Does this conversation have to happen everytime somebody duplicate posts? Its clear the mods don't care or are unable to effectively moderate, so this is a waste of everybody's time.
He didnt duplicate posts, he wrote his post is short form and didnt know there was a format..... Somebody then said that he needed to add the format which when he started to do so Victor told him to just stop typing because he already "posted a job post"
So if he's already being directed to how to use the system, why did Vic step in?
Even if there arent enough mods why do you think you have the right to tell someone off like that
idk, aqua started typing after he said he will correct his wording or whatever and he told him to stop
You came out of no where to comment
The rules have to be strict for the mods to actually do something everytime somebody does it, the rules are usually set in place to stop it from happening all the time.
I doubt he did so in the same manner you did.
2 wrongs dont make an right mate.
Especially with that language
Man, not sure how this got out of whack
hmmm
@plucky hatch You should check yourself. We don't tolerate that kind of attitude here.
Thank you ^
@kindred mason Please don't give out warnings. You're not a moderator.
Also, we don't have a "two week" rule regarding job posts.
This is basically what happened. @untold granite wrote about being more specifc and to use the correct guidelines. @plucky hatch was about to repost his whole job post again. After already doing it two days ago. All he needed to do was edit that one.
@tawny kayak I can give out whatever warning I want tbh, it had nothing to do with this server anyway
Did you read the following messages?
Killer keemstaaaaaaaaaaaaaar leeeeeetts.... jokin
As for the two-week rule, your <@&213101288538374145> say otherwise.
So, I guess you all need to get on the same page.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Whats the need in mentioning the moderators in the message? the Admin is sitting right in front of you, the rules do say not to annoy the moderators with stupid stuff
Now, for why I care. Because someone should.
Not really a shot. It's not like that specific topic hasn't been brought up to death in the past.
If breaking the rules dont harm anyone and they arent posting about it every minute then it shouldnt care much, you shouldnt go hostile on someone because they start typing
@kindred mason i didnt want to repost the whole thing just explain what i need and what the game is about
Even when I said "Last warning"
Well it quite seems like it
I linked the article, I had hoped it would have been enough context
Aqua - Today at 12:03 AM
Well if you mean me then:
VictorBurgos - Today at 12:05 AM
@plucky hatch please stop
whatever you are typing
You have already posted
@kindred mason Just stop arguing and move on. It's not worth it.
^
There is no arguing going on?
Stop. Move on.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
u dont mess with the guy with the collar that stays poppin
@plucky hatch Go ahead and repost your job opportunity with the correct prefix so it gets pinned. I'll delete your old one for you.
Thank you.
The prefix instructions are in #more-resources.
Actually, one sec. I made a mistake in the formatting.
Aqua r u looking for proooooooooofessional programmers or any programmers? :3
OK, I corrected the formatting.
Guys, keep the discussion on topic. 😉
k lets discuss there then
<vic_mode>Guys, server suggestions go in #server-feedback. </vic_mode>
Ah, excellent, because we need some animators. PM me for deets.
(paid comission) I'm looking for a programmer that can help me create a basic destruction system a la "Worms Armageddon" for dynamic objects.
@digital gate Knock it off.
is this the right place to look?
yeah, the admin can pin that message
they could its not in the right format though
@deft oriole Yes. Check #more-resources for instructions on getting our bot to automatically pin the message.

thanks for the tip guys, I think I did it right
lol ok
Sorry for the hyper-specific setup. It will be much easier with the new system I'm working on.
thanks for the troubleshooting haha
No problem. It's the least I can do while everyone waits for me to finish the new system.
Where can I go to look for projects to learn from or help in?
probably in general want to ask those questions in #ue4-general , but what's your skill level?
What skill levels are there?
"I don't know anything" "I know coding but i just started unreal" "I can make projects in unreal but I'm not that great" etc
the first one I would definetly look up beginners tutorials on youtube and then try to build some test projects. My philosophy is the best way to learn is by having a vision and going for it trying to make your first game, and any time you have a problem just try to find an answer in a youtube tutorial
there's a toooon of stuff on youtube if you search "begginers tutorial ue4"
also @tawny kayak you do a ton for this commnity don't get down on yourself lol
With mods?
Yeeeup.
Like the ark mod kit?
Like the any kind of mod kit.
It helps prove you can bring a concept to life.
And you can attract people that way as well.
I started off on HL1 mods.
And things kind of picked up from there.
But, I would go more modern.
ive been following a certain tutorial series here ill post a gif in a sec
Virtus?
ya
Yeah, I went through that as well. Not bad series.
You learn a lot from having a team, however.
yeah which is what im trying to do, I want to find a team with other new people or people that can help me learn unreal more
The best route owuld be to start your own, work with a couple other people and come up with a solid plan.
That's your project?
ya, I dont know what or how to improve upon it yet though
probably
Got a design doc?
its just a starting project to learn more about the engine
Ive tried inserting more 3d designs to work off of but the game doesnt like me importing them
I think i made a goofsie.
@plucky hatch just had the same problem, you have to put a space directly after [royalty] and not a return

[UNPAID] Looking for artists and programmers for a multiplayer game! Contact me for the discord & more information about the game
Please, please be a bit more specific in your public post when you ask for unpaid people like that. I mean, for all we know, you only have an idea, and haven't gotten anything yet (those projects are usually &%)#)&%@# working conditions, tend to fail, etc.). I'm not saying your project is like this, but generally when trying to get unpaid (or heck, even royaltee) people, you need to 100% sell your game to even get people to contact you asking about the details 😉
(that's just my 2 cents though, feel free to disagree with me 😃 )

