Hey. I'm sick of my current corsair icue setup, so I'm thinking about building a 100% DIY keyboard wit halleffect switches and other custom features. For the HE Switches I'm taking inspiration of already existing HE Keyboards. Are there any recommendations of which halleffect sensor I should use and what would be the best way of interfacing it?

bright smelt
vagrant pagoda
#

Nope

#

Reading the sensors is a ton of work

#

They are pretty noisy

#

Especially once you add all the multiplexers

bright smelt
#

Hm. Ether way I'll definetly add hotswap sockets, so I could use standard switches

vagrant pagoda
#

How

#

There isn't enough room for the hall effect sensor and pins for a normal switch

bright smelt
#

I saw it on a different HE Keyboard, don't remember the name

vagrant pagoda
#

The "switch" on a lekker is nothing more than a magnet on a spring

#

The sensor is on the pcb

#

Right in the way of normal switch pins

#

You'd also have to have two different entire keyboard worth of electronics and traces to make that work.

bright smelt
vagrant pagoda
#

The sensor is on the bottom with the LED on the top

#

So you need north facing normal switch layout to use the same led

#

Which puts the pins where the hall effect sensor goes

pale sigil

For specific reasons and this being one of them.

#

I need a new chair too which I'm working on.

I guess I'd ask this here, does every feature on the wooting keyboard work on linux? (with the appropriate software)

ashen spindle
#

Yes

cursive summit

It's Linux, so nothing works

fair gull

no software needed for features. but our software works on any OS

all features run on the keyboard itself to be as OS agnostic as possible

astral haven

our web configurator just needs any form of Chromium and the OS to allow chromium to access USB devices. thats all the requirements

fair gull
# potent bramble Pretty much any game that is "better on controller" because of analog controls w...

so there is one big issue with analog keyboards like ours and thats simply that games dont like mixed input often. the issue is that your keyboard will still send digital keys (unless configured not to) and then most games either freak out by lagging or the UI just changes between controller/kbm all the time. For GTA5 specifically you will need separate walking/driving/flying profiles as they all map differently to the keyboard

pale sigil
#

Feesync premium with gsync compat is what I'm after

#

VA has it's issues

astral haven
#

it looks substantially better than ips or tn

ashen spindle
#

The newer gen Samsung VA yeah the older shit is horrible for games due to smear

astral haven
#

only advantage of ips is viewing angles

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

I’ve never even thought smear to be possibly this bad till I tried one VA ultrawide from gigabyte before it got the qdoled

#

Returned it like 2 days later

astral haven
#

the other thing to consider tho is that va has 3x the contrast

#

if you use the high black modes, you can throw away the contrast and get it to be faster

#

but you cant sacrifice speed on the tn or ips to get more contrast

bright smelt
vagrant pagoda
#

Yes I told you I knew what it was

bright smelt
#

oh sorry dint see that response

lyric hatch
#

Well apart from the money in your bank acc

astral haven
#

and durability and brightness

#

and text clarity

#

oled also consumes substantially more power

lyric hatch
#

Eh that's more of an issue with earlier OLED models at least the brightness and text clarity

#

These new MLA WOLED panels are greatly improved in both aspects

astral haven
#

oled also has issues with ALR

lyric hatch
#

And VA has issues with screen flickering at lower refresh rates and dim viewing angles

astral haven
#

large viewing angles are a downside for monitors

#

and what are you talking about flickering?

lyric hatch
#

The expensive VA panels from saumsung have issues with flickering at lower hz

astral haven
#

oleds cant do low refresh rates at all

lyric hatch
astral haven
#

oh yea thats just freesync in general

#

thats a chip bug not a panel issue

lyric hatch
#

Also most good VA panels are stuck on crappy curved displays

astral haven
#

thats personal preference

#

and at least for gaming and desktop usage, curved is better

#

at least by objective metrics

lyric hatch
#

If you like having multiple monitors it looks trash

astral haven
#

i have multiple monitors, it works great

#

you do have to be careful to match radius or use flat panels on the sides but its actually pretty fantastic

lyric hatch

I use blender and photoshop pretty regularly so I'll give it a massive pass

astral haven

getting any oled under ~20k for media creation is pretty yikes

astral haven

do you really think you are on that level?

getting anything with abl as a beginner is a real bad idea

#

lyric hatch
#

Yeah clearly you never seen the new MLA panels

#

There is no white issues

astral haven
#

do you know what abl is?

