📣 Presenting the New AI Characters Idea

Hello everyone,

Starting today some of you will be able to see the new feature we've been working on lately — revamped MEE6 AI Characters.

This is the very first, test version of this idea, and we're excited to know what you think about it!
In this message, we provide some answers about the feature, and we invite you to share any constructive feedback you might have in this temporary channel.

1️⃣ What is it about?

We had AI characters before, where you could talk to some pre-set AI characters.
In the new version of the AI characters, you can create your own characters with vast customization options, browse characters made by the community, and even spice things up!

2️⃣ Where to see the new feature?

Some of you can see it on your server's Dashboard -> AI Characters:

• If you see a list of characters right away, then you still see the previous version of AI Characters.
• If you see a banner + button that redirects you to a new page, then you see the new AI Characters

3️⃣ When will I be able to try them?

We're slowly unlocking AI Characters to more and more people to make sure everyone has the best experience possible. Please allow us some time, and you will eventually see it as well.

4️⃣ Is it the final version of AI Characters?

No, this is the very first version, and anything can be improved/changed at any moment!

5️⃣ Is there a trial period and what's the price?

Yes, you will be able to try chatting with a character for free on our website. To chat with it on a server, we offer the Unlimited Plan to purchase, with no limitations to character installs or answers on that server.

You're in the wrong channel, that message is for the other AI, which is a paid service. There's a way to disable it, check this #〉volunteer-support message , for information about the advertisements. They have the right to promote as you've used all your free uses. Comparing a car with a Discord bot is quite unconventional.

The suggestion you linked to I did before coming here. It disabled the AI features, it does not disable the advert to buy AI from the bots.

I wouldn't mind sticking to that channel but there is no response there.

Arguing with customers is quite unconventional. We have purchased your product and can now no longer use it in the manner we used to. Is it so much to be able to reply to the bot every so often and tell it off without "PLEASE BUY AI" being blasted in the chat.

Firstly, I'm not part of the staff. Secondly, you've acquired premium, not AI. Attempting to use features you haven't purchased prompts the system to remind you that it's not free, and you need to make the purchase. Taking just 5 minutes to explore the information I shared and following the instructions will cease such messages.

Hi @shy vale, if you disabled Backstory, and if you've disabled /characters, /imagine and /write commands in integrations, then you won't see any of those "advertisements" anymore, as they appear only after trying to use some AI feature. We don't display it out of the blue. I hope it will be solved for you with these actions

It looks like you have it on "Allow for all channels, except", so it means that it is denied for all channels, except for the mentioned channels (none).

Change it to "deny for all channels except" and it will work.

~~At this moment our new AI characters don't work well with custom bots (Bot Personalizer feature).

We're working on a fix, and the workaround meanwhile is to invite the regular MEE6 in addition to the custom bot. You can do it by using this link:

What's the difference between Bio and Character facts?
For the custom bot you put everything into Bio, because there are no such fields like the character facts. So everything the AI "knows" should go there i suppose?

Have you tried changing the Answer length to Short and Demeanor to Uninterested? See if that helps.

I understand that it can be frustrating to be asked to pay for additional features when you have a lifetime premium. However this is not a traditional plugin like ticketing, it's a whole new product with a totally different value proposition than MEE6. Also, running AI servers is super expensive and if you look at the competition when it comes to AI services, our price for this feature is the lowest around.

Bio is the description of your character, things that are really important to define it so that the AI model always have that information.
For example for Barack Obama, the information that he was President of the United States would go in the Bio.

Facts are factual information about your character that are not as important but that your character should have in it's memory.
For example for Barack Obama, the fact that his favorite song in 2023 was “TQG” by Karol G and Shakira would go in the Facts.

However the line between the two can be blurry so I would advise to experiment by switching things around and chatting with the character to see how it affects it (remember to clear the chat each time you make changes to the character fields).

That won't change the response rate. Some other factors might. @atomic grove opened a ticket with Woods so we can look into it. Once we have figured it out, we will share the solution here.

Will they learn over time?

I also tried to make all descriptions and Bio in german. They also respond in german but it's way worse than the personal bot AI

Really, all of our testing convinced us that the answers of the new characters were way better. Can you maybe explain why you prefer the ones from the custom bot's backstory?