[PAID] Job London needed ASAP
Hi I am a student at Guildhall School of Music and Drama (based in London near Liverpool Street) and am on the Video design course
We are making a VR experience about Roman London and am coming towards the end of our project (it is on the 19th of Oct)
We are a bit behind and really need some assistance/ someone to look over the project for a day or 2/3 as we don't have anyone in-house who knows how to use unreal The school will pay whoever comes in Any suggestions?
The project is going to be based in Leadenhall market and will take the viewer back to Roman London (the old London Forum and Basilica) The only interactivity from the viewer will be where they are looking We are using bits from the Roman Fantasy Pack from the marketplace
There is quite a big destruction scene and also a construction of the building - project length 3/5 mins
Any suggestions?
[UNPAID (for the moment)]
Project Name: Traverse
Role Required: Blueprint programmers | Unreal Engine
Team Size: 12
Project Length: TBD
Compensation: Rev-share, but we're soon planning to publish crowdfunding post. and after crowdfunding (if it is successful) everyone will get paid for the past and future work that they will do
Responsibilities: You have to create basic movement, interact with the environment, shoot and more.
Project Description: Traverse is a linear first person shooter with a gameplay combination of exploring, solving puzzles and fighting against enemies. Our goal is that the gameplay feels different than other current shooters on the market, and our focus is not entirely on combat. We want to achieve a good balance between a narrative experience, interesting puzzles and fun but challenging combat.
The combat will be different from most other shooters. Ammo will be a rare resource, enemies have different weak points and patterns so you can get to know them and weapons will be futuristic with some special properties.
Find more about it at the game website: http://traversethegame.weebly.com
PM me if you are interested
@open spire "You are Tamara, a young survivalist, before D-day you were an engineer for NASA." Nasa being founded in 56 makes that.... well silly.
@wheat hinge D-day in the game is Destruction Day. not Normandy landings.
Our game is not historically based. We are in discus about changing the names of organisations, places and similar which are real-life organisations, places etc.
D-day is the day when the aliens won the battle and destroyed most of the population, but thats part of the lore which is being written now by the writers, once it is finished we will publish it on our website
ah the game doesn't really give you a good year to base off of nor does it define what day that was
so you are assuming the reader knows more than they actually do
Michael, do you mind to continue this conversation on private and delete the comments here? I want people to see my post, I can give answers to any question you have
[UNPAID]
Role Required: 2xArtists (3D, modeling/texturing, Photoreal or stylized | 2D pixel/vector) and a 1xSound Dev (prefer composer/sfx, but just compose is just fine)
Team Size: Max is 5. Only one confirmed so far is me 😉 3-time Epic Games' Gamejam winner but we have quite a bit of interest.
Project Length: One Week
Compensation: We are going to have a lot of fun and potentially win lots of glory and goodies
Join the team discussion here: https://crowdforge.io/jams/epicmegajam/teams/491
Hope to see you soon! (mods, no need to pin this)

Hi guys, looking for some paid work!
Looking For Work: Unreal Engine 4 Tech / Level Designer
Website: http://www.georgehulm.co.uk/my-work
Rates: Negotiable based on budget and requirements. £200 /day
Experience: 2 years (all remote for various clients)
Contact: DM or Email - georgehulm@gmail.com
wtf 200£ each day ? how many hours each day?
200£ per day??? if you were not serious and kidding me , then in that case you are so funny man i like your humor
8 hours a day at £25/hr
if you have the skills, 200 a day is about right
200pounds/day is less than what my professional salary is, but could do good as a backup solution, though I do not have the skills required for that job
Within my field I have up to 1000 USD + expences, but it varies on the projects. Depending of course how specialized, and how much money is within the industry.
There is odd mentality with indie devs that it revolves around their low budgets never considering the artist/etc has bills to pay. Lot of devs take it as injustice.
$200 an day is pretty reasonable.
Hehe. If I told you all about devs working as cheap as $2/hour, you would cry. FYI for those bad at math... That's $16/day
Fat fingers
Devs in eastern europe and middle east like.... $5 ill make your entire game.
I charge more on fiverr then just about everyone but its crazy cheap still.
India and Philippines in particular are used for that in the film industry
Major studios also have studios based in those locations purely for the sweatshop rates. Was subcontracted for a DreamWorks film and had to deal with that myself. Noped out fast, so many issues.
Never been a threat to me, I don't consider them competition but it's really bad for the industry in other ways
Every industry* tbh
We have an art house in Thailand for similar reasons
but they require serious micromanaging and often the assets need fixing up afterwards, I'm not honestly sure how much we really save
In this case a lot of the fixup costs were being passed on to the smaller studios they contract, my employer ended up losing money from working with DreamWorks
can't pass on the costs when you own the studio outright, hehe
I get pretty riled up from that sorta stuff. Never mention Life of pi near me ;) (rhythm and hues going bankrupt after working on immensely successful film)

@Natalya#0985 👋 May I reccomend posting in English? Not 100% sure which language it is, but it looks like Russian or something like that (no offense intended). If you post in english you'll reach a much larger audience in here as we're an international group of ue4 users (who communicate in English) 😃
That's not true
The Russian Community is way bigger
Every once in awhile they do come here I've noticed
But usually they type in English 😃
I make videos and stream
^ not really the most proper job posting, i suggest to improve your post because atm nobody will take it seriously.
Hey am a high school student and need a teacher for unreal to tutor me
Now to ask the important question - why would somebody want to tutor you?
(there are plenty of good learning resources available for free, online)
With half-decent pay and a motivated person to work with, I'd probably take the offer
But yeah, the point stands, plenty of free tutorials
@kindred mason I have seen many of my compatriot here, we type in English and go with the stream 😂

