it doesn't affect me much because my main product is free now, but it's pretty demotivating for releasing any new assets for sale

the vast majority of my sales always happened during sales
eg. in some places you can't just put something on sale 100% of the time
that probably makes sense, consumer law here is similar, but the periods are intentionally far enough apart that retailers can target both events in the real world

Might be a good thing honestly, the higher frequency of the free assets can keep the marketplace more regularly active. It also kinda make the free assets feel more valuable individually.

Depends on the plugin. If your plugin easily makes $5K every month on its own... this would be a bad deal... you'd be leaving a lot of money on the table...

I think maybe they should do a percentage of your last 6 months revenue or something percentage based. so that plugins that sell more and people want more can join...
I don’t think epic has the incentive to go that far imo. There are many who are fine with the 5k-7k for their fee, and epic likely just need some semi decent assets to frequently fill up the weekly free asset showcase.
It could also be beneficial to sellers freshly starting out and in need of a boost in exposure and community build up.

This thing confused me (must be just for the new rating system) but the written reviews are still there in their own tab.
They didn't transfer any rating if one had, for that product, <5 reviews :-(. That's why all products that had 1-4 reviews now have 0 ratings. The text wasn't tranferred at all for everybody. A huge mistake, imho. The new system ... I don't have any hope there will ever be one. 😠

afaik only stars will migrate, but you need at least 5 ratings
This month so far averages out to 1 sale per day for me, so that’s great. Some days I get no sale, but some days I get 2 sales to compensate.
I wish epic made our page view counts visible as a metric. It’s hard to optimize anything without any Analytics. Currently I’m relying on my YouTube videos Analytics for this.

So far, I haven't had any pro teir sales, and I worry the highr teir is confusing users and they are just not buying it.
The pro tier sales are really only aimed at a very small portion of customers. I would think maybe 1/25 people may fall under that category. So it's not so much customers being confused but just not needing it since they are under the income threshold and would rather pay less
I currently have my pro tier listed for only 5 or 10 bucks more than the personal license. I feel its more so there if potential customers would like to support the product a little more through purchasing the pro tier. I don't believe in having your personal and pro tiers so vastly different in price, as most people shopping on Fab are going to be below the income threshold required for the pro tier. Your products will be more "available" in a sense.
But that's just my way of looking at it. I'm sure everyone has their own reasoning for their prices

Our plugin was just updated also for UE 5.5 and the Fab shows the new available version, however it doesn't show up for installation in UE 5.5 inside the Epic Launcher. Has anyone experienced the same?

i have 3 questions:
- if i package a C++ plugin for FAB, can I use the build-in "packaging" functionality?
- is it fine if the packaged content is zipped in a folder called uAim which contains the following: - Content - Resources - Source - uAim.uplugin
- if the answer for 2) is YES, will Epic automatically generate the Binaries and Intermediate folders with their respective content when installing the plugin?
Yes you can use the Package functionality but double check the uplugin file it writes because it is not compliant with Fab
2 and 3 are correct, you don't need Binaries and Intermediate, Epic will recreate them for you

@undone valve Do you have more multi sale days on fab than you did the marketplace? Most days I sell 2-3 products on fab but on the marketplace I sold 1 product a day unless there was a sale event happening
Like today I sold 2 products and I’ve had several days this month where that happened. Fab seems to be better for sales than the marketplace was after the patches they did post launch
@hollow basin it’s only been a couple days since I started using the simplified emoji format for the store pages and sales have been a bit better on the products that have them. Maybe give it a try for some of your products

I feel like more people have holiday money that they are more willing to spend around that time of year. And doing a sale then is better for advertising (in my view)

I still look at the old one from the ue marketplace and not the new fab one. But the one I see always updates at midnight of Eastern Standard Time. I am guessing it's because that's the timezone of Epic's HQ
By removing it from the Vault and re-downloading it, did you get the 5.5 version as well? Because I have the same issue with our plugin not showing the newer version.