Yes, our AI model is mostly trained on English. We are planning a multi-lingual model in the future but for now languages other than English will be sub-optimal

Maybe it is because of the german language I used. I will try another bot in english and test again.
But for example the bot completely ignores the name I put in the Bio ("Your name is .... "). It always says "I am <Botname>"

Also there is a bot who is a dog and I want him to see his human as a brother and clearly said that his brother is a human.
If you ask him about it he knows that he has a brother but always says that his brother is also a dog 😂

Hello, I am trying to re-add Mickey Mouse which was a chacter in the old system. The old character used to incorporate Mickey's signature phrases and expressions into the AI's vocabulary. This includes classics like "Oh boy!", "Gee whiz!", "Hot dog!", and "Gosh!". No matter what I do in the new characters setup however, I can't seem to replicate this functionality.

I have now played around with the new AI and I found some stuff that can be worked on.

1. If you want a long story's with the bot, and set the status to long or super long, it cuts off the text, I assume it hit Discord's max character limit. Is it possible to make it so if that happens, it will create a thread, where rest of the text will go to?

2. As the bot remembers the conversation, it helps to keep the bot more interactive, I like it, however, sometimes, it looks like it will repeat something again and again and again that has been said before, this feels like you are talking to a bot.

(Temp-fix for issue 2 is to remix the bot and create a new channel for it, so that it doesn't remember what have been posted before. Not sure if deleting the channel is actually needed.)

3. Sometimes (this happens rarely and isn't very consistent to trigger, but has happen to me a few times) it will ignore some part of your input text that you added in, and change it to something else, for example:

My input: Mario got the superstar. He will now carry it while going to save Peach with Luigi.

The AI: I, Luigi will help Mario with carrying the superstar, while we go and save Peach.

My AI character keeps forgetting its backstory. I wrote lore in the AI bot section on mee6 website. When I added the bot to the server it didn’t remember any of it so I pasted it in the channel along with “this is your lore”. It worked for 30 minutes then forgot it again.

I don’t think I have AI subscription but I can access the AI bot section.

Hey, you need to make sure that the backstory is actually added to the character's bio, then it will work. You can check the settings of your character for it.
Adding the backstory in the text in the channel will not work.

I'm having some issues creating / remixing a bot on mobile. When I press enter after inputting text in the personality traits, loves, or hates text boxes, it removes my inputted text and goes to the next text box. (I.e., if I input something on Loves, it will void the text and move to the Hates text box.)

Is it just not possible to edit or create these on mobile right now?

Also, the drag bars for demeanor, vulgarity, SFW/NSFW, and answer length all bug out as soon as you try and use them. After using any of them once, all bars you have touched will be adjusted at once.

I originally posted in the wrong channel. I made a custom bot, and it works perfect when I test it on the me6 website. When I add it to my server, it keeps repeating the same line mixed into its reponses. I even tried kicking the bot, creating a new one from scratch, adding the new one, and it did the same thing. Tbh the bots are really buggy from my experience, for example I have Pikachu in my server but now Michael De Santa and Vegeta keep saying "pika pika pika" and talking about zapping people. Also the bots either take forever to respond or don't at all (Pikachu seems to struggle the most with this, 90% of the time he doesn't respond). And a lot of the time the bots repeat the same things no matter how many times I delete the messages, kick them, add them back, etc. Another thing, some of the bots say really NSFW things even when NSFW is not enabled. The bots work fine with the DM feature on the website, it's just when they get added to the server they start acting weird.

The AI characters V2 does allow you to create your own characters, but I don't know anything about existing characters in V1 or any move (if any) to V2. Mods are volunteers so we don't have access to tickets, only MEE6 staff do. He will likely be privy to information about AI that we don't know about, so best to discuss with him in the ticket if it's still open. 🙂

In the traits section include “responds in Spanish” as a choice. At this current time there isn’t a multilingual characteristic built in to mee6 its default language is in English.

That’s no problem. I’d be happy to help you with that. Head to your roles page under server settings. Top left click on roles. Now because you gave your bot a name, anything new you have created will always appear at the bottom of the list of roles. Click and drag the bot you are looking for to the top or assigned area for your bots. Usually all your bots should be in one place. If you create a role “Bots” then click assign separately. Anything you assign below that should be considered a bot.