In this role, you will help to inspire and create the environment & gameplay assets for the environments in our games.
still looking for someone to hire! (check pinned messages)
Maybe try making your job posting a bit more specific. Game designer is awfully vague and could really mean anything from idea-guy to gameplay programmer :/
[ROYALTY]
We are looking for: Gameplay Programmer, Network Programmer, Environmental Artist, FX Artist.
The Game: A Small Multiplayer Game of spell casting, deflecting and close combat fighting that all depend on reflexes and timing your deflecting of spells and other attacks. There's close combat and more gameplay ideas we can share with you. We also haven't cut the robe on our character to make the sword and wand go through it better as we've just started.
[PAID] - Animation Programmer / Animation Generalist
Hi all, I'm looking to partner up with someone who is comfortable with animation and ue4. My partner and I are very close to releasing our project on steam, but we are looking to brings someone on board to lend a hand with creating a few animations, and implementing them into our project for a few relatively simple gameplay mechanics. We are looking for someone familiar with in engine IK setups, animation blueprints (and blueprint in general), and authoring custom animations (default unreal engine 4 mannequin rig). We aren't expecting the quality of these animations to be fantastic, just something which works and allows the game to look less like a prototype.
The scope is pretty small, and the amount of work minimal for the right person.
Please reach out and message me if this is up your alley, and I would be happy to provide additional details.
Cheers!
[Maybe Paid depends on the work you are doing] Blueprinter. Hey guys im looking for a blueprinter for my game. The game is a stealth based rpg game and i need to add programming things. I am a level designer with mesh creation and, texture/ui creation expierence
[Paid] Character artist/rigger
Hi all, I just posted this in animation, but think this is probably a better channel for it. I know a company who are looking for someone to create a very basic character model and rig it. It's end goal is for non UE4 (I think) but it should work in UE4 with appropriate lods
Drop me a message with your portfolio and if I think it's good enough I'll certainly forward your details to the company.
Update: Preferably UK Based.
Don't think I've pinned anything in a looong time
bot was down last time I tried
[Paid] [LFW]
I am an Unreal Engine Developer specializing in gameplay design and Virtual Reality, but able to anything that Unreal Engine can handle

Resume:
@nimble sable you want **[PAID]**, **[UNPAID]**, or **[ROYALTY]** first to get pinned, and I'd throw in **[LFW]** after it and try to make it clear you're not offering a job.
I had several applicants when I posted a LFW post which is why I say that
IIRC there never was
[LFW] Test
maybe you're thinking of GDL
though they don't pin
Maybe it was a different server?
Or maybe one of the mods pinned it for me once and I wasn't fully looking at the name
pinning is probably broken again

ah, so it is working ^^

[UNPAID] Perhaps not the most suitable for #career-chat - but I'm looking for someone who can supply me with reference images of a tropical rainforest, location doesn't matter. Key element is that the colors are true to real life, so no color filters, and a white-balance that's as close to the real lighting as you can get. Thanks ❤
Dont think thats very relevant to this channel...
@plucky hatch you know you can edit the post and it'll update in the pins. Not saying you can't also post it here, but thought you might want to update the pin itself. Oh wait you have two pinned. w/e - neither have that video

Hey guys, I am looking to get my foot into the door in the industry, I have been looking on regular job sites a bit like monster and indeed, but it seems my results are mixxed in with various other jobs, either related to tech, programming or graphic design but outside of the gaming industry. I was wondering if there were any job sites that were specificly geared towards the gaming industry
example i search unreal engine on indeed and one of the top results is an eye lash artist at a spa -.-

@junior maple Artstation is a pretty good place to look. Even for more technical jobs
@vague tartan Do you have a link to a business plan or a game design document
@fickle hatch We do have those on file but I am afraid we are only issuing those out to those under NDA for right now. Those documents have not been made public yet. In terms of information you would typically find on a GDD, we do have sections of it on our website under game information. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to PM me.

Hello fellow developers!
Currently working on a game project as main artist/developer/company founder, but looking for some extra paid freelance work.

Seeking some new members Infomation in provided also I'm looking for someone that can do UI I can pay per asset for that thanks https://www.gamedev.net/forums/topic/690391-17102017-action-rpg-seeking-new-members-for-sci-fi-royalties/
@brazen fox use **[PAID]** to pin it
"A new console (All Infos will follow) that will run on Unreal and Unity"
Eh?
only serious offers
was it pinned manually?
yeah I don't wanna be writing software for hardware designed directly by marketing. Just sayin.
Unless you don't mean a physical console
So.... clarification?
I think it might be a language problem
I mean, a console wouldn't 'run on Unreal and Unity'
yeah but it might 'run Unreal and Unity'
but a game wouldn't 'run on' either IMO, certainly not both at the same time
Looking for animators for a paid project, hmu with a portfolio ❤

[ROYALTY]
Looking For: Modelers | Texture Artists | Animators | Sound Producers | Mappers | Someone who can help us network the game (BPs)
My Exp: I'm the project leader and main programmer.
Project:
We are doing this project as a hobby.
We have already started, we are aiming to release in Early Access in 1-3 months.
Here are some of the key features of the game:
- Scifi Fantasy Style
- Different Creature Tiers
- Survival Stats
- Character Attributes
- Skills system to unlock craftables.
- Can tame, ride and breed creatures.
- Each creature will have a use and there will be quite a few different taming methods for different creatures and tiers.
- Advanced Building System
- A big map with different biomes to explore and build in.
- Interesting Lore
Split: Depending on the sales, we will talk about that when we get close to release.
Completed:
Most of the technical part is already done, needs polishing and some more small features.
The map is WIP, the landscape and painting is mostly done.
We are currently working on more creature models, currently we only have 2 and they are probably going to be reworked.
@opal cloak ^ pin please ❤
thx
oh I forget to write what we have done, will edit and add that in a few minutes