We do not allow executables or program installer files, and we do not allow archive formats except for .zip. The list below is not exhaustive, but here are some common examples of file types that are not accepted on Fab:

The issues fixed itself by logging in/out of the Epic Launcher and restarting it. Now I can see both versions and was able to install to 5.5 as well.
Plugins that rely on non standard third party DLL’s usually require you to autonomously download those DLL’s and store them in the plugin folder

Really? That's not mentioned in Fab's technical requirements, and I know I have a plugin with a DLL in Fab (and previsouly the Marketplace), and it's distributed no problem.

I was referring to custom dll's which are not distributed otherwise nor publicly available.
The DLL is hosted somewhere on GitHub, but I somehow doubt that Epic is doing any kind of checks on that (I'm not sure they have the repo link, but they definitely don't have the release tag). Given how much IP infringement there is on Fab, any type of safety check seems to be non-existent.
I also don't know how they could possibly verify a DLL which ships within a plugin, unless it is part of a public distribution and its hash can be compared with the included one. Otherwise it could contain any code, including malicious one.
I am sure they run it through a number of AV's but that may not be enough

They don’t need a new launcher, the current one works really well.
You don't have to scroll up by much to find example of why it's terrible. Scroll past pre-Fab and 50% of this chanel was people complaining that their stuff was missing from the launcher or that all products were mysteriously "unavailable". And personally, I'm not a huge find of "find the orange dot", but maybe that's just me.
Hey guys, is it me or, is the discoverability of Fab pretty underwhelming? Funny and very very sad; this hellish orange dot that caused me so much grief in the past (as in not knowing which one of my 2000 assets has just been updated) has no replacement! I still get it on the launcher every time an asset updates, even with fab!

Yeah you can copy it on a USB stick and move it that way. You can find your downloaded files in the cache data of the Epic Games Launcher

I initially made them 2.5x higher but wasnt selling anything so I changed it to same price and since then sales have been good, I think a lot of people complaining about sales fall off are pricing too high on their professional tiers
good control to see what % of sales qualify as pro (i'm sure it varies by product category but still helpful)
I have a product that I sell a quite bit higher for professional mainly because the bigger studios need a lot more customer service than an indie buyer. Instead of providing customer service to one person, you are providing it to an entire studio. My product is quite versatile and confusing if you don't look at any documentation (which some people dont) so to provide hours of customer support for zero extra money would stink

Yeah, I have been more careful but it was for a student college project, and they were respectful. But I don't like the idea that a big studio may require the same level of service and instead of optionally doing it, it would be mandatory
Yeah I'll probably do that system if it ever goes more than a week of 5-10 messages. I wouldn't charge anything though for things that may seem like a bug or error because that would set a dangerous precedent

I don’t see the issue here. It’s a larger studio requiring more support. why is this a problem and why should the seller be punished?
Plus, it’s a larger studio. The indies will be fine.
To a larger studio $1000 is less than a single employee’s salary.
Maybe ask that $4500 a month employee to build the same thing, see how long that takes/ delays the project

The greedy folks are the larger studios! Sellers are not trying to “punish” larger studios for their success. They are just trying to make a living too.
And the misconception here seems to be that larger studios can’t build these tools themselves. They can, they have the manpower, they have the resources.
They buy marketplace tools to save time and hit project deadlines. If paying $1000 saves you 6 months , is the $1000 really that much. By that time how far would your competitor be if they bought the plugin?
The only thing i don’t agree to is cheap to make assets costing that much, but either way who am i to say it should cost only $50 and not $500?

AAA studios are not buying your plugins Aubrey, they have staffs of 100s of people including full time engineers who program and modify the engine exclusively. You are punishing the indie dev who had a game that sold like 30k units and makes 3 grand a month off their game post launch month.
I don’t know of any AAA game I’ve played that used marketplace assets or plugins, the reason a game has a AAA budget is because they want everything custom and of the highest quality it can be. I don’t know of any plugin that would take a studio that has 20+ programmers 6 months to make with no work on anything else getting done.
If your studio has to shut down to implement steam SDK or a movie player for 6 months then that’s just bad management.
I'm pretty sure that Concord developers can't make these plugins within 6 months.