#

and the issues are with anything that isnt pure white

#

at least with QD you dont have to worry about your pixels oversaturating and turning white

#

ionstar also was showing off a panel that had less than 20% abl and it was over 1k nits
it was only 27 inches but for content creation thats well more than enough

lyric hatch
#

Yeah I'm not that worried about ABL, QD also seem to have much worse longevity at least in RTINGS testing

astral haven
#

read the update

#

qd even without compensation still manages to be relatively ok, and as soon as you turn on the compensation cycles, it cleans right up just like every other oled

#

holy shit its much worse than i thought

ashen spindle

for my use it's by far more than I need dogekek

someone posted the graph here a while ago

the vast majority of jobs created are in supporting industries

also also this was a bill that passed, which means that congress had to approve it, and considering the makeup of congress now, nothing can pass without being bipartisan

ashen spindle

yeah its a lot of money but its fun how so much of it is loands not grants

astral haven

eh a low interest loan is basically a small grant

ashen spindle

if the business works out yes

astral haven

with interest rates being what they are now, the grants are actually pretty huge

balmy vector

This in general is honestly super interesting to me. Dunno why

astral haven

10b of loans for 1 year is worth 700m of interest
over 5 years its 4B at current rates...

intel would probably never take a 7% loan, so make it more like 5%, so ~2.8B

A month is nowhere near enough lol

Shit like taskbar are highly likely to burn in over a few months

#

Like, these icons would 100% burn in unless you choose for the taskbar to hide itself, which I don't like that much

ashen spindle
#

Wow almost like that’s the reason he’s doing more than one month and it’s just the 1 month update

I hate snaps

#

someone lost 490grand using one of the fake wallet apps .-.

#

and Canonical took down the snaps but then the VERY next day, they were uploaded again under a different account

#

Snap Store

  • Proprietary Server hosted by Canonical
  • NO human is involved with the app verification process
  • No security checks involve humans looking at apps uploaded to the server
#

Why is Canonical trying to make all Ubuntu users use this shit?

#

Just because they seem to hate Flatpak for some reason?

#

This is more incompetent than Manjaro

halcyon moss
#

Flatpak has the same issue

wheat plume
#

Flatpak at least is human moderated

#

any app you upload there musst be inspected by a person

#

or multiple

#

and the server is not proprietary

#

you can host your own if you wanted to

ashen spindle
#

if you handle multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars and you already use linux but cant do basic shit like doing checksum comparison or anything, uhhhh yeah that's going to be a big part of your own fault imo

wheat plume
#

nah, the problem is Ubuntu, by default on the new Ubuntu versions, you cannot install apps via anything other than Snap if you dont use command line, even a lot of apps installed via apt in command line are redirected by the system to install the snap version instead

#

so no

#

I dont blame the user

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

yeah if I want to joke around and by two stock options for 500$ perhaps

wheat plume
#

^
and that even using apt via command line forces the snaps versions of most popular apps cause Canonical be like that .-.

ashen spindle
#

if you deal with 500k I call that gross negligence on the user

wheat plume
#

they are a cryptocurrency user, probably not that smart :/

astral haven
#

i mean it is but there is some responsibility on the other side

wheat plume
#

most of it yeah

ashen spindle
#

big part of your own fault
did not say they are the only part at fault

#

and if you get to half a mil I would argue unless you get that from being trustfund baby who made 1 mil to half a mil, I don't think they are as stupid as most crypto bros

astral haven
#

i mean it doesnt take much brains to pump and dump, and if you do that a few times you can make that kind of money even starting off with a standard few grand in the bank

