"Snappy Roads" this product looks amazing on paper but when it comes to the actual setting up your own custom meshes and everything else, It's a huge mess. The meshes that come with this product are very low poly. When importing your own custom assets, nothing aligns up correctly, and the blueprint ends up breaking. You are better of building your own blueprint that aligns the curbs, and streets. No assets are allowed to say they are UE5 ready, as it the engine still hasn't been finished yet. Your mileage may vary 🙂

so I'd download marketplace assets and add it to my own custom plugin i'm developing (not for sale) instead to project. I just don't want the assets being added to project directory and copying them to plugin yields tons of errors.

u need to move them to the plugin's content directory (in ue4 not in windows) and then right click everything and click fix redirectors or something like that
thanks but no. I am aware of many was to move/migrate content but most of them fail in some way. E.g. AnimationsStarterPack is tied to UE4 skeleton, You'd try to move it in any way and most of things break so manual setup is needed.

Hi, I am using purchased assets from cgaxis.com, which they provide in the UE format for their models. I am trying to add the asset to my level, which includes a "uasset" file along with geo and textures. Its unclear how I import the asset so all materials are connected correctly. Currently I add the root asset folder into my project but no materials are connected. Is there a proper procedure for importing things so materials are connected??? Here is the asset directory supplied.
you basically take that entire folder (the uasset and folders) and put it inside your project content folder. It will find everything relative to that

Are there any ready to use packs of animated people for archvis in the marketplace...I didn't see any, any other preferred source that is ready for unreal, and not 2k for 10 assets. Would be nice to get skeletal the twinmotion character lib in UE😅
Isn't the Twinmotion library straight from anima? Because anima has an Unreal plugin mostly targeted for archviz.

yeah, the anima pro plugin workflow is very poorly documented, which makes me reluctant off the bat. There are only a few promo videos, and its always showing layout work in anima, add characters in anima, then import to unreal, as apposed to having a library of characters to just drag and drop in an unreal level. Actorcore and its plugin is the best option I have found so far...its still a one by one process, but its slightly automated and lets me drag and drop to layout, vs having to do it in another app. BUT, again, time = $$, so setup time

You might don't do it for me, but would be nice to have regional pricing applied, not just US Dollars.
It's fine though if you don't want to implement it, assuming most of the traffic were coming from the US, and you felt like not worth fetching regional prices data because of it.
I don't feel like regional pricing woudl be significant, I'm not from the US but if I'd be going on this site it'd be to browse stuff not buy, and the rough USD price is fine, and only after I finally choose what to buy I'd go on the real marketplace page and see the exact price there

If you're trying to get something old from the Marketplace, and it says it only supports 4.24 for example, do you really have ot install 4.24 to download the content, and then you can copy it over to your 4.27 project?
oh ok i found it, i had to click "show all projects" and then choose the version that it had that I wanted to install. So it's installing the 4.24 version into my 4.27 project. Thanks!

Creating landscapes with Megascans for the Marketplace?
So I’m curious - when creating content like landscape for the UE Marketplace - Can one use Megascans textures? Or is that a no-no?
And if not - then what does one usually use? Create scratch textures from Substance Designer? Quixel Mix textures into obscurity??
You should ask the Marketplace Support for clarity on using Quixel Megascans for material, as non-Epic assets can be leeched to other engine/tools by default.
But typically you'd want to make the materials from scratch, or simply sell the heightmaps.

The built in water system would be your best option. Have you been collecting the freebees for the month? UIWS was free like 7 months ago, this is a great water system for small area's. You dig your terrain out and place the water

Compile a demo game with the assets and the TP or fp bp. Add key so people cant steal assets, or just simply make a youtube video. If it's a plugin do not include the plugin when creating a sample project.
can someone tell me the best fight animations pack in marketplace?
Does anyone have recommendations for a good source of grounded/realistic locomotion animations. For use in a historical project, so perhaps a little more rigid/formal than your average adventure game animations.

You can use textures from Substance Source without any issues.
Check waterline pro (you can add water decals too) and aquatic surface.

So I found a youtube creator that has like 50k subs, and when a pack was free for the month he would create a level and give the files with the project for free in his description. This is not allowed? right? Because when i look up the asset pack it cost money. ( some are from like early 2019 - 2020 ).. This seems off to me

Also, if you are abandoning the project, try to add a note to the description to get the refund for the user. You can also post via your marketing channels.
I had such a product & I stopped developing it. Then I offer users a full refund if needed.
Also, try to talk to the MP team before you do that. Then they can easily approve the refund without talking to you.