Looking For Work
Oh got it
😉
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to ask this, and if not, please someone direct me to the right channel. I'm looking to create a budget plan for a research grant for a game project and I'm not ntirely sure where to start on how to budget for hiring freelance/contracts. I know we'll need a character artist and/or animator/rigger, an env artist (me), and possible help in various other minor areas (ue4 editor, mocap, etc.) Depending on the time frame that we have and who/what we can contract out, we may need to budget for purchasing various assets as well. We're not looking to hire anyone right this moment, though if you're interested in learning more, feel free to PM me, but I'm mostly just looking for feedback on how much you guys charge for contract work and how we should budget based on that. Do you normally rate hourly? Weekly? Monthly? One flat rate for a project? I know a lot depends on the specifics of the project and I'm being super vague on that, but I'm really looking for general information, and possibly more detailed info as we start looking for the help we need. Again, PM me for more details. And let me know if I'm in the wrong channel. Thanks in advance!
You should be able to get some idea of the process by looking at the pinned jobs in this channel and also the jobs section of the ue4 forum. It really does differ from project to project and based on skill level/work being done/etc.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve been passing through the job posts here most of the afternoon. I’ll check ue4 forums as well.
if I were to pay per character model for a low poly super hero or villain, rigged, and weight painted what should I offer? $10? $20?
mate, most riggers won't get out of bed for $20
tbh @sinful island Rigging is more effort than it seems, if your topology isnt good, they'll be fighting to get it working properly. Last thing anyone wants to do is paint weights for hours to stop deformations from being ugly.
I have done previs rigging and facial rigging before. Never again lol, especially if you want a sound control system with FK/IK switches, blendshapes animated spline joints. $100 dollars would be the lowest of the low, not many would accept that amount either.
most riggers won't get out of bed for 500$
Damn those Numbers Drive me crazy. Im responsible for the frontend and im Not paid either and its almost impossible to find people who want to join a unpaid Project.
I feel really Happy to have an weapon Animator. And hes unpaid as Well.
You won't find professionals working for free, that's sort of the point of them being professionals
You can definitely find people just learning to help, though
it's quite rare that someone can do a high quality output just as a hobby
?
Well, at some point you have to realize that a lot of people don't use gamedev as their hobby.
We pay our rent with it. Obviously not a lot of people can do that when working for free.
i wouldnt say rare, but its rare that they'd do it for the sake of someone else
I sure wouldnt at this point
Offering advice is one thing, but actually doing work for something for no return is no dice
If you have people working for free it has like 2-3 general causes:
- They are learning and use it as an opportunity
- They really love the project and want it to be a thing
- They do it to relax next to their actual project and maybe to get some new stuff for the portfolio
Individuals may have their own ideas why they do that, but yeah
I don't mind working for free, when I do it for myself (my own projects) 😄
Correct. That's the second point in the lsit though
The project is either your own or you really want it to be a thing and kinda make it your own
but on your projects you dont have deadlines vs a professional environment
so you can output higher quality
at least that's my experience
very last
If you start a game in UE4 that you want to do with free working people. you ahve to expect a lot longer dev times
If it even finds people spending time on it
and lower quality
@wild solstice I see what you mean. What I was saying is that if someone does gamedev as a hobby than it's hard to expect them to output high quality content and do it for free. Obviously there are cases where someones daily job is gamedev + they do more gamedev as a hobby. Those guys can produce high quality regardless, as they spend 40 hours a week on improving their skills anyway.
yeah, thats true, but like we said earlier, most professional/ skilled artists are already getting paid at this point, so actually finding someone who can output crazy art thats optimised is hard
Yeah, people who do that either really like your project and want to contribute or they do it to unwind
Maybe the daily job is to do tons of organic meshes
and rigs/anims
And when you start bidding for professionals, keep in mind that you are bidding against established studios who also want work done.
And your project offers them a way to check out some hardsurface modeling
Things like that
hm
i dont think the guy looking for a rigger was bidding for a rigger from Blizzard
it depends on the quality and usability of the rig
Not saying. Just giving ideas why searhcing people that work for free is hard and maybe pointless, depending on the quality and time of the person you want
this channel should be good for finding indie/amateur/hobbyist whatever folks
It's good for both though
how many indies found success that started like this pretty much ? a team of people working for free
A handful?
Yeah, I've found one gig through the channel, even though my rates are higher than indies tend to like.
idk
this is also an international thing too, I'm Australian so my rates may be better for someone from the US, which has a stronger exchange rate
Put me 3 years back and I would maybe join a free team
But then again. gamejams
Offer me to work on a project in a team without having to do long term commitment
GameJams are the only free things I do
but its a weekend of fun with a bunch of people
I havent done online ones
As far as I can see, most freelancers won't join your team unless you pay their rate.
Easy as that.
@swift oracle Check Epics upcoming one
@wild solstice too few to bet anything on it. and at the end of the day "success" is a relative thing. Shipping a single game that sells well doesn't guarantee a career or ability to stay in industry.
Maybe even with friends or online friends
I do jams and maybe the occassional prototype
but the likelihood of me working on your project for free is really quite low - I need an income and I value my time, after all!
it used to be the barrier of entry into the industry was a shipped title for many years..
Dont think I have time for Epic's one, I have my Day job as well as my own indie game im working on
plus AU internet lmao
The free time I have, I want to use on my own projects
@wild solstice it still is, dunno how long it will stay like that thoe 😄
But see, you can learn a lot and produce something good in a week of time on a gamejam.