Also the seller is taking on a lot of the risk. If nobody buys the plugin, it's the seller that doesn't make any money. The AAA studio wouldn't (and frankly shouldn't) care that your plugin flops. Because we are taking on the risk of making something before they need it, it should be compensated that we took a risk in making the plugin. To be clear, I am not saying every plugin deserves to be bought, but the ones that are good deserve to be paid for the risk and time

In your publishing section of Fab you create the product.
Inside you define stuff like name..etc
Thrn you select the engine you support and inside you create a Version pack for that engine.
Individual for each engine version for code plugins.. or multiple versions per zip file for assets i guess.
Shipping both Source and asset file is recommended

How do I know which versions will be supported for my assets? They're mostly 3D models and textures, but I also created Blueprints for these assets to make them functional. How then do I figure out the UE versions that my assets would work for?
Generally it will be the version you made them in plus anything newer, though it's worth double checking in 5.x if you made it in 4.x
i think you can safely bet that if it works in your development version, and it works in the latest (5.5) then it will work everywhere in between as well

blueprints are sadly not backward compatible. you will have to recreate them in the oldest version of the engine you want your asset to be compatible with
UAssets in general are not backward compatible

I saw numbers on version popularity some time ago and people on 5 are generally on one of the more recent versions. Right now 5.3 is a pretty good target. But there's still a 4.27 audience that's worth supporting if it's not too much trouble

World Partition is very broken with the fab plugin enabled. You can't make them without disabling it first, then you can't build the level without disabling it, but if you disable it, any assets/decals you got from it will lose its parent material so long as it's disabled.

It always shocks me when people are still on 4.27, the performance difference is now better in 5.5 than 4.27 and you lose out on so many bug fixes and features by staying on 4.27.

The Fab/Marketplace rules are pretty clear that you can only include CC0 content but only for showcase purposes, eg. you can't just resell CC0 assets. This product is kind of on the edge. That said, I think repackaging CC0 items to make them more easily usable is a good thing and should be allowed.

If you used a random picture of a burger and someone identified it as a branded burger like McDonald's or Wendy's. Epic may have flagged it so that those companies won't complain about it later if its used inappropriately. That's my best guess

I don't eat at any fast food places so I don't know what the actual burgers look like of those places but those two places I named I was just using as examples. I know it's also a long shot but it was the best explanation I could come up with. There are also other signs in the pack which aren't as visible and it could be something on there which we can't see but it's just hard to know without more context

The sanctions from the bus stop pack have been withdrawn, but it's funny (no not at all) that my Bus Stop pack got sanctions, my Warning Sign Pack was also reported and sanctioned (mature content - luckily this was also withdrawn), but come on, terminating my Marketplace asset for a violation of the rules (first time) because of discriminating traffic signs is wild . At the moment I get 3 Sanctions/Month

Random question but how can I create the project for the new 5.5 game animation sample? The launcher only shows the 5.4 version and using the fab plugin in UE 5.5 to view the asset it doesn't say add/create project. It just says view in vault or launcher which both do nothing to help, it just restarts the loop of add via launcher/fab plugin 😂

Weird, I had to send it a support ticket because the review was flagging stuff they shouldn’t and they responded within 24 hours and told me they fixed the issue internally after my ticket and to resubmit for approval since it wasn’t my fault.
Maybe your ticket accidentally got deleted when the support member handling emails that day was cleaning their inbox or something. If it’s been more than 3-5 days then send in another support ticket and let them know it’s been a few days and you need help since it’s important
I used to work help desk for a bank and sometimes a ticket sent via email would get marked as read or deleted accidentally since we got so many

You need to clean up your uproject file and remove all plugins which are disabled and therefore not needed
You can edit it with a text editor like Notepad but make sure you preserve its structure

I don't think this is a scammy seller reselling their old stuff. Froyok does not work in unreal anymore, they moved onto creating their own engine and they seem to have a stable job at Adobe so they have no reason to do this. Is Epic Launcher acting weird on your end as well? When I try to install a plugin to UE, it shows like the UE version is not supported but I can see it is supported on the FAB page. Some plugins that are already installed on some engines are showing as not installed as well. Anyone found a workaround for this?
One example would be UDS. It shows that it's already compatible with even 5.5. But on the Launcher is looks like it's only compatible up to 5.3.
UDS works just fine for me. Try clearing cacheee? Maybe its only 5.4.3