Not quite sure where i have to go about this, but not that long ago my epic games got hacked and i lost my old account with all of my ue4 purchases on it. I can still download the latest version i had at the time but i can no longer recieve updates. i didnt realize this until i went to check out the new update for a certain pack and it was trying to make me re buy it. I have the receipt from when i purchased it. does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Your not going to find really anything that supports all of those things that have more than 1k poly on each mesh.
Most spline based assets on this marketplace focus on very low poly assets and break with custom meshes.

I would recommend branching out to other places that have higher quality assets like turboquad, sketchfab, renderhub that have a more of a variety of a selection and creating your own spline. It's not hard to understand the logic in a blueprint like this.

snappyroads, that tool above is a great spline system, BUT it will require a huge amount of modifying to make to work with your custom model.

I'm working on a code plugin that is inspired by some other plugins on the marketplace. It takes some of the best ideas from both and aims to be an improvement on those ideas, adding additional functionality or cleaner ways of doing things, more comprehensive documentation etc
The problem is that because it shares a lot of the same ideas with regards to how it works, at the moment some of my API is similar to an existing plugin's code.
How worried should I be that I'll just be perceived as copying proples ideas?
should only be a problem if you copy the code, or look at said code and just rewrite it.
I think it’s totally fine to copy some idea from someplace and improve on it. I think almost everyone does this. As Luos mentioned don’t copy the code.
And people really like better docs that are lacking for most of the MP assets.
I think you can even have leverage if you implement the same idea with better docs and usability.

Yeah. You can easily export them via Substance Designer.
If you want to sell on the MP, it’s based on the marketplace license and agreements. You can’t do anything with that. But you can sell it outside MP as you wish.
I guess you can work with Epic for custom licenses. But not sure they will comply on your case.
Part of the CC4 means you have to include stuff with it. That isn't allowed under the marketplace guidelines, as you cannot include any kind of license with it other than what Epic grant you. By stuff I mean this:

See the thing is Epic go out of their way to specifically mention and allow limited use of CC-0 assets in demo content of a marketplace asset. This to me heavily infers that use of any other CC assets cannot be used. You would be wise to email the marketplace team directly, and ask them. So, I've been working on blueprint tool in UE4 and I'm wondering if any anyone knows if it's allowed to have the same content in other marketplaces like ArtStation and Gumroad at the same time as in Unreal's Marketplace.
It seems like it's OK based on what it says in section 1.a under "Grant of License to Your Content", assuming I understood it correctly

The tool is for assets presentation with the idea of artists being able to quickly render their 3D props and characters without having to know much about the in and outs of Unreal's lighting. It's still at a very early stage so I'm thinking of releasing it for free.

There's like many of them, and yes, you can sell your creations outside of UE Marketplace.
Only exceptions were made to contents provided by Epic, which in that case only limited to UE

You should check your channels though. Epic can't do a stuff, if your bank is banned or you use visa/mastercard say.
I don't sell stuff myself,. I'm asking as my main job is at a fairly large international company and dealing with any russian entity is now completely forbidden. Even our russian employees have been disconnected from several internal networks to comply with EU sanctions. I'm merely wondering what would happen if russian content creators would no longer get money from marketplace sales and cease to provide support as a result.
Not all companies have yet done the necessary work to comply with the sanctions, it's a bit of a mess right now.
Shame on the West for not adhering to free market principles

Anybody ever had purchased content disappear from their vault? My co-developer bought Easy Systems RPG a while back. It's just straight up gone from his vault now.
He's had several other items go disappearing, and has put off putting in a ticket. But Easy Systems RPG is a $300 purchase. That finally spurred him to do so, but is this a common issue?
I think the limit is 1000 packs or something, after that stuff gets... fubar.

For how long the Free assets are running? I mean, even if you go with only them you will cover a lot of your allowed storage.
I'm inclined to think that limit is an oversight, not putting into account huge spenders buying lots of assets more than once a day
Oh that...that is interesting to note. We may actually be over that point, even if we neve rplan to use them, we grab the free stuff every month.
There are 823 free assets as of now. Including the past For the Month, and it is 1k+.

