Doom 1 (and sometimes 2) had many attempts at suspense such as much of the soundtrack being atmospheric, flickering lights, lots of dark corners in later episodes, surrealist level design, and the whole aliens influence

If I don’t laugh at every joke in a comedy film, it doesn’t change the fact that its still comedy

Same applies to being scared at horror. The reason why classic doom’s horror isn’t actually that frightening anymore is that the significance of demons is incredibly not scary or controversial now compared to how it was in the 90’s

Nobody actually tried to make a Doom Eternal mod for DOOM 3. Or they actually did but I'm pretty sure it's difficult as fuck albeit possible

I don't recall iD Tech 4 being given out like previous iD Tech engines so it probably isn't well optimized for modding alone and needs to be seriously tweaked if large scale mods are to be made on it.

in ID Tech 1 you just slap sprites, and write code. In ID Tech 4 you need knowledge in modelling, tweakings, code, and etc
