Does anyone tried to make a layer under keycaps to make lower max key press? I kinda used to my laptop flat keyboard and i want to bring that feeling to wootingk keyboard. Yes i know i can enable rapid trigger and 0.1 actuation point but what about adding layer under keycap that make max key press from 3mm to 2mm for example?

I am asking the same question to bing copilot and found people using o-rings. I'm worried that my keycaps will jump out of place though if I use it. I tried to use some rubber material I cut out with sissors a few minutes ago and it made the keycaps unstable and they jumped out of their sockets. I want to reduce the travel with 2mm

2 o rings on my firs keyboard was fine but on second one it was too much but still usable and i didnt try it on wooting
And still o-rings are not the thing that really made it lower travel time, there should be layer right under keycaps

You could try and do rubber stops under the stem rails

But youd need to cut the stops yourself

There are different hardness on materials for the o-rings. 40a is like an eraser, 70a is like the sole of a shoe. I just learned this an hour ago so anyone with more info, feel free to help out. My issue is my counter strafes in cs are a lill wobbley because of the max travel beeing so deep.

Another thing to check out is lower profile keycaps.

Has anyone tried zenaim on wooting keycaps or any keycaps that has lower travel distance?

You can use different switches that are manufactured by Outemu. Gamakay’s Silent Phoenixes would have a dampened bottom out (so they are rather quiet). Or you could use plain Outemu pinks which are dirt cheap on AliExpress.

Take off the keycap (with a keycap puller or your fingers). Take out the switch (with a switch puller) then open the switch with a switch opener (if you’re using Lekkers, you don’t need to open them as they are open bottom switches so you can just put the washer in from the bottom).

Np. Technically you can make them less wobbly but it’s so tedious you’re better off getting more stable switches. I think a switch puller should be included depending on when you bought it.

Yeah, a 2mm washer reduces the travel by 2mm (a tiny bit less for Lekkers technically because they rest on the PCB rather than on the bottom housing of the switch itself). These are ABS.

Wouldn’t work. Because the travel of the switch is already limited, the O-Ring doesn’t get squished between the top housing of the switch and the bottom of the keycap thus not doing anything at all. You could grab some silicone washers as well, which will dampen the sound but aren’t great for stability as they’re squishy. :)

Nah, that’s not a problem you can have with washers. With O-Rings in between the keycap and stem, it can cause the keycap to not seat fully on the stem and thus pop off during use.