I have submitted an asset for the marketplace,
it finally gets approved but needs two changes,
1) All static meshes assets must have a UV channel that is at least two. The only exception to this is if a static mesh is being used for particle effects. 2) With lightmap resolution, we view assets in lightmap density mode. If there’s excessive red, we fail this line. The goal is to have as many assets green as possible. Is there any danger of corruption or mishandling when importing an asset into UE5 from the marketplace, if said asset is not made for it? I'm talking about the option to import for the next compatible ver

that depends on the quality of the games vs the quality of the assets.
if both are high quality, that is good. if either of them isnt, it will reflect badly on the other. If both are bad quality, its bad, but then it doesnt matter as much.

Two things only you can answer.
1- Do they have any use to you ?
In other words, do you look at the textures and think to yourself "That looks good, I could use that for [insert thing here]" or think that you could save a lot of time trying to make materials for something, or think you could learn from them?
2- Is it really worth buying, for you ?
if all the answers to 1 above are 'no' then no, probably not. If any of the answers are 'yes' then... maybe. It's your money and your time, we can't decide if it's worth it to you.

can anyone recommend good sound FX packs for a darker themed RPG? ive bought a couple of sound FX packs but they are all a bit... hit and miss for me. Sound FX related to hitting things, so blood and sword and magic FX as well as menu sound FX for buttons and sliders and such

like my material pack is customizable, its only 15mb and has about 100 different results (i can explain on the last part if you want)
pricing is personal, look at what others with identical packs ask, and see if yours offers more/less quality/quantity and adjust accordingly.
thumbnails need to show what you are selling in one glance.

its a collection of middle eastern tiles, it has 10 different shape patterns and each of them has 12 different color pattern among some more customization so in general there will be 120 different variations all in one

If I purchased an VFX asset on marketplace which only support 4.27 and I want to use it in 5.0EA for commercial use, after migrated that asset from 4.27 to 5.0, does my license still work for my 5.0 project or not? Feeling confused with legal issues of using asset for commercial use.
Asset licence applies per user, not limited to one version.
The only thing you'd need to worry about is to be called as an "asset flipper" from using them as is, but that's avoidable if you choose assets that are consistent to your project's style.

Hello, I've a question about UE Marketplace free content that Epic Games makes available every month. Given a user redeems it does it stay permanently available to the person for download or just the month it was redeemed?
It is consuming a lot of disk drive space so I don't like having all summarized content wasting so much space ( I am not lucky enough to have more TB of disk space and Unreal projects are costly! )

In your .uplugin file, the “FileVersion” field should be 3, but in the submitted file it’s 4. This field is for the version number of the json format/schema used for plugins. It should not be incremented when a new version of the plugin is made. Increment the “Version” field instead.

It's very obvious this is images from artbreeder
But in artbreeder's terms of use, images created with it are Creative Commons CC0, so unless I'm mistaken it doesn't make a whole of sense to sell packs of images generated with it
CC0 means the asset is waived to public domain and can be commercialised.
Oh good to know, I had no idea it allowed commercialization
Licence allows for it, but ethics/morals may differ on the judgement.
Just the source code has to be exposed for free.
Assets (and project specific code) can still be closed source, but GPL warriors might wish those are free open source as well
Speaking of GPL, I'm still kinda baffled how the official UE Blender plugins are closed source and I have yet to see someone complain on it not in GPL because of bpy

I am looking to publish on steam and many there suggest that you create a second account so that your personal steam profile actions do not affect your project. Like if you gave a bad review to a game or got into an argument on a forum.

It would be a nice QoL feature to have "Update Available" as a filter for the Vault List allowing users to easily isolate which content packs need updating & select which ones they want to update as needed!

I will be honest -- the free market place assets were a major source of interest for me some years ago when I was making mods for an indie game.
Sometimes they would release somethings from the Dekagon studios guys and those assets were all incredible.
It renewed my interest in Unreal Engine.

As with all of Epics own content, it can only be used in Unreal Engine projects [content by content creators ie us, can be used anywhere etc]
I have seen the "flipper" label thrown at nearly any game that used a marketplace asset. People call PUBG an asset flip because some of their assets were purchasable. I think that label is unfair, dishonest, and stems from a group of curmudgeons that have a really toxic, naive view of game development as this easy, low effort thing.
I think there's a line and that line is very blurred and I think often size dependent you see a lot of individual game devs that will use assets and no one cares if used within reason as long as it's not an asset showcase with a minor in game play people don't mind. But on the flipside when you're a large dev like pubg and use a bunch of assets it just seems lazy
The Market place is there for a reason right and people should be able to use it but when you're whole game is just a simple shooter kit bashing assets that feels a bit cheap
As one of the earlier players of pubg, I think what they had made (as a game) was very original.
It was original enough to become the #1 game on steam and, arguably, lead to multiple AAA studios borrowing their gameplay design ideas.
PUBG then fell from their top spot as the "similar" games that borrowed some of their gameplay ideas executed a more improved design
But I'd say PUBG is a success storey of a company successfully leveraging market place assets to make a game.
If I remember correctly it was made by a pretty large dev team backed by ten cent I'm not saying it's not unique