Assign the bots role to the characters and mee6. Then hit the “make separate from the rest button” that way they will always show up as bots and you will always know when one is active or offline. Keeps them organized too for a cleaner layout

Just saw this message. Go back into your ai character through the mee6 dashboard and refresh the page then publish it again. It should save the refreshed version and send it to your server. I say this from personal experience myself and it has worked.

Hi, if you're talking about AI characters, then they are designed to join conversations proactively. If it's not desirable for you, you can restrict the channels in which characters talk, but you cannot prevent it from happening completely in allowed channels. For now 🙂

I have a very complicated question about the mee6 ai characters. I am currently building an ai that can assist my server with coding. I really need information regarding how the ai thinks. Like are you using open AI or chat gpt? I understand that this information may be sensitive so I understand if I cannot have this information. However I have told it to only use specific websites to attain information to be able to answer our questions but it seems to be confused and is using different coding syntaxes to give an explanation on a question we have. I have gotten it extremely close to being correct but close isn't enough when writing code especially when I rely on the AI to teach the newbies in my business.

We're excited to see your use case, and we have to say that AI Characters are currently not designed to take information only from specific websites (otherwise we would have a specific field or option for it), so yes, the info that they provide might be inaccurate.

AI characters are currently mostly for fun and engagement, not really for specific/targeted/accurate support. Of course, you can experiment though, and we'll see if something like that would be implemented in the future.

I think I got it too work. I gave it enough rules to follow that he has to not only provide what website he is using when he is giving information, but he is only allowed to use certain websites by being restricted to citations. It seems to work so far. I appreciate the reply, and I understand that you can't reveal the language model. I have to say I'm very impressed however I've been testing it the last few days and I've been seeing very surprising results in adding extremely difficult behaviors in the AI. I've only been able to confuse it once which is quite remarkable I've tested a few different AI models and this one seems pretty solid.

I am a sub to MEE6 AI Character. I am using it every time with my own characters and I have a couple of suggestion to make for you to make it even more great and interesting! Options and features to make them exist like a real person would! Here are some of my ideas :

• Make them respond to us when we talk about them!
• For now, it's still kinda random, I didn't figured out how to let them talk with us without mentioning them.
• Also make them read us after this random reply, if we still write their names or whatever that is link to them then they continue. (Without mentioning them)
• Make multiple characters talk to us at once!
• It may be tricky but can be much more interesting! All you have to do is talk about them and they will respond to your message one after the other after reading the messages from the other characters. So we could have a conversation with several of these characters and have them interact with each other. Still following our message, the goal is not to produce an endless conversation of course!

You need to experiment a little with it to get the desired results, as it's very personal and variable for each character, server. The existing settings also can bring some clarity:

I've managed it reasonably well; it sounds like a narrator to what the player is doing. They can easily break the illusion by asking how it feels, though. But so far, with a bit of time, I've managed to create the feel of someone researching in a library, and the AI acts as a narrator for what they found in the books. Surprisingly robust.

Basically i've made a whole location for exploring with characters in each room. It's an RPG. I write scenarios of Call of Cthulhu.

Hello, that's kind of already available. It indicates who made it, just check the Discord server to see who the team is, then go back to the characters and install the plugins made by the staff. While it won't specifically say "made by MEE6 staff," you'll see the names of the team members.

i've tried to remake it, but these are complex characters with trigger words to speak phrases and ! commands to open new rooms when players find the right thing to say.

I used those words in a bio of a new character, and there was no NSFW flag, so the issue might be somewhere else.
Is the NSFW slider on Level 1 or 2? Also, try changing the avatar, as we automatically recognize NSFW avatars.

I think you can replicate the bug; it has to do with the Character Fact slots you type into. If you copy and paste the same phrase into the slot below it, hit enter, and then delete that slot, it triggers NSFW until you delete the first instance of the text you copied from.

They won't, no. They can talk about each other only, but you need to see what they know about each other in their character slots. Otherwise, they'll just make up what they know. Tagging both together only ever makes them address the original message.

