I believe you can claim the Normandy Frigate from the Quicksilver Vendor in the Anomaly in your primary save once you get your first freighter. Claiming it in the Expedition should not impact your primary save.

When I started the expedition from an existing save which had a freighter the expedition still started me on the freighter the expedition should start you on (for exp2)

I can recommend using the "lock on" functionality while in space battle for a lot of things. You probably want to set the keybind for it to something other than it defaults to as well.

No I mean you do of course start the expedition with a freighter, because that’s how the expedition is set up. I meant if you start from an existing save, the freighter you have in the expedition you don’t keep, likely because those who started from an existing save might already have a freighter and it could cause issues with overriding that existing freighter perhaps

That's just like with everything. You don't keep things from an expedition you started from an existing save unless you transfer them through the anomaly terminal, and you can't transfer a freighter through the terminal

But with say Polestar, which happened back before there was the ability to start from an existing save, you kept the initial freighter (at least I am 99% sure you did). I know because I still have the system freighter on those saves, or did anyway until I got new ones😂

If you try to copy a ship from the expedition while you have the limit in your existing save it will overwrite your current ship, so they could technically make an option to copy the freighter over too, I guess, with the same overwriting functionality

I mean, if you start a new save of course you keep the freighter you have on that save.

If you don't want to use the cut wifi exploit. Warp about 4-5 jumps away from a rendezvous system, then ask Polo in the Anomaly for black hole coordinates. If the black hole doesn't drop you in undiscovered space, repeat. Warp 4-5 from that spot, then request another black hole, etc.

you only get access to gear/items added to expedition terminus back in primary after you unlock the anomaly in expedition, which normally happens after the first warp. so before getting there, you do start with a new character, nothing but what the devs decided an expedition start should have.

imo the main reason to start from a new save is if the player only really cares about phase and final expedition rewards, which get unlocked account wide. the reason to start from existing save is to be able to copy gear/items (maybe unique items to an expedition) back into primary save

expedition milestone rewards often provide everything needed to complete other milestones/the expedition itself, without the need to have mats/gear from existing save

@subtle peak So what you do if you use a previous save is decide what - if anything - you want to take into the expedition. You can only take in so many tech and materials so plan carefully.

@subtle peak Then you go to the anomaly and find the expedition terminal and use it to convert that save into an expedition save. It basically sets a restore point of sorts on the save you were using

@subtle peak From then on once you are in the expedition it is pretty much a fresh temporary save.

@subtle peak You run the expedition and then once done you close out the expedition at the terminal on the anomaly. Putting items you want to take back with you in the terminal before completely closing it out.

@subtle peak You are then returned to the anomaly at the point you were just before you entered the expedition.

All items not taken in are saved on the primary save - the items that are removed from the save are only the ones you decide to move into the expedition.

When you use the terminal it essentially creates a restore point so everything you have and have done up to that point is saved.

Something odd just happened, I’m near the end and launched the myth beacon, all good. Ran to my ship but then I needed to log out…I log back in and it look like I’m stuck in a base or somthing, no doors just a room and I can’t get out..tried blasting and terrain modification and it says I can’t edit…reloading does nothing

remember that most players warp forward i.e. towards the core, many dont warp up/down/left right; since black hole systems are fixed, systems near a black hole warp exit will most likely be discovered already, but if you move away from that system, 1000LY or so, you should start finding undiscovered stuff. if you still can't, see <#nms-expedition message> (scroll down)

Well, they fixed the "reset save on death" mechanic in Leviathan recently, so that could mean they were testing/looking into that as a rerun candidate.

There was a tell that Beachhead was coming because they changed the coordinates for the Normandy milestone which made the old expedition really hard to beat without warping hundreds of times.

You need to save the inventory expansion upgrades till after you return to your main save.

I hope you at least know about visiting both the space station and the Anomaly to buy exosuit slots (choosing whether it's tech or cargo slots) for each new system you visit.

At least now you’ll know for future expeditions that you can save those and keep them for your own main save.
If it’s exosuit slots you need there are some other options. Each space station you visit you can add one slot by buying it. Alternatively you can collect nav data, and at the charts spot at space stations, you can use it to buy exosuit charts that lead you to drop pods where you can upgrade a slot once at each (needs 1 carbon nanotube, some sodium nitrate, and 1 antimatter housing). Still labor intensive but it doesn’t cost as much.

You can get ship expansion slots from scrapping S class ships.
MT expansion slots are much more rare to find, but sometimes solving secure site puzzles will yield one (otherwise it gets costly)

Yeah, i read somewhere that when NMS released on Xbox One there was no dedicated Share button (it was added with release of Xbox Series). And somehow NMS milestones tied to old method of taking screenshots (Xbox button>make a screenshot), they just never updated the game for a new Share button.

The main thing that made me get attached to my expedition save was getting a good pirate freighter and the indium class warp drive. I still haven't managed to get even the first hyperdrive upgrade for my freighter in my regular save, though I've been trying to do some abandoned freighter quests to get the upgrade modules

Expeditions are an alternate time-limited, season-like game mode with a set of challenges rewarding exclusive items that can be claimed in any and all of your saves, in any game mode account-wide.

To get past expedition rewards, you must wait for possible future expedition re-runs (see past expeditions) or possible future Twitch Drops campaigns featuring old expedition rewards (see past campaigns). You don't lose your main save.
It kinda gets put onto the background while you run the expedition.
Once you finish or time runs out, you revert back to your main save you launched the expedition from.

And you can always go back to your main save through the options menu while on an expedition started from that main save

As others have said, you don't lose your main save even if you don't finish the expedition (caveat: if you are playing in permadeath and die in the expedition, you probably do, but I doubt that's the case). But you can also do the expedition using a new save, once completed the rewards will also be available to your main save, although not the extra goodies you picked up along the way.

