Splitscreen is a multiplayer feature added into Doom in several ports made since the original release. It allows the screen to be split into several player views at once, thus enabling multiplayer on a single system.
Différence between mods and maps
technically, mods refer to any 3rd party stuff you download for doom (whether it be maps or weapon/monster changes) whereas maps are the levels specifically. But, I have noticed that people who play more zdoom oriented content that changes more fundamentals of the game like brutal doom tend to say that they are playing "mods" when they play a level set and people who play more vanilla style content tend to say "mapset" when they play 3rd party levels and will sometimes say "resource pack" for 3rd party content that only changes weapons or sprites but doesn't add new levels

bc maps usually don't really mess with game mechanics and such like what people usually expect from video game mods

Vanilla DOOM, by the very default, never had any crosshair anyways.
I think the history of allowing it in speedruns was a combination of "who cares" and "we can't enforce against people making a crosshair using tape on their monitor"
It's considered cheating in multiplayer.
Red dot is a multiplayer cheat which adds a red dot to the center of the screen, intended for use as a crosshair to aid aiming. This is considered unfair as it may provide an aim advantage to the cheating player. This is only useful in vanilla Doom, as almost all modern source ports have a 'crosshair' option, which can even be customizable.

most if not all big source ports these days have crosshair options i'm pretty sure
I think at this point people are like "it gives you so little advantage that we might as well not care".
As for single-player, I'd say fixing the blockmap bug and better collision detection are both significantly better QoL improvements, so if using crosshair is cheating, so should be using GZDoom at all.

Doom engine is the same on the Unity build's source port, so bugs and glitches from Doom 1 and 2 that were not patched also apply there

unity is sort of easy mode for speedrunning though because you run fsater in unity, and therefore can do shit that isn't possible in og doom

Depends on if you're using a controller or not and what game it is. If it's doom 1, keyboard is automatically mapped to player one so player 2 will have to use a controller. I dont think doom 3 has multiplayer besides online which i am certain is dead. Also, when you're done with doom 1, I highly reccomend getting doom 2 as well as 64.

meaning if you provide the exact same inputs, it generates the exact same scenarios
so you can calculate what the position of every projectile and all of their damage values will be
you can pre-generate the inputs and simply run the inputs afterward, even slower, older computers should be able to handle that
So how does it? I had to tailor configuration so the bot wasn't destroyed by my normal (See: Heavy monster quantity) settings.

Well, doom was built on a raycaster and raycasters I think could be made in flash so it was easy to just clone the doom maps and add the textures and the demons, y'know?

The Unity ports support local multiplayer but there are dedicated source ports such as Zandronum, Odamex (I think that’s what it’s called), and ZDaemon
Zandronum is like the GZDoom equivalent of multiplayer ports if you want good mod support that’s the port for you

Your best bet is the Unity port with Steam Remote Play or whatnot
As the old way of doing that stuff has been long gone

God is it weird for me to only play E1, like I very rarely progress to E2 and just start a new game and restart E1 on nightmare again.

it’s only local co-op (with controllers btw)
so you’ll need something like Steam Remote Play to do something like multiplayer in the Unity port
otherwise, just pick up a multiplayer-orientated source port as we’ve said
also, I’m assuming you’re using the Unity port due to the fact multiplayer is on the main screen
but if you gonna use multiplayer like once in a while, Unity with Steam Remote Play or Chocolate, Crispy, and Woof
if you gonna use it a lot more often, use a source port dedicated to multiplayer (as I’ma be honest, the multiplayer in all 4 of those source ports kinda suck, and the last 3 are based on all players for performance for some odd reason, which is annoying)

Hey i gonna to buy the doom classic bundle on steam and inside there is all doom until the 3 remastered and i would like to know if in upgraded versions of each game ( doom upgraded, doom 2 upgraded, doom 3 bfg) have the all DLC also in remastered or if I want to play for example to master lvl of doom 2 its necessary to play at the original version or the 2 versions are complete and this on each game ty in advance.

Im not able to find certain weapons in the latest version of brutal doom platinum (Beta BFG, meathook, cyberdemon rocket launcher). The weapons drop, but I cant seem to use them. Is there a problem with the files or is it something else?

I would say Doom Infinite but that has horrible compatibility with other mods
All the monsters in game are fused with the blood enemies. The zombieman can throw dynamite and cast spells, a lot more different imps, cacodemons that can shield themselves, and there are these naked dudes with barrels strapped to them that sometimes respawn enemies for a short amount of time. I highly reccomend it
Its hard but like I said, highly recommend it.

