. hmm.. well.. specifically. the "upload image" button is not working.
So maybe because it's disabled for me, I thought I had to change the picture elsewhere. But perhaps it's just the rest of the profile and the problem is just the button not being enabled.
I'll try a different browser or something.
Ok, firefox also doesn't let me click the upload image button.
Makes sense.. it's explicitly disabled class="fileInputButton disabled"
So either the feature is disabled temporarily or they need to remove the button instead and make clear instruction or fix where you're supposed to upload it instead.
Anyway, I found the feature is just broken because of the Canny SSO system or something.

All of the available methods just emulate controllers, why does the coolest feature have to be locked behind the worst version of the game :C
..I think it's theoretically possible to get this working if I use OpenXR toolkit but I'm still looking into it
It'll still be emulating a controller but in this case you'll be able to use regular link software, and OpenXR supports binding stuff to gestures

Meta doesn't send the hand tracking API over link, unfortunately
you can use Virtual Desktop or ALVR to emulate Index controllers, but that's obv different from the Quest's native hand tracking

Apparently enabling some "developer runtime" setting in the beta section of the pc oculus app (requires dev account) actually does send hand tracking data, which openxr toolkit can apparently read
as far as I can see there's no thumbstick emulation (yet) but everything else appears to function, I haven't done any real testing so I'm just going by the word of the website until I do