Black Friday in the US is the 29th so there's plenty of time. But other stores and websites like to milk the holiday for at least 2 weeks, which is why there are some deals on other stores now
Sellers are also not supposed to reveal sale dates but if you scroll way up through the chat you may find some answers

is there a way to check if a packaged plugin will work on linux and mac without having to test it on these systems? the plugin itself doesn't use any special things, it's basically just a component. can i assume that it will work or will this be tested anyway by epics validation process?
Unreal engine is mostly the same across all platforms, only things that may different are third party sdks like steam
So it should work fine as long as it’s nothing crazy, the packaging tool will tell you if something won’t work usually

Hi guys, I've jsut started using quixel for my scenes, and since quixel moved to FAB, the way for downloading materials either became a hussle or I'm missing something. So far I need to download each surface material package, unzip, move to UE project folder, create a material each time. Is there a faster way to import quixel materials from fab to an existing UE 5 project? Thanks
Yes there is a fab plugin available in the vault.
But the materials from the plugin dont include displacement textures for some reason. So if you need those you have to manually download the material from the fab website.

You are searching for a 3d model from Sketchfab with the unreal marketplace filter, there should be more car packs that show up but remove the unreal engine filter and you get this
You should only use the unreal engine filter if searching for unreal specific products like code plugins or blueprints, if searching for 3d models turn it off

Typing the exact product name doesn't even find it. Unless you remove the Unreal filter, which... I mean the product is only compatible with Unreal, so 🤷
Oh scratch that, it's because the link I used to get to Fab had a custom sort in place (because, you know, the Most Recent sort doesn't actually sort by most recent). And for all further searches, the sort preference is kept. But since it's a custom sort, Fab doesn't know how to display it and displays nothing instead. Mystery solved 🙃

When I try to go to anything under the Publish section, it gives me the FAB Distribution Agreement. Which even if you click the checkbox on the bottom to agree and then accept, will just come back up. Is anyone else experiencing this?

fab may offer sellers bundling features with discounts for those who own parts of the bundle. this would be an amazing feature

So I got the verify working but I guess you can’t use text from image tools like apple had built into their OS to get the order ID and copy it in fab. I wonder if those tools add hidden characters or something

When I retyped out the code verbatim it worked but copying the output from the text from image tools didn’t work
not directly related to fab but why has epic done nothing with the water plugin since 4.26 when it was introduced. we are 7 engine versions nlater and its still in experiemental stage.
@ABAOProductions Sorry, Fab came in much hotter than we had realized prior to going live. Big improvements are in the works in all of these areas and will roll out over time in the coming months. Most of the back-end systems already exist and are in need of new UX.

The most infuriating part about this seems to be the absolute lack of details explaining the sanction, as well as the possible steps to take to solve it. I also receive sanctions, mainly for "Mature Content". And those products marked like that are absurd, e.g. I received sanctions because the product contains a beer mug, it's just MUG!

I uploaded a product recently but canceled my submission after like 5 minutes. Today I got a message from the fab team saying that changes are needed 💀 So their backend system also is buggy
Their system is very buggy and they are using ai and human intervention to automate things, my appeal got denied in 10 minutes.

I used to buy all sort of content from the store but knowing that this sort of things are happening and that no one are doing anything to stop it, I might stop getting stuff from here. new assets appear, but it seems to me that they are buried under others that were previously published, when creating a Listing you already occupy some position in the new assets
even though the asset is listed as "Draft"
so when creating a listing, it's best to publish it as soon as possible

Total value of the asset is 150, I gives the opportunity for small studios to achieve success by reducing the price to 30
if you think people will just get used to paying 5-10x the price for stuff then I guess you can try to wait it out but I dont think this is a temporary thing

I've seen some people set the price for personal at $30 and professional at $1,500
$150 for an asset that takes a month to create is really cheap for a large studio\
depends on the approach, I normally had sales of the professional version, even though the difference between personal and professional is $80-150
large studios tend to make stuff in house, you are punishing people who had a game that sold like 15k units on steam in the launch month and makes them 1-3k a month post launch month

I think something to keep in mind, is that majority of customers on FAB are hobbyist's and indie's. And as such, you would benefit a lot more if the pricing of your products reflect that

as ctrl pointed out above, most users on fab are not ubisoft, they are your hobbiest making games for fun or a ma and pa indie studio whose trying to start up their business