Personally I’ll usually find it more convenient to copy my maxed out multitool and ship than try to upgrade or deal with the basic stuff the expedition gives me

Selling the ship and multitool modules I’m given in order to do so

Plus jetpack upgrades since I import three of those each time

I’ll also save all of the inventory expansions I get in order to send them to my main save once the expedition is done, including exosuit ones (and especially any cargo bulkheads)

You can also import a refiner mod and enough ms for materials to buy the MT and ship

Simple enough to go to an abandoned base, run around and nab all the larval cores to refine

Stuff in suit does not transfer back to main save.

However, you can load up the Terminal and then only use the Options Menu to Return to primary save.

If you install them you can choose the best ones to take out again and put into that technology bar to transfer out

Once in primary, unload the terminal, hop in and out of ship to create Restore Point (just in case). Then return to the Terminal to Resume Expedition. Load up the terminal again and repeat as needed.

Just make sure you don't select to end the expedition in the terminal screen, otherwise MuhChicken is giving you a way to get it all out

If you use the Options Menu to "Return to primary save" it does not end the Expedition. Then you can unload the terminal in your primary save. Create a restore point, and the use the terminal to Resume Expedition. Load up the terminal again and then use the Options Menu again to "Return to primary save". Repeat as needed...

I believe the limit is there to keep you from taking everything into the Expedition. I guess taking everything back is okay or just an oversight.

Going into the Expedition that terminal is locked out from your primary save once you click on the start Expedition button.

Oh yeah, you are right. That what i saw in that video, dude just told what you should do and should not do when when preparing to start expedition. He showed that if change you mind and take items from kiosk back to your main save all the slots will become inactive and the only way to fix it is to start expedition from the another save. So thought it works in both way

question for the expedition, if you choose to copy your starship and multitool from your primary save, do you get all cargo in your starship and attachments on the multitool? Also can you still access the additional starting equipment window? the wording makes it seem you either choose the existing starting equipment window, or copy your starship/multitool

Cargo isnt, so copy will have the same cargo size but itll be empty

whatever you put in the expedition terminus you will be able to retrieve from the expedition side once you make it to the space anomaly
Then you can copy ships and multitools, copy costs nanites

you cant send more items to the expedition then fits in the stash, but you can send back more if you do it in a couple trips (put in on the expedition side, save game, take out on the primary, save game, repeat)

Take this with a grain of salt. Usually expeditions only rerun at the end of the year that they came out in. Beachhead and one other expedition are the two recent exceptions to this. Assuming Hello Games continues this trend and releases one old expedition every year, we won't see a second rerun of beachhead anytime soon. So it will probably be a minimum of 3-4 years, if ever, before beachhead gets rerun a second time

The 3-4 years estimate is obviously assuming that they would start rerunning old expeditions more often. Because obviously No Mans Sky won't be supported in 16 years, or how ever many expeditions there have been so far

Good news is, you can always save edit to get expedition rewards you missed if you really want them

The playtime accumulated in the expedition save after completion is 2:44. I wasted time on catching fishes and discovering new systems, although I could've shaved off more time by actually not rescuing civilian fleet from dreadnoughts every time I encounter them while jumping. I also used glitch building to complete freighter building milestones.

Make sure you visit the space station in the rendezvous system first, then Talk to Polo in the anomaly to get coordinates for a black hole system. Take the black hole and start looking for nearby systems that don’t have Gek/Vykeen/Korvax labels on them. These seem to be most plentiful in red systems, so if you have a cadmium drive in your ship even better.

went to both the one in the anolomy and space station, and only let me upgrade 1, ill try the next station, i even transfered suit modules to help out a bit

Re: main rewards listed in pins: #nms-expedition message which are the ones you acquire across all saves via the quicksilver vendor at the anomaly, those are a one time deal yeah. But other stuff you earn that you can bring back to your main save is separate from that.

Each terminal (1 on the system station and 1 on the Anomaly per system) should allow you to unlock 1 slot in your exosuit, regardless of whether that slot is a tech slot or cargo slot

I don't know exactly I'll have to YouTube it but you use the copy starship feature on the expedition terminal to get all iron vulture pieces for custom haulers

If you want something specific for Omega you'll probably have to wait a little until someone has written up a specific one for this one

If you have the ship you can do the copy thing on any expedition
Just claim the Vulture from the QS guy on the anomaly

It doesn’t need to be adrift to do the copy bug

i.e. there's a milestone to get a sentinel interceptor, some other stuff, maybe you want to bring specific materials for that

Hi guys, for a new player, how long would it take for me to start the game so that I can experience omega expedition as long as it is running? Is it feasible?

I thought there was a way for people to experience past expeditions, similarly to what happens with monster hunter by the time a title reaches end of support

no, you can only participate while an expedition is live

I think if you have a few hours each day you play, you could step into the expd on the weekend and see how it is, don't forget to check tips and posts in the pins in here etc, there might be some helpful things by then

you can also just start up an expedition in its own save. it reverts to the regular game after you end the expedition.

Just remember it will always be a separate save from your primary save and you cannot copy any items between this save and any others.

When starting a new save file you have the option to start the expedition. If you do that and finish the expedition that save becomes a normal save and you can play the game as normal

It’s one of the choices in the mode selection menu

this game hates me, for some reason taking a picture in any way whether with a screenshot or using the ingame photo mode, it doesnt count whatsoever

so this expedition is impossible

You can start the expedition from ANY existing save, once you complete the expedition, you van take some tech and items with you but the rest of it will be sold and you will get the cash

If you claim exped reward ships in one save and use that save to go into an exped, you can redeem the same ship for free on that expedition too