Short showcase video of this years Epic Mega Jam project, done by 4 friends of mine and me. More information and a download link can be found on the official...
Just if someone here thinks about how to improve /shrug
i just dont see the point of telling someone how they should not look for cheap / free help... maybe it didn't work out for you but dont be putting others down
it all depends what level and focus youre at i suppose
Not saying "Don't look." Just saying "Don't expect a lot."
no reason to create a false sense of hope
I'm always down to offer advice if i have an answer, but chances are there are plenty of people in here more experience, especially since I havent worked in a studio before
Experience doesn't mean they are better though. Just that they know more.
my advice for @sinful island .. try mixamo's auto rig
it does a decent job in 2 minutes
My advice for free projects? Grab as much placeholder art as you can and do the code first.
Alright. I need to get back to work :P
"that will be 25.55$"
And if youre an artist, people will gravitate to your work if it stands out
just have to get out there more, networking is one of the hardest things, but is the best way you'll get a job. I know for a fact i need to do it more
sometimes its not about selling yourself, I think its moreso to do with taking/ giving advice, getting to know people without having such a harsh business focus
i dont even have a portfolio anywhere
Portfolio is king until you have a really strong network who knows your work anyway.
I'm freelancing with the clients i did work before, don't actively seek out new business opportunities
and those clients i didnt get on my own either, friends and family recomendations
i need to network, do the social media, make a website / portfolio etc
Its difficult for me to look for Real-time work in my area, and I dont actually have any family members or close friends in industry or connected
most of the stuff i do are Meetups
i mean i know all the good advice,s but just dont apply it on myself
GameJams are a great place
i think i need a manager 😄
.. i want to participate in a game jam, but again having trouble networking with people to find a team
go to #game-jam-chat in this discord?
for locals you can just rock up by yourself, and just go around asking if people need an artist/ programmer
i'm keeping an eye there and here
chances are you'll find a team real quick
so far all the free projects in here didn't impress me
I might be on the lookout for more environment artists in the future, but we still have to get kickstarter prepped
i dont mind working for free, but it need to be for a good cause
well i'm a programmer / generalist
i can do some 3d
is 'making me a lot of money' a good cause?
but not organic stuff like people or animals
(it sounds like a good cause to me)
I'm a Modeller/ Texturer with experience in Tech Art
it's not a good cause for me :p
I need to do humans more
but im generally good with almost anything else, just need to go back to zbrush and spam anatomy studies lol
The truck was a commision i got really burnt on, .. made me realize i need to learn how to make contracts and how to communicate properly with the client what exactly it is they want
.. it started as "we need 5 renders and will provide the model but need to know the cost upfront"
turned out the model was a bunch of cad files of a 75% done truck.. no exterior details etc.. so i had to model a bunch of details
and 5 renders turned into 30
Damn, maybe I shouldn't have answered ;)
Well i will find a modeler for weapons someday. I just have to keep search.
I try to focus.... because i walk with a some kind of strange attitude. I always say:
"You can coat a piece of shit into gold but it remains a piece of shit"
Well, this is the strangest thing I've read in a while, out of nowhere 😄 ^
But isnt it true?
@wild solstice i want to participate in a game jam, but again having trouble networking with people to find a team What's your role? - tag me in #game-jam-chat
You can publish a game with horrible graphics, when the game is good people dont care that much. But try to release a bad game with good graphics, they remember the game is bad and not that the graphics are good.
^^^^
I actually get by with low poly graphics as long as it looks like you tried and it's not nintendo 64, maybe play with post process a bit, hand paint some, it'll work out just fine
ps it's not that I don't know how to rig, I just really don't want to for one and two I want to focuss on code for a while and when I have some down time I can brush up on my art skills.
I'm not ready to do a forrmal LFW post here, but I'm in need of some guidance.
I need... well I need to either make something that can seed my portfolio, or I need to join a project and have that serve the same goal.
as it stands though, i don't know enough Unreal to do either, and while I can contribute as an artist...
I don't know. Just. Not in a good situation rright now.
@worn bone Go to #game-jam-chat
You will have less than two weeks to prepare
But you will have something for your portfolio
After that week is up
(two weeks to prepare does not mean make the game two weeks ahead of time, just get as good as you can in the two weeks)
right
yes
gotcha, thanks
@wild solstice That's a really cool truck
I appreciate the effort. For our game, we work a lot with engineering data
Models from CAD etc

[PAID] hey guys. I need some help figuring out what I am doing wrong when trying to open my project with the source code version of 4.15.0 I have plugins that are giving me a hard time saying this https://infusestudio.gyazo.com/17fe288e1ebf6c4c59c7f1db8e6db4c8 if I click yes it says this. https://infusestudio.gyazo.com/c47feb55d194bae58369754c41450b33 . They plugin versions are for 4.15.0 and I dont have access to the source code of them. If anyone can help me resolve this I can compensate you for your time. PM me! Thanks.
@flat gazelle lol from where?
Well, if you worked on Battlefront, we would have been in the same building.
[PAID] Looking For: Level designer
We are looking for a level designer to help with the blockout of our new prototypes. Doesnt need art skills, but very good level design skills. We are looking for someone who has done maps for unreal tournament, quake, or other games of the like. Designer job would be to discuss and prototype greybox levels.
@cunning rain you need to recompile/build from inside visual studio not from the project file explorer then go through and fix any errors
Where did you get your NDA´s from? I´m looking for a concept to change it a bit, but the ones i find dosn´t fit that well. Someone got a tip?
@pine scarab The team I am with uses formswift for our NDA files. They have a nice template that you simply fill in with the company details and the person signing the document's details.
@vague tartan do they work?
I just sent one 2 minutes ago
And I normally get a signature back pretty soon
Its all through email which is really nice
Yeah i get that, but just by quick reading it, its a NDA but nothing special about game dev nda.
Pretty sure for a correct NDA you have to write something down about the Source Code or Assets.
I mean for a "safer" NDA.
Unsure if this covers that.
Ever heard the phrase one size fits all?
😄
Thats the kind of element you are going for here
One nda to cover all elements of the company beyond the specific stuff
Because lets be honest, in certain cases you want more than source code and assets cover
If you give people specific examples, theres bound to be someone to find a way around it with something
Better to have that standard NDA to say "Dont talk about anything that isnt publicly released or allowed"
And your set
Y that might be true
What are you looking to use the nda for?
We aren´t a company but i think it can be done between persons.
Actually we add new programers to our team, so we need some protection because we don´t know them that long.
We are a indie group and not a company.
A lot works with trust in our group. Is working good, but you never know.
Better safe than sorry
Speaking of programmers, I should post my ad

