so the guilds have free items and you get more/better when you rank them up. you can stockpile quests of the same type to speed them up (kill 8 sentinels will award 8 sentinel kills for all quests), and you can buy items to donate to guilds too

Does anyone know if scanning a planet before the previous research milestone is complete negatively affects the outcome of the community research milestone. In other words, If I scan all flora on the target planet for phase 2 before phase 1 is completed, do my scans count once phase 2 of the research project is begun?

Make sure to visit the Space Station and exit ship. That adds it to the list of Space Stations. Will eventually be rotated out if it remains unused and others get added, but will be a while before that happens. For the expedition you don't really have to worry about it.

"Go to a space station and use the teleporter. Any space station entry in your list that's now pirate-controlled will say "Clearance Not Granted" at the bottom. You'll have to warp to the system (not sure if you can portal to it; haven't tried that yet) but at least you'll know which one it is.

The other way is to have a conflict scanner installed, go the galaxy map, flip the filter to "Conflict," and look for red stars--pirate systems are equivalent to conflict 3. There'll be a little skull icon instead of the crossed swords on the system pop-up."

the way i go about that is just select the lifeform filter in the galaxy map, that allows me to ignore all white stars (uncharted systems can't ever be outlaw), and then just inspect systems for the skull instead of the stars

Requires Economy Scanner OR Conflict Scanner installed on your active ship. If using a Living ship, the Wormhole Brain. When using the Freighter Galaxy Map, the Interstellar Scanner tech is required.

In the galaxy map, look for systems with a small pirate skull left of the Economy type icon and identified as Black Market, or with Conflict level set to Pirate Controlled.

Hey i still have some confusion about primary saves and activating expeditions. I'm ok with inconveniencing myself, but are there any major gotchas where if you're not careful you could lose your frigate, ship or inventory when completing an expedition this way?

i'm fine with stumbling through it i just don't want to lose anything important on accident.

initially, there's a save file, with a single context - whatever game mode you picked for your save, difficulty settings etc. when you start an expedition from existing save, a new context or iow a new data table is created in your save file. takes/copies some data from primary to fill out the template, but always leaves main save context alone. stuff like freighter or frigates from primary save are literally not even in the equation at any point, and the only things that you actually take from primary save are the things you put into the expedition stash

when it's time to end the expedition, the only things you'll be able to bring back are items/packaged tech/modules; once you're back on primary, you'll also be allowed to copy the ship and MT you last equipped before leaving expedition. currencies you're holding will be merged: if you got more stuff to just sell, do so in expedition, to avoid having to spend the cargo slots

in any save under the same account, even your primary, especially your primary, can claim them from qs shop, once per save,

If you are referring to for example storage containers, then no. Although part of a base, the content is not transferred when the base transfers upon completion. Same goes for other base parts that can normally hold items
