there have been reports of switching back to main save not working due to version difference, so you may end up stuck in the expedition save until the patch comes

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and press "CHECK CODE", then select it from the dropdown menu. Better handling for large numbers of loaded mods

The unlocks happen on your account file as opposed to your individual save files. You could just use a save editor to unlock whatever you're missing. But what you described should also work, assuming it doesn't mess your account save up somehow. I guess also backup your accountdata.hg

I just used the experimental code, signed up for the beta on steam because I was told that bug on the portal is fixed on experimental

They did a lot between the normal game and updates to experimental.

For now, what I'd recommend is skipping that portal and using the portal address for phase 4 to continue the expedition.

Once the fix comes through if it comes through before the expedition ends, then you can just go back and do that

So dumb question... I started expedition from an existing save. Is there any reason to save the increased inventory slot items in the expedition to unlock your main save? Or will the unlocked slots apply to your main save? Or are they not transferable to the main save at all?

I've been praying for years for an expedition system where they are all there and you just commit to one of them until you finish. Then move on to the next. I guess this Worlds 2 update just proved that a massive new game update can totally bork an older expedition like this. So having nearly 20 available at once might be asking a lot of them.

you can continue with experimental build if you stay on PC version. If you transferred your save from a console version via the beta cross save and intend to put it back on console after you 'fix' it, you're out of luck until the console version gets updated with a fix

you can't "skip" it either. You can continue and try to finish other expedition missions if you can find planets to do them on, but you'll never be able to complete the part where it wants you to go through portals until they update/fix it.

the expedition is currently bugged, especially regarding breach 3 portal. Only known fix is to use the experimental release of the game, which still doesnt work for everyone, and does not let you convert back to stable release after you finish it

Once you switch to experimental, your version is set out of the patch lineup. So switching back, your saves won't be compatable with the live branch

It puts you in a separate instance for the expedition, and at the completion of it, all your rewards and stuff get transferred to your main save I believe.

You could go to the experimental branch, having backup of that folder, then finish the expedition and return to the backup after switching back to main branch.