@vague tartan if you add the [tag] at the beginning of your message like the other pinned ones then I will pin it for you.
Thank you @carmine siren
@vague tartan Rev-share project with 70 people? First time I see such a big team with rev-share
@bleak grail When you have a decent project along with some good organization and communication, you tend to build up a decent team. Besides, MMORPGS take a decent size team to make especially with the kind of team we have.
1.5ish % on sales
2-3 years of working
MMO
I mean, if the MMO market wasn't saturated, and this brought out something awesome and it had subs.
you wouldn't get 1.5% though
you've got to take out distribution cut, corporation taxes, things like software license royalties, legal expenses etc
You're probably looking at 1/3rd of that or less
even so, at a 1.5% split, even if the game makes millions in profit, you'd probably still make more working stacking shelves in a supermarket
(though you wouldn't get the experience of course)
(REV-SHARE) UE4 blueprinter I'm willing to negotiate percentage after profit I need someone who can make a TPS/FPS blueprint drivable and enterable vehicles weather and base and house building blueprints it's a military survival games also health bars and stuff
@brave acorn You may want to provide some more information so that people can get an ideea of exactly what your after.
@spice dagger
It would be better to edit your previous post and include that information so that it resides in the Pinned message 😃
@spice dagger is that good

Looking For: Modelers | Texture Artists | Animators | Sound Producers | Mappers
My Exp: I'm the project leader and main programmer.
Project:
We are doing this project as a hobby but also hoping to be able to make it our full time job in the future.
We have already started, we are aiming to release in Early Access in 1-3 months.
Here are some of the key features of the game:
- Scifi Fantasy Style
- Survival Stats
- Character Attributes
- Skills system to unlock craftables.
- Can tame, ride and breed creatures.
- Each creature will have a use and there will be quite a few different taming methods for different creatures and tiers.
- A Unique & In Depth Energy (Electricity) System
- Advanced Building System
- A big map with different biomes to explore and build in.
- Interesting Lore
Split: Depending on the sales, we will talk about that when we get close to release.
Completed:
Most of the technical part is already done, needs polishing and some more small features.
The map is WIP, the landscape and painting is mostly done.
We are currently working on more creature models, currently we only have 2 and they are probably going to be reworked.
Just a tip: If you're trying to get people on a royalty basis, Split: Depending on the sales, we will talk about that when we get close to release. isn't a good pitch - it could mean that the person working for royaltee doesn't even get paid because that is what you wanted close to the release. I'd always reccomend having atleast a framework in place - eg. even if it's just something simple, it'll make people feel a lot more comfortable. Just my (horribl) 2 cents though
(Just for the record - I was in a situation where they first stated royaltee, and it was later a $400 max, for probably >200 hours of work, spread out over about a year......AKA, I won't personally ever consider royalty unless the (payment) terms are clear before I start 😛. Not saying you're like this, and I am in no way trying to discourage you ^^)
I can second what @untold granite says. I always pass on royalty unless a clear and fair plan is in place for determining split.
Depending on sales has no place in split discussion, save for the company making enough that you can actually split it up.
tbh I mostly pass on royalty cause I'm working paid. But even if I weren't I still pass on non-clear terms
^ I just quit contract work as a whole (for now) 😛 But yeah, glad I'm not the only one thinking this ^^
i made decent money thanks to money sharing after release o.o
much better money than with normal x money per hour.
@untold granite @digital gate
Its alot more risk involved.
i like risk. as long as death isn't involved
This kind of split is kinda ridiculus they can alter it at any time, so you pour your heart and soul into it and end up with nothing I'd personally never take a risk like this, I think there should be a clear cut reward so that you can calculate wether or not to take this risk but it seems the reward will change depending on sales, I'd settle for an overall % from the begining and make sure to do my best to make the game's models, concepts and animations look as professional as possible so that hopefully the game sells. I mean time is kind of important, got a lot of shit to do.
all those unrelated messages makes my post and others` hard to be seen
this is for job posts, u wanna debate go to other sections
job posts get pinned
@cloud swallow Job posts get pinned if properly formatted. This channel is also here for discussion.
yall should just add a discussion channel to the coming jobs category.
if its not there already
Was just stated that this channel is for discussion and the job postings get pinned??
Anyway this kind of risk I think like if anyone were to take it they would probably be people with either a lot of time on their hands or they want to get into this field and they want to learn by making something while working with a team and if they are really beginners that want to get into this field the product won't end up that great anyway, so it's kind of set up to fail but that's just my opinion that nobody would really be attached to the cause.
@crisp widget but this is like the fourth time I've seen people complain about it
that means they don't know how useful pinned posts are.
@granite brook Nah, I tried yesterday
lol
I would go royalty, its not like I have anything agaisnt the payment structure. Just never really had a non-private royalty offer that made any sense.
rev. share only if games makes more than 30.000 usd for example.
10% from revenue then
or a fixed amount if revenue > x usd
Yeah, but that's not Depending on sales- that's well defined.
in my mind, royalty == unpaid. Both having equal potential of getting you revenue upon success or nothing if it bails
Rev. share is great if it's an established studio - it's bound to sell well most of the time
I wouldn't go with rev. share for small projects though
rev share and unpaid both mean you have to pay your bills from something else during dev time
job, savings, parents, wellfare, whatever... it means you're not getting paid during development
yes. perfect understanding!
well I do 2d, 3d + rigging and animation which takes a lot of resources time and energy if i am not going to be properly compenated then I'll just stick to my side job which brings in a good amount of money and do other projects that compensate better or more secure.
it is strange if someone wants money from a small studio who makes no money
what i mean to say is that unpaid is not necessarily worse then rev share and often they end up being the same thing
rev share turning to unpaid or unpaid turning to rev share
but not with a contract right?
If you want to get paid, never work without a contract
so far it has worked out for me mostly in my favor without contracts
but i wouldn't advise it in todays world
Yeah, It usually works, but you can't count on the money without a contract
the one time i had trouble getting paid was when i had a contract
ironically
as a gov employee
courts decided in my favor, still not getting paid
xD
[LFW][PAID / CONTRACT ONLY] Programmer / Generalist with 3 years of experience in UE4 (and another 5 with general game dev / Unity) looking for contract work, preferably short-to-mid term. I work as a team lead on an internal project and as such I've dabbled in pretty much every single area of the engine, meaning that I can do gameplay programming, system design, AI, animation etc. Rates are flexible and depend on the duration and nature of the work. Additionally, I offer training for individuals and teams. PM for more information.
I was going to say, if it was an established dev putting it together and was looking for rev share I would do it, or they had something compelling to show. Some random dude on the internet with an idea? Nah
Like maybe I would work on 5 nights at freddies 6 or whatever for rev share.
Gee Bill
What good is 3 years experience in UE4 when the updates continually make features obsolete?
I think that can be compromised to about 1.5 years.
But I don't even have one year yet.
@plucky hatch You realize that's him saying he wants work an has 3+ years xp? That's not him demanding someone with 3 yrs. Also just because a few things change doesn't negate your experience with the codebase.
Kinda rude I think to tell someone how long they can claim they've worked for.
+1
quite a few Unreal conventions haven't changed much in over a decade
Experience less worth cause of updates? Wth...
Even if you change to Unity your experience is worth a lot.
^ Agreed, even if the only thing you've had is the mindset of problem solving, and experience in doing so, it'll still be worth something, no matter the updates/engine you're using as most of the core principals are the same. And I must admit that updates may have changed a few things, but atleast on the c++ side, most of the stuff I learned what is now over 1.5 years ago, is still the same 😛
^
UE4 was a heck of a lot easier to get into with my gamedev basics already in place from a year or two of using Unity
why is UE always changing so heavy? unity isn't huh?