Assuming the $1500 asset (investment) is going to help you generate income, doesn’t it make more sense since the 65 inch will just depreciate
Ideally the licensing would reflect that assets are:
- For hobbyists, a creative tool and source of entertainment
- For commercial developers, an investment in future revenue
1500 dollars for 4-8 months of a person's work is about right. Because I assume that's roughly how much time he might have dedicated to this system.
The hit-driven nature of games means you often don't know before making your investment whether it's going to pay off. That's the hard part about up-front asset pricing. There just isn't a model right now which rewards asset developers for the revenue they indirectly generate
walmart should just charge 3 grand for a stick of butter then since you have to account for their distribution networks, manufacturing plants, the farming, employees, and rent.

Unreal/Steam get that via the royalties. But understandably that model hasn't been extended to assets. So the two-tiered license is Epic's best attempt (so far) at rectifying this

While this is a little trashy, I do think the implication is that they're checking if people actually want/enjoy this pack so they know if they should keep improving this one or work on the next one. Like they don't really want to add more content to a thing that people don't really want or might not really see since it's already fleshed out enough to meet their basic standards.

My only gripe with UDS is you are kinda stuck with its lighting solution. If you use most its features it worth it though, I use it for a day night cycle which would be difficult to do right without it
It would be nice if the creator of UDS makes alternate versions of the actor with modular parts
UDS is one of those things I feel like is gonna be horrible to split into modular parts now with how huge it is already

Hello Sourcers. I have a doubt about licenses for the assets Epic is giving free monthly. Might sound silly to ask but here is the thing... I'm just a solo dev with no income whatsoever yet so I was simply getting the Personal version of those assets, I felt it natural to do so but one of the assets this month has a Professional and an UEFN Reference Only version, which is definitely a 3rd type of license I presume, so that raised a doubt in me... can I buy a professional license even if I don't match the criteria of a professional licence or should i stick with Personal when applicable? I hope in a feedback on this matter. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
you can think of the personal tier as the discount tier. you get a discount if you dont generate enough revenue. Epic really could have made things a little more user friendly a. License Tiers. Content may be offered at different license tiers, and before completing a Transaction you may be required to select between a Personal - Reference Only tier, a Personal tier, and a Professional tier (each a "License Tier"). You are only eligible for a Personal - Reference Only tier or Personal tier if, at the time of the Transaction you, together with any controlling entity and other entities under common control with you, have not generated more than $100,000 USD in gross revenue from your commercial activity in the digital content industry in the last 12 months. For purposes of this calculation, revenue includes any advances received or other funds raised. If you complete a Transaction for a License Tier you were not eligible for at the time of purchase, you must, upon request, pay Epic the remainder of what you would have owed had you purchased a License Tier you were eligible for.
since you have to pay epic if you do manage to make enough, it seems smarter to get the professional one if its free. you can also YOLO and just get both

Is there a Vault Cache for plugins before they get installed into a project? I've got a plugin that the author updated to 5.5 but my launcher isn't registering it as eligible to install into 5.5. I've resynced it and restarted it a few times. Deleted the normal vault cache and the launcher web cache. Even verified the 5.5 install. Other supported plugins have been installing fine.
For "Complete Projects" and regular asset packs removing local files/from vault cache and redownloading has fixed it. This feels like a cache issue like these.
The problem I'm seeing here is that plugins aren't stored in the vault cache and are likely saved somewhere different.

Maybe Epic finally decided, that FAB isn't stable, finished or nearly working as intended?
it means they will show us how fab works, give us an idea of how much stuff they have planned that wont work on first release, and then ignore any of the complaints to fix it. also a special demo of new expensive quixel assets.