A lot of people find that. Up close, shotgunners can do up to 45 damage in a single blast. And on nightmare going around corner without knowing whether or not a shotgunner is there is most certainly death since they will shot you immediately after waking up
fwiw I've always hated shotgunners more than chaingunners
I'll take interruptible 10 chip dmg from 1-2 bullets than 35 at medium-range in the blink of an eye

I legit struggle finding another person who would find shotgunners more dangerous than chaingunners.
If a chaingunner is shooting you, just hide or kill it asap, if you know what you're doing you'll lose maybe abit of HP
Shotgunners though, you miss to kill one hiding on a corner and there goes half your HP
I can think of many demons that are more dangerous than the ex-sergeants

It depends, from experience most wads have a lot more shotgunners than chaingunners atleast for me
Not to mention chaingunners cause the most enemy infighting
Not to mention they're also fairly manageable to kill most times.
You put a chaingunner in a corner, they're gonna take health but react fast enough and its done.
Meanwhile shotgunners in nightmare shoot the moment they saw you, and have a chance to take off all that HP you have in a single shot.
Though I do agree chaingunners are a bigger problem in UV or HRP
The issue is that a chaingunner's accuracy and rate of fire means it can tear you apart regardless or distance, and especially close quarters where it can kill you in a matter of seconds, and it also tends to snipe you where it's hard to find cover in quite a few maps. The thing about the shotgunner is that unless it somehow manages to surprise you and land a blast in a close quarters situation, they're not much more of a threat than random zombiemen. Chaingunners are also the most resilient human-type enemies, so they will usually land shots no matter what.
In short, shotgunners are better for ambushes with monster closets in my view, while the chaingunner can be a major pest regardless of distance
I'm not seeing anything about how they're able to pop off a singular shot for 35 damage vs a poultry 3-5 from a chaingunner's bullet.
like this is all cool and all but it's different in practice.

shotgunners r only ass with fast reflexes and around corners where you don't know they're coming, or when they're placed in specific positions that make it hard to move
this isn't about one getting the drop on you or otherwise, it's about raw aggro damage output
the shotgunner's purpose is a quick up-close damage burst
I'll take a singular chaingunner over a shotgunner if only by virtue that I'll at least get a reliable tool for stunlocking trash mobs out of it. shotgunners can fall into a hole and never come out.
getting jumped by a shotgunner is much worse than a chaingunner

it's simple really. if I'm faced with both in any one encounter at the same time, I'll kill the shotgunner first then the chaingunner.

Vanilla maps have a lot of hard limits that limit-removing ports raise.
What you should be concerned about isn't the physical size of the map as much as the number of actors that require rendering at any given time, as well as the total number of surfaces (visplanes) the player can see at any given time.

Yeah, pretty much. You had to keep the number of distinct visible surfaces low on any single point the player can look from. One too many and it's a fatal crash.

on a wider scale, the video is about "floating islands" in games and how their origin came from the extremely limited nature of older 3D games, forcing art designers to sort of canonize it and turn it into an aesthetic. this DOOM segment was for a sort of history section and to cover the earlier iterations of 3D and how most of the time they stuck to interiors to avoid such problems

Yeah, that's a good point about interiors. It's called a corridor shooter for a reason. Maps with wide open exteriors had to use very simple geometry early on.

Doom's backstory is intentionally (even a bit cynically) flimsy and cheesy because they didn't want it to distract from the gameplay, much to Tom Hall's chagrin. Many of its contemporaries had similar excuse plots summarised in a single paragraph at the beginning of the game (if not the physical game manual) like "In the year 20XX, the President of the US was kidnapped by Soviet space aliens! Take your guns and make them regret it!"

generally speaking I find Doom II maps better suited for Deathmatch

Make the barons fight the cacodemons in the other room, enemies cannot damage others of the same type unless they are hitscan (zombieman, shotgunner, chaingunner, mastermind)

It is a modded/ custom map. Just didn’t know if that was possible or not.
Been playing it on my switch. Classic that is. Much more fun than playing with one form of direction input. I played originally on gameboy and walking while aiming with the same D Pad was a huge deterrent. Being able to aim and move separately is a game changer
GZDoom does allow you to freelook unlike most other source ports.

I was dragging doom 2 and the wad into Zdoom at the same time
I had like three mods that weren't working because of my stupidity