Hi I'm having an issue with my character, it's stuck in a constant loop of just brushing me off and I can't say anything to it, no matter what I say it just keeps repeating the same thing. Is there some way to reset it ? It works fine in the preview window on the mee6 page but on my server it just doesn't want to talk to me. I tried remixing, I tried kicking it out and adding it back in but nothing seems to work.

I was planning on actually just creating my own server discord bot with 4 but saw this option and decided to try it. It seems that their programming has gotten mixed up somehow, and despite my efforts to fix this by removing all presidential AIs from the server by uninstalling them, they continue to use the phrase. If you think it's permissions related, then temporarily give your custom bot (bot personaliser) the Admin permission in its custom bot server role, then see if you can add an AI character and get it to work.

Also check that the AI character you add has all server and character settings set to what you desire.

Hey, those replies look like the replies that you get by pinging or replying to your custom bot (Bot Personalizer feature). And those replies are the "Backstory" AI feature.

I'm sorry, that feature doesn't have any support for very long replies, so they get just cut-off.

If you'd like to have a long reply from the AI, please use the /write command insted - it will create a thread if the initial reply is too long for 1 Discord message.

Hey folks, I run a bleach rp server and have been checking for an Ichigo ai character since they came out. Well with the launch of v2 a lot of bleach characters got added. I keep trying to add Ichigo and it makes the role, but didn't assign anyone to the role. My character is on my server and has been talking to my members, and I can see them under "Installed Characters" on the MEE6 site, but now when I go back to edit my character by choosing "View character" I get a 404 error. This might be related to how my character has been kept private for now, whereas another community character that I installed, Walter White, I can view using the "View character" option. Additionally, when I use the "My characters" option on the sidebar I get "You haven't created any characters yet", which is obviously not true as they're installed.

Unfortunately, if this feature won't work for me, it is sadly useless.

Which really sucks as it's something I would eventually pay for as it's been engaging my members. But I only want it if I can make my own characters within the universe my server is about.

I have a small question regarding your AI characters. I tried to install the Chizuru Mizuhara ai character (by Mee6) on two of my servers, but it didn't responded to any messages (there was also no message that told me that the character is on the server). I tried to reinstall it, set it on and off and changed the allowed channels, but it didn't work for me. The page says it is correctly installed and "on", bjt there is still no response. Four other installed AI characters are working quite well for me, so maybe there is some problem with it. I think it could be a general problem with the character itself or is it probably a bug. I am thankfull for any suggestions by the designer team, admins or some guys with expierence regarding this issue. Thank you for your help. 🙂

Unfortunately, it's a very buggy release. My custom character is actually working but I can't edit it at all despite it being installed on my server. I try to view it on MEE6's dashboard and get a 404 error.

From what I gather, all of the characters that the MEE6 team created should work fine.

But a lot of people would be paying to make their own characters, and in that respect the service isn't delivering.

The other 4 ai characters from mee6 (levi ackerman, creeper, villager & gojo satoru) worked also very well for me after installation, so I was disapppinted that the chizuru mizuahara character wasn't working.

Yeah, pretty much, but be sure to put the character's whole backstory in their bio. It's what I do. Otherwise they might not remember some key events from the universe they're from. If you're having trouble with the character count, consider using something like ChatGPT to shorten the bio to a smaller amount of characters and make good use of loves/hates/facts.

I got a question about the AI characters. Do they improve over time the more users engage with it? Because I've made a custom one for my server that has lore and at first it gave wrong information not really aligning with the server. Nope, they're as smart or as dumb as you make them. They don't develop dynamically, so be sure to provide a good enough bio. But even when you give it all of the facts, it is not uncommon for one of these chatbots to have a "brainfart" and make a mistake.

I filled all of the options given for the AI Bot, facts, bio and it's traits are all filled. I even made a hidden channel on the server with the bot and written extra details in it for the bot to remember. But even then at times it makes mistakes and adds false information

There is no direct way to "reset" a character, as it takes into account some of the previous messages in the channel.

Try this:

• Mention the character intead of replying, it might help.
• Talk to your friends for a while without replying to the character or pinging it. When the history of messages "refreshes", it will get back to their set personality.

Hey, on the server AI characters see and take into account several messages that happened earlier in that channel, to make them more fitting the conversation. So that's what affects them, while on the website it's "vacuum".
You can try adjusting the character's bio or other parameters to account for that.

