The difference between these 2 are the mounting styles, tempest layers, and the switch pads/PE foam

recording 9 is burger mounted with 2 layers of tempest and PE foam mod

recording 7 is gummy o'ring mounted with 5 layers of tempest and Poron switch pads

if you're noticing the white build up then you're over lubing (Its ok to have a little of the white build up not a big deal)

and do three swipes on both sliders

Probably pan head over flathead. Flatheads usually have a taper from head to shaft whereas pan head has the material above so the shaft is completely straight

i personally prefer only using those if i were to use tray mount

since steel plate is already making the typing feel stiff

But the flipside is custom keyboards are boring to build because inherently they sound good; not all but more often than not they do sound and type nicely imo.
At least with the 60HE you pretty much have to get your hands dirty, which I think makes it more interesting and rewarding. I'll reserve final judgement once the softer places are available.

Rocky was talking about the tape mod potentially causing erronoeous key actuation issues. It has nothing to do with using painters tape, its the fact that some users who tape mod have had issues that were resolved when taking the tape off. He believes (as do I) that by applying the tape to tightly might cause the PCB to flex slightly and that causes issues.

I only know the overarching concept of how the switches work but the part that let's them do their magic is the magnet, not any wired circuit. They observe the change in the magnetic field to detect the key press/release.

and 1.5mm to the pc plate thick enough for the plate not to "flex"
after all it shouldnt affect the sensor since its the same thickness

Yeah but the main thing I'm wondering is if it needs to click into the plate for stability or if the switch will not work altogether. Is there any circuit that must be connected from the switch to the PCB or is it just the magnet?

Good point, it would. Let's say for the sake of this hypothetical though we had some nuts custom plate that would hold the switches instead of the PCB. Would the inputs still be read?

In theory yes, I dont know what the maximum distance is but its designed around a specific offset. The board does recalibrate every switch each time you power it on, but if you changed that distance much I think you'll find there are tons of problems.

I think this idea of using an ultra thick PC plate with a plate mounting system for the switches is highly impractical, I don't see myself trying to design this because it would be prohibitively expensive when I can just go with a steel plate. But I've seen people pay out the ass for expensive mods that only have an acoustic benefit sooo who knows maybe the market for the Wooting Thicc Boi plate exists lmao

You said it was an offset in the firmware that gets recalibrated every power-on. Is there also a base offset it starts with or if I raised the switches with the hypothetical thick plate would the calibration account for it?

Or is the issue moreso that at any distance beyond the standard spec of the boards the hall effect sensors start to lose accuracy?
