My first impression: Very intriguing. I like Instagram's simple UI style, and seeing it applied to a Twitter-like app is actually really nice. It feels very fast and easy to use. So far the community is good, but it just launched yesterday so we will see how long that lasts. I joined because I am interested to see how it develops, and because I use Instagram to promote my music.

I have read a few interviews with the developers as well as the Instagram CEO. It sounds like they see this as a risky but worthwhile experiment, so it's intentionally launching bare bones. They have plans to support ActivityPub in the future, which is interesting.