#

Wait, is this big jump in price from a bunch of institutions buying some so that they can sell options for this?
Options institutions can buy ipos right?

marsh glade
#

All it takes for price to jump from one value to another is for a single contract to be traded at the new price

#

So no, it has nothing to do with individuals, groups, or institutions buying

astral haven

whether that is 36m$ or 36m shares, its not just "a single contract"

smoky frigate
astral haven
#

nice, now win and then go after microsoft and google

marsh glade
astral haven

and it executed at a price $15+ higher than IPO why

#

considering ipo was yesterday?

marsh glade
#

Because that was determined to be the price at which to open

astral haven
#

that is a what not a why

#

im asking why

marsh glade
#

I can speculate as the reasoning behind that, but the only sure truth is what price has printed

astral haven
#

ok so speculate or dont, not answering the question while pretending to really annoys me and youve done that multiple times

marsh glade
#

The vague and generally useless, but accurate, answer is because the movement of price is a tool by which to encourage individuals to place orders on the books; whether pending orders to execute at market after price goes above or below any given level, or as a limit order to fill as liquidity providers offer price beyond the limit price

#

Simply put: manipulation

#

But you'll him and haw at the idea the markets are controlled to the cent, and that's fine. Feel free to keep searching for a narrative that you can apply after the fact to make sense of what price has already done

but i didnt ask how markets book prices

Cotton duck (from Dutch: doek, "linen canvas"), also simply duck, sometimes duck cloth or duck canvas, is a heavy, plain woven cotton fabric. Duck canvas is more tightly woven than plain canvas. There is also linen duck, which is less often used.

Not usually, traditionally it's just a sorta stretchy plastic, but that seems to be changing, probably because customer buy it expecting it to be like the Duck/Duct tape on tv
It looks like since "Duck Tape" has become a brand other manufacturers called their versions duct tape

Even though it's not used for ducting. Really the naming of this tape seems weird

astral haven
#

yep, ducting these days usually uses aluminum tape

Even when Duck tape was invented it wasn't used for Ducting or even ||taping ducks together||, it was used for shoes (though this was a super primitive form of it), then a more modern version was produced for WW2

2: Had problems with 3600CL18 as expected then underclocked first to 3200, then to 3000 due to random crashes and bluescreens.

All of this took a ton of time already. Downloading games before had a ton of crashes and errors which led me to lower the ram clock hard. Also had corrupt files after updates and stuff... tweaked around and hoped everything is fine...

3 days ago I downloaded Hogwarts legacy to my D Drive (ssd 2tb) while playing Manifold garden. it crashed 2 times. I checked the files and after the repair all seemed fine. But for some reason while playing Hogwarts it crashed pretty much once per hour due to "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found"
We installed the newest bios and chipset drivers. Ran tests and ran it at 3200cl18. I installed Horizon today (120gb) on my C-Drive (M.2) without any issue. It seemed like the updates might have helped or that the D ssd is not keeping up with the timings or interfering or sth.
I then played Destiny for an hour and had a crash again with "vlddmkm cannot be found"
I then updated the NVIDIA driver which caused blue screen with „Stop Code Memory Management“ implying that the Ram is causing issues. Windows Ram diagnostic scan said sth is wrong with my hardware and I should contact the producer.

#

So its the ram!!!
Problem solved...
not...

I put in my old memory I used for 4 years normally 3000cl15 again, played hogwarts and again, after 1 hour, crash with "nvlddmkm cannot be found"
However, windows scan says with the old ram everything is fine…

My PC says its the RAM, but the old one has the same issues. BIOS and Chipset updates didnt help. Cruicial Storage Executive says both SSDs are fine. Its not just Hogwarts its also Destiny. Sometimes even Firefox tabs crash...
like...

And yes I ran windows scans and somtimes they say sth is corrupt and then fixed it.
If it was defect ram it would make sense, but the same error came up on my old ram...

