It isn't so terrible in terms of battery drain. I did some power measurements on the 80HE, and with LEDs off it pulls around 130mA. If you toss a 4000mAh battery in there that's around 30h active on time. The Q1 HE we have has that size battery, and it needs charging about once a week.

It would be def better having 1 PCB where you can choose between normal Spacebar or Split Spacebar. Gaming wise a Split Spacebar makes def sense but spending that much Money just to try and be disappointed is what makes me think twice about getting one