If anyone still cares about last night
No, I did not realize he was posting to find a job. I was about to go to sleep.
I apologize. Didn't know he wasn't hiring.
Maybe I just got hell bent on disproving that people require 3+ years for jobs like this.

Man...wtf...I can't believe people think it's okay to record conversations and then only stating they were recording them when the call is about to be over... not before. I just did a consultation on a project and this happened. I can't believe I now have to ask clients if they are secretly recording me in the future because of this experience. The client said it's for his own personal use but...still... In the USA anyway, that's a big no-no. (And in this case, both parties were in USA), I'll have to get confirmation exactly, if it is required prior to the conversation taking place, or could happen at anytime after conversation takes place... but scary... Even though, the client was happy with the consult, it still irks me that such a situation took place.
I'd think its the stricter of the relevant locales
So if one is a two-party consent its illegal
if both are single-party its fine but scummy IMO
Well, the issue is, does it have to be prior to the conversation or not
Even in one-party consent
one party is "im ok recording myself"?
No
One-party consent is still the same as recording yourself plus whoever else may be in the conversation but stating you are "consenting" to the recording
it doesn't matter who consents. Just one of you has to.
Hrm, maybe.
Which in this case, he obviously did. But, now I need to figure out if it is required to be done prior to the conversation or not.
It ended in me not wanting to pursue his offer of me jumping on board the project. Which could have gone the other way had I had prior knowledge. But meh. Still...
Oh, he posted in my thread. gametime
Well, I suppose there goes 100% approval rating ROFL
You charged someone 70 dollars for a 1.5 hour consult? Ouch.
1.2 hours*
Ah from that?
I wrote the actual hours in there
almost 3 hours
1.2 hours was just the client literally talking about his project and what was wrong with it and what he wanted to get fixed.
Oh. I've seen people have them write it down first.
Like I said... he wasn't prepared
That way they don't waste time.

