I get the impression that really any post-launch content aside from DLC wasn't fully planned prior to release

Hugo talked very shortly after launch that they will support the game with updates and content the same way they did for eternal, so master campaign coming before dlc seems pretty likely to me especially since dlc seems to be coming out like 9-10 months after launch (IF our estimations are correct).
And how long do they really wanna support the game with content, especially big updates like master campaign.
A ripatorium update could sure come after dlc tho, with new demons, arenas and new features.

During the first few Hugo streams they mentioned that they had just begun discussing the idea of Master Levels and The Ripatorium released in a bare bones state three months after launch

it's super easy to get hit from behind in final battle, I think the best approach is to position yourself where you can see everything and nothing can surprise you from the back. So essentially corner yourself if possible, just be careful about it

Guys I had a dumb question sorry in advance lol. So you know the game gives you a crossbow that deletes all the enemies infront of you. I stopped playing the game right at this point then cameback to the game after a month. When I started chapter 15, I don't see the crossbow. Was this a one time side gun? Cuz I dont see it anywhere

yeah they added more enemies to compensate for the improved electric stomp move
abuse the fuck out of that stomp man, you can pretty easily use it over and over again if you just keep beating the shit out of everything that's stunned
and be sure not to hit any energy shields since that resets ability charges
the shielded titans are the real hell
they're super annoying lol
They randomly pull the shield out of their ass with no telegraphing and you just get damaged
its spuer annoying when a random titan decides to interrupt you by shoving its club up your back leaving you open to get killed
My biggest gripe right now with the mech sections is that when you dodge, there seems to be a tiny cooldown until you can dodge again, but you don't get any more invincibility frames so if you dodge one guy, you can potentially get hit by someone else the moment your dodge is over and you're just fucked
Would've been nice also if they allowed you to use low tier special moves without activating higher tier ones. If I have access to the mega punch, but a titan is shielding itself, I have to wait for him to put his shield down instead of just doing the stomp. Little things like that could go a decent way I think
Especially when it's the cyclops attacking
The mech combat as a whole feels like it was designed specifically for one on one encounters
that's probably my biggest overall gripe with mech combat. it's not optimized for battles against multiple enemies at once even though nearly every single battle past the Barrier Core chaingun encounter features several enemies

I just wish the combat system was a little more developed
If there were more ranged attack options, it wouldn't be as bad
might help if the mech weapons were like ultimate abilities instead of dedicated segments
I don't like using the mech weapons for prolonged periods of time but being able to pull out the chaingun/cannon for a few seconds in the middle of a huge battle would be cool
Tbh I don't think I would even be opposed to having atlan combat return for another game, provided it has more depth than it does in dark ages. Maybe if they didn't have to also do the dragon combat it could've been better
Yeah that was my thinking, cut the dragon and expand the atlan
early Atlan UI designs feature a missile swarm ability, even small things like that could go a long way

i think how they did it works beautifully for the trilogy. 2016 is more mysterious with it being the first in the reboot series, eternal keeps the msyteriousness but throws in some actual cutscenes here and there too to expand the character. tda goes full in on the cutscenes to fully expand the character
it'll be interesting to see how they do the next doom game. my prediction is they'll go back to movement but not as insane as eternal. could perhaps combine both eternal and tda

Huh so there's a chance that how they tell the story will change with what the story is. So far we're thinking a solo doomguy mission? I don't necessarily agree with that as Hugo himself has said that they're going to develop Marok and Valen's character in the dlc, I just think Thira and Novik are gonna have very marginal roles. I think they will also focus on Doomguy's emotional state and priorities aswell

Me personally while I think Marok and Valen will have larger roles, I think Thira and Novik's roles are gonna be much more diminished

one problem I think modern Doom is suffering from is wanting to tell a larger, more thorough story but still having to keep the cutscenes relatively short. This is starting to lead to underdeveloped storylines where solutions kinda have to be handed to the characters
imo best example is the Slayer's Maykr imprisonment. It's so short that it doesn't have any real impact but they couldn't have really kept it going since the Slayer needed to be capable of making his own decisions so the story could maintain a higher level of meaning

I'm more than halfway through the campaign doing mayo's brawler jolt challenge, and man it really feels like you're fighting the controls more than the demons themselves sometimes. Playing normally helps mitigate this since you have access to all your powerful tools and upgrades but when you have to rely on melee and parrying nonstop, it's pretty apparent
I remember having a similar feeling after trying his Eternal brawler mode
It felt so weird not having access to what was like half my kit
But in TDA it’s probably much worse

