I had a similar issue as mentioned above with the "database migration failed" message.

I have an antivirus called AVG which has ransoware protection on it. I think the ransomware protection was blocking paradox launcher from accessing the documents folder.

So i added paradox launcher v2 to the exceptions list in the antivirus. This didn't change anything.

I then added paradox launcher from C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.10.1 to the exceptions list. This worked and the launcher worked as it should.

The problem probably has to do with ransomware protection inn antiviruses. Most antiviruses probably gives you the ability to add exceptions for certain programs."

Ive done the following:
Uninstall/reinstalled the games and DLC. No effect
Downloaded and installed C++ AND . NET - No effect
Rebooted and updated my computer - No effect.

What e;lse can I do?

Steam> Right click on HoI4> Local Files> Verify Integrity of Game Files

Then do a restart of your pc and then try again and see if the game works

If you have the MSI Gaming App or Rivatuner installed, disable it as it clashes with this game.

@dense crypt I got it to work, I think it was my VPN? Either way, Its running very sluggishly. It runs fine when paused but playing is a slog. Infantry dont move to attack or anything even though other animations are working fine.

It might be an issue with the launcher. Since iirc reinstalling the game doesn't delete/reinstall the launcher. You aren't using any mods I assume? And what are your pc specs? Since it might be crashing because of those

5- Restart your pc

Is there any way to fix checksum error other than doing a clean reinstall, I've had to do it for every player in every multiplayer game I've played and all my friends have to reinstall just for a chance to get it right. we have tried verifying integrity of game files, clearing cache, launching from no mods, double checking that mods are the same when we do try to use mods, and everything results in "host is using a different version of the game" and yes we are on the same version of the game avalanche 1.12.6 do not ask that

I have The Microsoft Store version of HOI4, is there a way to mod the game through that? I tried going to the website through the launcher but it downloads a file, and the mod never shows up.

You have to put it in the Mod Folder, if I remember correctly it's located in the Documents Folder of Hoi4

Now that I know what they are i left them on. I think the trouble is the setting doesn’t tell you what the symbols are and when you just have infantry it’s just an x so it looks like a problem. Once you see more of them it makes sense

Then do a restart of your pc and then try again and see if the game works

also do those things if necessary:
Add HOI4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it also to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

If you have the MSI Gaming App or Rivatuner installed, disable it as it clashes with this game.

Because frames are handled by the GPU while the game itself is run by the CPU, as far as I know