UDS Has rain and Snow, yes. But EasyRain and EasySnow are dedicated tools that offer a lot more granular control over the look and positioning. UDS is a great tool, I use it myself all the time. Though it has its limitations with the weather stuff. That's why I made these tools, gives the artist a lot more control more easily. It's normal for a dedicated tool to look better/more control, compared to a tool that does "everything' if that makes sense?
Thanks for the feedback. Epic is definitely not clear with this. From what you showed up there it doesn't found smart buying a professional license if I'm not matching such tier, but maybe I'm understanding the whole thing wrong.
EasyRain works great for games. EasySnow has two blueprints, one for cinematics, one for realtime/games.
Before the official launch I publicly expressed {even right here} my concern about prices going up and off the roof, in worse scenario, even going completely outta control becoming not-solo-devs' friendly. When I look at some assets almost touching the 1k I feel all my concerns had substance! I've had a decades long creative career {even refusing work I felt wasn't gonna be paid as much as the real value of my projects} so I understand and value people's work more than ever so I'm not complaining, I'm just praising for more variety and, in genera, about keeping Unreal Engine the fair opportunity for even the solo dev or the start-up studio to become successful. Right now, when I look at FAB I feel that mood is changing and I still hope I'm actually wrong.
It sounds like your concern is more with the creators charging huge prices, and less with Epic themselves. I do think the 100k limit is a bit of a low threshold, but it is up to the seller to decide what their product is worth. As a seller myself I am glad there is studio/professional pricing, because it was honestly a bit ridiculous that a studio can buy a cheap asset, and use it inhouse by hundreds of people as a result. It's not an ideal setup right now but it is definitely a step in the right direction. No one is forcing anyone to buy those extremely expensive assets, and I'm glad creators are charging what they feel their time is worth.
Sure, thousands of dollars for a tool might seem expensive, and I'm sure some sellers are way way overcharging.

You are correct. Once you have the license your future revenue doesn't matter. So there's no impetus to buy a pro license.
This has been (and still is) communicated poorly because every day I see multiple people confused.
If one person is confused: They should have read more closely
If tens of thousands of people are confused: It should have been communicated better
The root of the problem is that it's structured as two licenses rather than just two prices. People expect different licenses to have different benefits.

I got the email about [redacted] and it also clarifies the rules/reason for not allowing consecutive sales: "The above rules are aimed at boosting pricing transparency for consumers on Fab following various pricing laws, including the EU Price Indication Directive." Weirdly you all got the email before me last time and now I feel like I am one of the first to get this one
Totally agree. Since I know you are one of the biggest unreal engine names on youtube, I am curious if you are flooded with people asking for support everytime you publish a product especially those who are now forced to buy the studio/professional license, and are asking questions on behalf of everyone in a studio
Makes totally sense, would you say that easy rain and easy snow work well with UDS together?

There was several times I had to buy 4-5 copies of a single unity asset for my team. No stress on worrying about revenue/whatever.

you should be able to have pattern recognition, if you constantly see a product on sale everyday of the year then its obvious thats not actually a real sale. if its your first time seeing the product then it doesnt matter
we couldnt refund them because epic games fab support asked us to contact the seller which we did and seller is ignoring

Professional license was probably selected, otherwise you are the unluckiest customer with the seller just coincidentally changing the price as you were buying. As a seller we have no way of a bait and switch or knowledge of when people will buy products
I can't speak to how effective the refund team is but it is my understanding that if the seller doesn't respond for 1-2 weeks you can override the refund process and the fab team can do it directly
They hold on to our revenue for an entire month for that purpose
Epic wasnt kidding when they said virtual shadow maps with everything using nanite provides the best results for performance. I just converted everything in my scene to nanite since it supports almost everything now and enabled virtual shadow maps and saw a 20fps bump
now my scene is above 60fps on target hardware(around ps5 level)
now UE 5.6 or 5.7 just needs to make chaos physics multithreaded and have better performance
physics actors are the big issue with in game performance since I have to use them for traffic
its crazy how far unreal 5 has come, I remember nanite was extremely limited and had major performance pitfalls in 5.0

You don't have to purchase the professional tier if you make more than 100k after purchase. It's only if you are currently making more than 100k

No, it’s calculated at time of purchase. You are not gonna be held accountable in the future for purchases you made in the past
Also I recommend against crediting asset makers in your game, it just makes you look like you took a bunch of shortcuts in the eyes of a gamer. It’s not a requirement on fab to credit makers and I personally as a seller would prefer you not credit me for two reasons 1. Gamers don’t buy assets so no extra sales come from it 2. If your game is bad some gamer might blame me and review bomb my product.
That’s actually an incredibly useful bit of info. I always thought that (perhaps erroneously) that folks love getting credit for stuff. Kinda like when you use someone’s art on a website and credit them. So originally thought about including credits for all the plugins I was using. But you raise some very valid points.