One thing I do for source builds is just install the content to a dummy project and then copy over.
For example in my case i always like to do some cleaning, remove all the "junk" files i don't need and then migrate it to my project

then i saw this and immediately installed disk drill and recovered the uproject

The source of the issue has now been fixed. Users will need to completely exit and restart their launcher and it should resolve the issue 🙂

Try closing and opening launcher, go on marketplace, etc. Log in properly. Its one of those. I had similar issue. Sometimes I would just get some strange error.

Hello all, I keep getting this error when attempting to add the City Sample Vehicles to a UE5 project. I have UE5 (NOT EA or Preview) installed, and the project I am trying to add them to is also 5.0 (not converted from an earlier version). My OS is also supported by the supported platforms. Any ideas? (reinstall + restart did not work)

I purchased a looooot of archviz content as of late, cheap ones, and annoyingly expensive ones. and let me tell you, they all make a lot of weird mistakes in their meshes, textures, and materials. its furiating. I spend weeks optimizing it and reducing loads. went from 80gb to 9.8, and barely any visual detail changes.

Is there a way to "force" the Launcher to look for new marketplace versions?
My launcher keeps giving me v5.1.2 of Oceanology and telling me its the latest, but there is v5.1.3 that other people get when they download it (per the discord, not just the developer saying they released ).
So why would some people be able to get the new version and not other people?

I'm curious to hear from the more "pro" UE devs here if there's any plugins you swear by. There's so much stuff on the MP. I'm sure there are real gold nuggets there, but I haven't really had the time or inclination to go through and read/try the things out.
For example, I love Blueprint Assist. Just one keypress to organize my spaghetti into neat lines. Also, Autosize comments is awesome too.
Multi Objects Renaming Tool is handy when you want to prefix a bunch of assets. Don't use it a whole lot, but when I need it, it's a great convenience to have.

No, but at that point you can worry about players noticing the assets being the same across games, which is not that unusual anyway. (Games reuse assets from prev. instalments all the time)

Is it intentional for assets when installed via "Add to Project" are able to add files outside of a project's Content folder (ie: the root of a project) and also wipe out config files? I feel like there should be some kind of protected directories or something.

It's a bit pain in the arse to deal with, since they can override project settings
Though with source control, it's as simple as reverting the unstaged changes
I usually keep an extra project to add files from the launcher to & then migrate from there to the one I am actually working on - it isn't perfect but it helps reduce the risk!

Has anyone ever had an "Update Available" notification for MP products that come as full projects? Because I've noticed that many of those I own (and I have locally in my vault) have been updated to UE5 (and they're cars, so they're real updates, because Chaos), and I haven't had a single notification (no 🟠).
So now I guess I have to browse through my 200+ products daily, check which one are projects, and then check if they've been updated?

There've been a few established authors over time that's been delisted for a time, anyone know what's the typical reason? My guess is complaint that they haven't been supporting their product leading to a temporary unlisting, but I'm really guessing here...

Jesus, Epic approved some vehicles products for UE5 that still use PhysX, therefore making them absolutely unusable. I'm not sure who to be more disappointed by: the creator or Epic...

I don't think they check anything for file updates, leaving the fault to the creator
I've made a post on the forums about this issue, not sure anyone at Epic will read it though. I'm pretty sure they check for file updates, but I don't know if they do if you just change the compatibility, without updating files. I'd understand that it's a lot of work if they had to retest everything for each engine update, but maybe make an exception for vehicles and UE5? Because if a vehicle is marked as UE5 ready without a file update, you don't even need to test it to reject it 😉
And not to blame Epic over creators, but they managed to make a 40min video titled "Upgrading your UE4 Project to UE5" without once mentioning that PhysX is removed and Chaos is now default. That definitely won't help creators...

Yeah, I'm actually surprised by how low key the messaging on vehicles has been. The physics change has in most other cases been pretty transparent, but definitely not for vehicles