So good thing I always use Impaler for bosses
like apparently ahzrak taking 125% damage from the impaler is balanced but he can't take more than 30% damage from the ravager
shit's lame as hell
Especially Azhrak with all his parryable attacks
So that's why literally every gameplay video on YouTube uses impaler for ahzrak
well, indirectly yeah
I'm sure most of them don't know exactly how much increased damage he's taking but intuitively it's the obvious choice
although this is more just me ranting about id's obsession with damage mitigation
why tf isn't it possible to just balance the enemies and weapons properly without having to use an A to Z table for each enemy to see how much damage they're gonna take from a given attack
One that messes me up constantly is where you're in the middle of a melee combo, and you need to parry something but can't because you're in a melee animation but you press the block input anyway, the shield doesn't come out, but after a few seconds, the game forces you to bring it up despite no additional input. I've also had it where I'm about to go in for a kick against a heavy demon, but some knucklehead fodder enters the frame at the last second and so the game just pivots and makes you kick the fodder instead, wasting my kick and also briefly disorienting. Oh and that one ridiculous bug where if you melee a dazed demon right at the end of the daze period, it just doesn't kill them and you lose
It dawned on me that this game would kick fucking ass in VR.
Be a much better fit than 2016.
The 2nd issue literally happened to me once in eternal and I'm still pissed. I was going to crucible an archvile in the sgn master level but some goofy ass imp tanked it in the last second

well, that last one isn't a bug, that's just how modern doom games are
meleeing a dazed/staggered enemy just as they're exiting that state was a concern all the way back in 2016--if you're in doubt as to whether you'll make it to them in time, just shoot them instead of meleeing
that second thing also isn't a bug, just unlucky--same thing as a fodder enemy walking in front of a staggered heavy or the like in eternal, and instead of getting a glory kill, you get punch-boosted into the air; not really sure there's anything the game itself could fix to alleviate this

The running theme I have with this game is doing a clean 100% Nightmare run of a chapter and dying in the last arena at least once
Its an experience that brings us all together
I wonder if this might be a gauntlet-specific thing
because whenever I use the flail (aka all the time), I never seem to run into this
although maybe that's just because I tend to not combo my melee when I'm expecting an incoming attack
does anyone here know if theres a mod that reduces ammo drops to the lowest resource setting without changing health/armor drops?
well, I have mod up on nexus that makes the csg/flail/ground fissure drop extra armor, which would let you drop the resource values slider and still get semi-reasonable armor values
but afaik there's nothing to do the same with health drops as of now, sorry

although since the cannibalism upgrade from the rocket launcher doesn't actually drop any health and is tied to the amount of self-damage you receive, its healing is not affected by resource sliders
hence why it's the best healing option at low resource sliders once you can get your hands on it, especially with blood sacrifice
yeah but id rather this mod + low hp drops + fine ammo drops than low hp/armor drops and fine ammo

Prob plays a larger role here than in eternal
In eternal the sooner you realize that “the closer you get to the demons, the quicker you die”, the better
The falter system really doesn’t play as big of a role there simply because ideally you’re at a distance such that it doesn’t really come into play
I’m replaying eternal now after TDA and the biggest trouble for me is the mindset shift that I’m supposed to create more space between me and the demons, not less

Which saves you 50% of the time
I have no idea how to play without a shield
Not having a shield isn’t the issue for me, it’s just the paradigm shift
In TDA you want to get up close to enemies (with a few exceptions) and in eternal you want to get very far away from enemies (with very few exceptions)
I always stay away in TDA, if it’s not an aggadon


Use the “Fuck it, we ball” mindset and just go crazy, it’ll work eventually
I'm not really having that much trouble tbf, just dying in stupid ways occasionally because I thought getting close to a dread knight or a doom hunter was a good idea somehow 
no parrying always trips me up
still haven't gotten accustomed to not parrying the hell knights
honestly dark ages rewards you for playing it like classic doom, the most optimal gameplay being able to swap from nudoom to classic on the fly. moreso on higher game speeds. if you're doing a no parry run try playing some doom 2 campaigns

Hey I’m having a big I siege part 1 where a combat encounter just won’t end. I kill all the demons and it just keeps spawning the fodder. What do I do?
It’s the vagary directly to the right of the big door you first come out of and I killed the vagary and the he’ll knight but it continues to spawn 2 imps and 3 zombies no matter what I do
And the statue to break is blocked off and the combat music just keeps going wtf do I do
I solved it by just restarting the mission
Figured it out. Turns out I had to restart my whole console

I tried restarting the mission but that just changed which combat encounter it happened on

SSG is actually efficient against many enemies if not all of them
so using it kinda would've trivialized the challenge

tbh the grenade launcher's whole upgrade tree is pretty much outclassed by ricochet
no worrying about self-damage, more consistent enemy targeting, not to mention it's much easier to just aim the shredder at a shield-sawed enemy than it is to lob grenades at them and get direct hits

Okay I played Seige part 1 a lil bit, any tips? Bc I kind of hate the hitscan stuff (I think that's what the enemies that flash damage on your screen are) so annoying, and it just feels so massive idk where to go or if I should
One time I respawned and got insta killed by a tank
for arachnotrons, shield bash into ssg is your best friend
cyberdemons are obviously not so easy, but you've just gotta either break line of sight with them or get up close as soon as possible, because their ranged options are much more dangerous than their melee
I hate that the game in the tutorial tells me to and I quote "take cover", did they forget what game this is? (Arachnotron)
also tanks will always just be annoying, you gotta parry them right
although they take 500% damage from the rocket launcher which is nice

there are a total of three enemies out of the dozens in the game that hitscan you

Still don't know how to feel about this game at times, Eternal is my favorite game of all time and I beat UN, maybe it's my Eternal bias? But I died very little in my Nightmare playthrough thus far until Seige came around.