If you want to credit asset makers just ask them first, imagine if the day before credited their assets that would be horrible PR for the sellers of those assets. People found out through data mining but not everyone saw those posts exposing them
We get paid when you purchase the assets so what you do with them afterwards is your prerogative. Home Depot doesn’t ask to be credited when a lawn company uses a mower bought from them, that’s how i see it at least

No fortunately not! I think my tools are so simple to begin with, and I like to think they are documented well enough that people usually figure it out. I'll get random emails from extreme beginners who don't understand something basic sometimes but for the most part, support has been fairly minimal, thankfully
How is it a scam? Their refund policy is the same as it was on the original marketplace. Refunds on digital products are not subject to the same refund laws as other fungible items. You have 14 days for a refund, but if you claim that download, you waive your right for a refund, which is why you need to contact the seller directly. This is pretty much the case everywhere, even in the EU which has the strictest consumer protection laws. Otherwise it opens it up to far too much abuse. People buying digital items, downloading them, and claiming a refund while still having the download. This is nothing new to FAB. Not sure why the pitchforks are coming out about this.
It is different on something like Steam, where you buy the game, you can get a refund. But then you don't have access to the game anymore when you do. And even then, you can't have played longer than X amount of hours. That is not the case with assets you download. Once downloaded they are locally stored, no way to "give it back" so to speak.

Technically on steam you still have an access to the game files through windows explorer after refunding, usually only AAA studios will setup some form of ownership verification. 99% of indie games you can buy, refund, and play for free. It’s scummy but you can do it
I had my game pirated on launch so I now enforce ownership verification through the platform SDK(except on ps5, they don’t have piracy issues)
You do lose your license to play the game though, which is technically piracy

Yeah I agree with you on that, PlayStation had the same policy. Refund available for 14 days until you download it and play then it can’t be refunded. I think that’s fair

I’m one of those people, if they won’t apply it unilaterally then it doesn’t help me. If steam can let you demo indie games for free even when a demo isn’t provided then it’s not unilaterally applied.
I’m against all forms of government regulation even if it will benefit me personally with the exceptions of rules against violence like murder laws, theft, etc.
Epic games store is at fault for the risk free demo policy too
With most indie games being between 1-5 hours long it primarily hurts them, AAA studios have the budget to cram in 10s of hours of content into the game

I call it a risk free demo policy but I’m referring to the “play for half the games length then return it for literally any reason under the sun” basically make it a mandated demo policy. Oddly enough epic games store users don’t really use it this way but steam users do

Because the EU states no refunds if the game/digital download has been claimed. Steam is just being benevolent. ( I dont actually know, havent looked into anything about that topic before)

I don’t remember the exact reason but I remember them getting in trouble for having no refund policy and it being a controversy. I’m not against refunds, I’m against refunds disguised as mandated demo policies. I should not be able to buy a pair of jeans, wear them for a few months, then bring them back and get a refund just because I got bored of their look. Exceptions like poor performance if the recommend specs lie are fair but “I got bored” or “I don’t like it” isn’t fair reasons.
Oh 100%. I definitely agree with you. Anything digital should not be able to be returned IMO. You buy a pair of new shoes, even if you just wore them outside one time, if there's a scuff, the store won't accept the return.
Yes it SUCKS if you bought an asset on fab, and it turned out to be not what you wanted, or it left you disappointed. You have the asset now, it is up to the buyer to do their due diligence beforehand. I've been there before, paid good money for something only to feel let down.
I’m glad we can agree on that, there are exceptions for sure. I’ve played games that say they recommend a 2070 GPU(which I have) but the game has major issues with that hardware(looking at you starfield). That kind of thing mandates a refund or constant crashes that hinder progression/product use
Which is why I think it is great that you can contact the seller to express your discontent. Usually most sellers will be understanding and give you the refund anyway. I have done it plenty of times when someone has shown disappointment.
