- Shitty, netcode that causes bugs like the “third person mode” and “dollhouse” bugs and can have over minute long input delays
- CTD by just opening the settings
- CTD by just opening the automap
- HOM issues even on the official maps
- Compatibility bugs
- CTD on level change

I’m new to pc doom and I’ve been hearing about strafing could someone pretty please tell me if strafing is talking about wasd and mouse controls or your entire movement being keys?
Strafing is specifically the buttons that move you left and right (usually A and D but control schemes differ between players)
Circle-strafing is the art of strafing while moving your mouse so that you run circles around an enemy while still being able to attack them

This is most effective on enemies with projectiles (with the exception of the revenant), as they don't predict your movement so they'll never hit you with this method

nightmare is just rush the map like zeromaster because 100% kills not possible. At duke you could at least stop the respawning by exploding the corpses
but the difficulty level design from these games are bad made imo
Descent did it the amazing way
because in descent the gameplay stays the same - same enemy placements, same powerups, everything the same, so that a new enemy is also introduced on every difficulty level at the same time
Descent changes all the indirect like - how much hp a bubble gives you back, how many shots the enemy fires per attack, how fast projectiles travel, how aggressive the enemies are, and all these indirect things which is really cool
no fighting against damage multipliers either
Nightmare wasn't intended to be well-designed, from what I know it was made as a gag
still doable in d1 and d2's original wads
the difficulty levels are in general not good designed, I wouldve loved to see more companies doing it like parallax did it for descent
I remember nightmare was made because some people complained that UV was too easy

The worst type of difficulty is numerical imo. Keeping enemies the same, but turning them into bullet sponges that do more damages on higher difficulties. A lot of modern games do this
a really good example is doom 2 map 06 the crusher, on every difficulty level an other enemy on the platform xD

On my doom clone I'm doing all I can to avert that. Enemy health is always the same on every difficulty. Always.
which also did Forsaken. And the result it does is: On higher difficulty level your own weapons all feel like shooting peas and this kills the fun when your own weapons feel like bullshit 😄

I also had 100%+ kills on lower difficulties thanks to Archies
Thought that's due to the level just not really having a defined monster value within itself
I've seen dsda being able to only count monsters you never killed before, which is a cool feature

GZDoom has also an option which you can turn on so that icon of sin kills all his spawns when killed - then you can do regular 100% kills

Because collision in Unity doesn't always work like I expect it to. And I still go through walls sometimes. I could help this by slowing my character down, but a slow-walker? In a doom clone? Hm.
I admit I have not tried every doom level on every difficulty so I can't judge much. My first go-to is always Hurt Me Plenty

Worry not, quicksaves are fully legit, even official doom manuals encourage you to save often

e2m6 has been the most difficult level I have completed so far in UV without quicksaves
yeah, I don't exploit it alot cause I like a challenge, but I do quicksave cause Ion wanna do allat that shit again

I did beat E4M1 on UV without quicksaves but E4M2 I did not enjoy at all so I kinda quit lol

i find funny that you have to pick a berserk to progress in that level, it serves like a switch

Y'know what I'm gonna replay Limbo (the level in episode 3 that I hated the most) and see if my time with D2, Final Doom etc made me better.

I still don't like the level but I may have treated it too harshly. At least there's no Chaingunner spam (makes sense since this is a doom 1 level)
I only used ONE quicksave for this level because the jump to get the yellow key was really inconsistent for me
Sometimes I made the jump using the same tactic when it failed
I did it on my own. I still think the level sucks for being a lava-infested mess with backtracking and small switches but oh well, I got it down. UV Max. I usually don't UV Max btw
And I actually got to the end without quicksaves on an earlier attempt. It's just that I redid it to get all secrets and that led to me getting in a bit of strafe warfare with that yellow key.

I just decided to have my revenge against E3M7 Limbo on UV
One attempt was not UV Max but without quicksave, another with one excusable quicksave and UV Max (which I usually don't do, but i felt like I had a score to settle with this level that put me off from replaying Episode 3 for months)
And yeah I kind of enjoyed E4M1, cool level
Gotta give Final DOOM some credit for making me realize that I may or may not have been a bit too harsh on DOOM 1

Just beat DOOM 2 Master levels' Subspace and Paradox... Paradox got beaten twice since I forgot to quicksave after it and died at the start of the next mission, wanted to keep my weapons etc
Paradox was a bit odd of a puzzle near the end but overall a good city level. Subspace was a bit of an eh? but not offensively confusing.
Doing pretty decent when it comes to classic doom. Beat DOOM 64 twice and enjoyed it, settled a score with Limbo (which may not be the worst ultimate doom level after all) and enjoying the first third of the master levels of doom 2

Hi ~ I am trying to complete TnT Evolution within the Doom 1+Doom 2 release and am on map 9 called stronghold. You have to run through an opening to a blue key at the top of a box, but I can't do that for some reason ~ has anyon eheard of this glitch?

In all fairness the level looks great but it just... ugh. not fun. I see a lot of other doom fans not like it. Virgil's lead... I got all kills and secrets without guide and quicksaves but it wasn't so fun either, lots of odd design choices and overall just not a good map either