My next assumption would be the new ram is defect and also destroyed the driver

Have you tried different RAM?

Yh, we are running out of ideas… when I installed everything last Christmas we had a ton of problems. Memtest86 had an error after 10 minutes but no more errors for a total of now 7 hours…

A game like Hogwarts Legacy is pretty prone to crashing tbh

My bet is on Windows clashing with Nvidia driver - try to turn off Fast Startup in Windows, power cycle PC, fully remove all drivers, power cycle PC, install them again, and power cycle again
Fresh Windows installation might also help

I mean from what you're saying it could be a lot of things... you'd have to test individual parts

#

i.e. your storage, your GPU

#

You say that a scan is finding corrupt data somewhere, there could be an issue with your storage device

still loom
#

SSD

#

From what you're saying there's indicators it could be the storage... i.e. files not being able to be found, corrupted files found

#

Or data within files

# still loom I really don't see AI dying any time soon tbh 😅

Nvidia is making bank on AI, but not that much bank. You gotta compare profit to share price ratio
And I know it doesn't need to match 100%, but Nvidia is going to have increasing competition from AMD, Intel, Amazon, IBM, and about a dozen other smaller companies making their own AI accelerators

gleaming oxide
#

Yh, we had the C as suspect because of that and the D because the games when installing to that also crash

#

Crucial software said they were in good health btw

still loom
#

That has to be the main driving force behind the increase in market cap

mild dome
#

It's also a good driving force for bubble formation

#

Like I am not saying it has to pop now, but at some point someone is going to say "This isn't worth THAT much" and it'll crash

still loom
#

I mean the same thing can be said for GPUs, right? Nvidia will have competition for market share because of their price to performance ratio

#

But it hasn't changed it much

mild dome
#

the GPU market has slimmer margins, Intel only jumped in because they saw the AI craze coming

still loom
#

But.... will it is the question

#

The constant improvements in AI and how that will explode over the next 10 years says you can also point to it and say it won't burst

mild dome
#

Like Margins in enterprise markets are crazy, especially when everyone wants you chip, however once again AMD has revealed their accelerator, Intel will be showing off something soon, Amazon and Google already have their inhouse solutions

#

Do you know what a bubble is?

umbral heron
mild dome
#

Cause it sounds like you don't. Read up on the craziness of the dot.com bubble and you'll see the AI bubble is just as crazy
It's not that AI isn't a useful tool, it's that investors are jumping on a bandwagon for technology they do not understand

ashen spindle
#

The bubble will pop if VC funds dry up and you can’t monetize it, in-house solutions for google or Amazon are irrelevant because it’s such a small part lol

That article correctly says there is demand so the price of the stock makes sense but if the demand isn’t there anymore he also points out it will drop

mild dome
# still loom That's an opinion but it's pretty much factual that AI plays a large part in mos...
"However, investors should be aware of the lack of a margin of safety and Nvidia's ongoing need to exceed expectations to sustain its current valuation. If something goes differently than planned — such as more intense competition leading to a significant decline in market share — there will also be a drop in Nvidia's stock.

So basically "It's not a bubble, but if it wobbles, it'll fall hard 7529_KEKW

I'm not saying it can't burst and drop heavily 😅

#

But it has a good base

I am just pointing out the article kills it's own point ||And also has a disclaimer pointing out the person writing it might be financially motivated to make you believe the article's title||

What ita difference 80he vs 60he

It's just covering itself by saying of course it can burst

Because anything can

Just different formfactor

It really seems like you don't understand what a bubble is. Well good luck

It will be extremely hard for them

They might be able to push out similar performance with a tremendous effort but will the efficiency be anywhere near as good? Likely not for a long time

Won't happen any time soon anyway, but sure one day

And even for them to get that price to performance ratio the energy efficiency is off

#

uh no, mi300x is way ahead of what nvidia showed of as "never done before" hardware

#

what they currently do in dGPU for gaming is something else

#

and what the upcoming 2 die blackwell product has is essentially something that amd did with mi250x, just a little bit better