Characters remember some context from a few previous conversations in the channel, and if then you start talking to the same character in another channel, it might recall what just happened in the first channel. There is some hidden/secret logic there to make them more interesting and pleasant to talk to, but it's not a specific feature that we offer, so it's not guaranteed. Please feel free to try and experiment with it.

Hey. Liked the characters very much during the trial period. Thinking of doing the subscription. They went through a "buggy" phase where the name of the channel showed up at the end of a sentence, as in this picture. You working on that? Did it just freak? Breaks the illusion.

Also, do the characters "grow" at all as they interact? Batman is great but he oftentimes started things with "I am Batman." Repetitively. It's gets flat and redundant. Like playing "one note."I do like the character, but I noticed that.

In contrast, The Riddler (the Jim Carrey one) was very varied.That was great. I did notice with Riddler that sometimes he would still be talking and it would just stop because he reached the 50-word limit I had set for him. Would stop mid-sentence. I could prompt him to pick it up again by using the word or a short phrase with the word in it and posing it as a question to him. Not sure why he is cutting off like that, rather than structuring his replies within the boundary of the length limit we set on him.

We already know that sometimes characters might repeat themselves and/or get stuck in a loop. We're looking into this issue.
But: in case of your Batman, he has "Often says "I am Batman"" in the Bio, which would make him say it often. If you don't like it, please remix the character and remove it from his bio.

Regarding the "evolving", no, characters don't "evolve". They learn from the recent history of messages and can hold a conversation, but they don't have a long-term storage.

Regarding the #channel - that's weird, should not happen. Might be a random error/hallucination, and it happens a lot and bothers you, please feel free to create a ticket so we could investigate. You can use the Billing ticket and ping me there.

AI characters are not guaranteed to work in non-English, and the quality or replies would be lower, but you can still try forcing them to speak only a specific language by putting an instruction to do so in its Bio, traits, loves and facts. I asked a question in community-support, but am realizing this may have been a more appropriate forum. I apologize for asking it twice, but the response wasn't as clear as I was hoping it would be. The MEE6 bot customization explicitly stated that the "backstory" should be written in imperative form. I did not see any guidance on the custom bots that we can self-create. My understanding is that their "Bio" plays the majority role in their "personality". My question is, does the "Bio" of a custom AI bot also need to be written in imperative form? Do the Loves, Hates, Traits, Facts need to be in imperative form. Are there any specific "rules" "key words" etc to use in order to get the most of of the specific personality effect you are trying to achieve?

AI characters cannot speak Turkish properly. They make spelling mistakes, give meaningless answers, make meaningless sentences and sometimes repeat themselves in sentences. I hope this situation will improve in the near future... AI Characters are not very useful for Turkish users at the moment.

The "/write" command is much more successful. I guess AI Characters are not supported by ChatGPT, like this command :/

What dialogue length do you have it set to? I reduced ours from long to medium and it seems to have helped

I just said "test" to the bot numerous times and now i've started asking it more complex questions. It seems to be improving honestly but I intend to thoroughly test it. The person that answered my tickets said it may take some time so I don't want to jump the gun

So far it's better for sure but still throwing in some random strings of words that aren't needed at all. But I'll keep playing with it still too see if it keeps improving

Problem for now:

• sentences are unnatural
• no space between words
• some wrong texts

In addition to the screenshots I posted above, I've also noticed a lot of repeated phrasing in all of the replies like these examples.

Most of my characters have forced korean language, but it's not working very well.

Hey, I'm glad to hear that at least the gibberish mix of languages is almost gone.
Regarding the Korean language overall, I'm sorry, our AI characters. are still limited to and optimized for English, so other languages can be working not that well.
Making our AI characters work well in other languages might be implemented in the future 🙏

Indeed, we tried to fix the issue with repetitions, which caused another issue of "gibberish" language.
Now we've undone the fix that we made, so there should be less gibberish, but there will be some repetitions back.
We'll be looking more into it next week.

It seemingly isn't able to understand the use of asterisk (actions - thoughts) when Im trying to enforce the format in the biography. Also the characters wont make any actions related to ours, they will only speak in a broken manner. Plus they wont speak in a manner im asking them to, and the french language isn't supported (but is on chatgpt...).