You
both yall but you seem to be especially hurt
Im kidding /bait
Ah, interesting.
I mean, you wouldn't feel slighted after being told how much of a wonder job you did, and then in the written review, bascially shit on you?
I mean yeah the first rule in business is you don't burn your business partners even if they are burning you.
I mean you put all his stuff up on your post.
An honest and open context.
nah dude that bridge is ash
@digital gate Do you have amy marketplace packs for sale? Your name sounds familiar
imo
I think he does!
Bridge was burned as soon as I found out I was being secretly recorded
Well depending on your state that is illegal
Doesn't matter even IF it's legal
If me and you were having a conversation, and I told you at the end of it, that I recorded you
You would be 100% okay with that?
I mean sure, it depends.
sure and technically in my state it would be illegal up until they asked at the end of the recording.
and personally I would be fine with it cause they are paying for it.
and I've even seen other videos of consultants go through stuff although they knew they were recorded
They are NOT paying for the recording though?
They're paying for your time
But again, I wouldn't even have cared if I had been told in the beginning of the conversation.
Eh I mean it's good to have a recording of what you go through and your in florida right?
Paying for my time is different
My commentary is not about what happened.
Then paying to record me in secret
Ye he shoulda been upfront
I dunno and like I said even if he burns the bridge, you don't burn it back.
Anyway, he then proceeded to offer me a job to complete this project...
When I declined, I am assuming this is where he felt it necessary to twist facts about.
Even though it was strange after receiving a compliment from him.
Nah, I am a fight fire with fire type of person.
I give back just as much as I get or more.
Would you quit a job if you found the computer at the job was monitored?
Depends on what the contract I signed stated.
100% positive that shit has to be in the contract
So, I would have been aware probably.
But, if not, and for whatever reason it was legal. Then probably yeah.
I find that creepy as f*ck.
Again it depends on the state but US federal doesn't require them to tell you
Florida laws probably don't either as it's their machine that they own and you are using.
I'd just assume that its monitored at some level
At the very least
Some don't they are start ups and etc
but I worked for T-Mobile and Comcast
key cards and etc
like you want privacy at work?
go to the bathroom, that's the only place they can't record.
Unless you're using the WiFi on the toilet?
I mean legally they can't record your video/audio
It also depends on electronic comms vs live-comms in some states
apparently oregon is a 1 party consent state for electric and 2 for live
for real though I recommend looking up all the laws on this stuff. It's complex but for your specific place you should know it.
If you plan on recording you should find out the laws of land where the people that you are recording live/work.
Which might have been what this person did and recorded you for that reason.
Actually
He only figured it out after asking me where I lived
So...yeah
And that was at the end of the conversation
Again, I think I could have managed had there been prior consent or at the very least, been told before the whole thing went down.
I mean, obviously it was good money. Even had I jumped on board.
But there was this level of trust that broke instantly. It cracked when he questioned why we needed contracts. Shattered completely when that secret recording business took place.
Sure but does that mean you gotta publicially fight with him?
99% rating or no, you now have what some will see as a overly defensive rant.
Not only that but something that other potential future clients see and think Ehh this guy seems a bit rough.
It's just much easier to fight these things with kindness
in the long run it does better
It's 70 dollars which is a good number of dollars don't get me wrong but if you were like dude your not happy with the consult, lets cut the fee in half. Surely a good review is worth 35? I mean I find the fact you are keeping a rating at all either very egotistical or very marketing heavy either way I'd personally pass on. But you find it enough to modify your title and change your marketing based around this?
35 dollars and you wouldn't have had to deal with all this extra stuff, just gone on your day and not been upset about it.
pat the poor confused guy who clearly is just getting into game dev on the head and go well maybe down the road when I don't have so much on my plate. Then ideally when they come back they will have learned a shit ton more and you can actually work with them.
Oh no
And it's not much of a rant as giving full blown context. If people pass me up due to this, so be it. I fully accept the consequences. However, given how many contracts I've gotten over the past 4ish months post graduation, including some off of here. I really think people understand and value my honesty.
I do wish more people would write reviews though.
🤷
But it's like that in every business, you only get maybe 25% to write something
I dunno, my wife is a healthcare massage practitioner. It's more rare she doesn't get a review after a session.
Although that's more feedback oriented in a formal setting as it's very health and chart heavy
but it shows with the right structure you can increase that percentage
isnt freelance more of a game of word of mouth
ratings arent important, honestly it's moreso your name being spread around and exposure, in a good way of course
becoming friends with people that get a lot of work may pass some your way if they cant handle it
Yeah, 90% of my clients come through contacts I\ve worked with in the past.
Hmm
Maybe 75
the hard part is building connections, I've been out a year and have only got a few jobs
tho I dont actively pick up jobs in here
i think its 75% network 25% skill
for being established anyway
its almost 100% skill to begin
Well, most jobs in here are hobbyists, so if you are making a living of freelancing this really isn't the best channel.
pretty much
not to mention project duration vs payment
I dont mind doing a quick model for some money, but I cant commit myself to another long term project
Longterm is fine as long as you invoice monthly and have a clause that you can leave if necessary
at a bare minimum having an email with terms and an agreement to them
that being said my country (australia) hasnt got a large demand for UE4 at the moment
Studios have been in talks with possible on-site contracts, but I still doubt they will get the funding
Alright I need someone to set up a character model for a demo im sending to Creative for possible funding. I can pay let me know your rates in a PM or if you have another idea for payment im open to ideas.
I can pay in hardware from my current partners if you need hardware. interdictionstudios.com/about/partners/
@umbral ocean Define "set up"? Model, texture, rig, animate, anim BP, controller...?
its rigged, it needs to have its animations and controller, blueprint all done
animations can be off the marketplace as its just a first person character. Only one or two custom animations will be needed.
To it only needs blueprint work to be a nicely functional first person controller, then?
its legal to record voice if one person is aware about it @kindred mason i learned about that in my law class
however it is really shitty to do
@hybrid phoenix correct it needs a good controller made.
and a couple custom animations created
the animations can be from the free animation packs and just retargeted.
just need to get the demo finished and sent to Creative, Razer, Nvidia for review

@tawny kayak What's up with this bot? It was working a few hours ago. Or is it prejudice?! 😉
It's one of the reasons I'm moving away from using pins.
tbh, 50 pins is excessive, some of those must have been there for a while?
we don't get that much traffic in here
The oldest pin was October 12.
I mean 12
I removed everything up to October 16, aka two weeks ago.
Yeah, numbers op
Which was about 9 jobs.
@lilac walrus You wouldn't think, but we did this month oddly enough
weird
We usually get the most traffic around MegaJam time.
Yeah we had so much chatter in this channel
But it wasn't anything MegaJam related though
¯_(ツ)_/¯

Just a heads up folks: jobs are now posted to #looking-for-talent and #looking-for-work via Unrealbot. Check the #more-resources for instructions, right under the first paragraph.
And please use #server-feedback to let us know how we can improve the functionality! 😃
So if there are 2 other channels for talent and looking for work what is the careers channel for?
Discussion
Oh I see so it keeps it all cleaner
Hello. Looking for an Art Director and Producer in Ukraine. Maybe someone is interested
Xd
why isn't this grouped with jobs? :p
Cause it's meant for discussions
Lol @craggy snow I just asked the same thing
I'm going to post in the #server-feedback
Our studio is hiring: http://gunfiregames.com/careers/
Only if you pay them big bucks
wut?
Nada, but don't forget we have #looking-for-talent @buoyant latch
PM bot, look at #more-resources
yea but Im not gonna translate them all into that format
😉
Just figured I'd throw it in here if anyone was interested
@buoyant latch I'd be interested if I were local or even a Citizen of the US, and I guess you guys wouldn't do sponsored Visa unless it's a more senior candidate right?
I really don’t know sorry! Doesn’t hurt to email and ask!
Not the purpose of the channel though (: so next time, throw it into the #looking-for-talent channel

^
The instructions are also pinned to the channel so you don't have to scroll up.
Oh I see, way better format 😃
Okey lol, first feedback is please make the cencel timer longer or just make it a command to cencel without a timer
It takes time to think and write these kind of stuff
@tawny kayak
This is really annoying.. Just sayin 🤔
Way better system but the timer really needs to get changed
Write in notepad and then copy/paste into post?
Well yea but ah..
I guess I could have looked at the channel to see what "questions" it would ask
Does anyone know of some good examples for a Programmer's portfolio?
