I went by two planets already with activated copper and didn't find any storm crystals. I did find those geodes that when cracked opened gave me storm crystal, but the expedition forces you to havest them

@round panther If you scan like all the flora of a planet you can get a nanite bonus from uploading the info in your discoveries.

No googling required, just open and read

But yeah doesn't change the fact the mechanic of "go look for a critter that has hair with the blue shade of 175" isn't the most well thought out one

I had to take a photo with my phone because when I would alt-tab back into the game at the portal it would detect that I clicked the mouse button and enter an errant glyph (so I'd have to start all over).

That's probably the most difficult part.

one major hurdle for me was the ocean treasure, one of the rendevous spots is a submerged ruin however there were no chests when I got there

I had to find another one which meant building a nautilon which was annoying by itself, then I had to equip a sonar, then I realized it couldn't move as it has no fuel, and I didnt have the blueprint for it, so I had to go to the nexus to buy the blueprint just to fuel it

after that I spent about 10 minutes pinging the sonar to no avail before I realized you need to actually select submerged ruin to scan for (I dont use exocrafts at all)

if you find water on a planet, have a quick look. not going to keep you from searching specific fish... but i found combining tasks payed off. like find all creatures = nanite. while exploring, finding words... water animals and deep water goes hand in hand too

this comes down to animal spawning chances really; if an area/puddle/lake/ocean isn't spawning the right creature, simply continue moving a fair bit, like say 400u or so, and then return back to the same area where animals were spawning before

to find the one in rdv4 for example, i had to land at two different locations till it finally spawned

I think one of the rewards was a portable reactor so I was like "I'm going to craft the big thing that I can sell for lots of money" but all the steps involved were crazy and involved radon -> enriched carbon -> quantum processor

I ended up spending a couple thousand nanites at the anomaly for blueprints

Then I said screw it, loaded my restore point, and sold the portable reactor. :P

the problem is i dont have any bases there and i didnt visit any stations i spawned near a portal when i started the expedition and randomly just took off thinking it was awesome like a stargate from the show. then i ended up near a black hole and just flew though it. now i realize that was all a terrible idea even though it was fun.

i just hit random glyphs that looked interesting and went though.

@onyx pagoda just to let you know, as someone that took the portal to "somewhere way off": You can still do many of the discoveries wherever you are. I would suggest to click on "Rondevus 1", then go to your galaxy map to hopefully find a green line leading you back to where you need to be for those.

The hex exotic have 2 companions that can be pets the robotic and the floating ones for example

The exotic anomaly planet usually can have one type but variants too those variants can be scanned considering it's as more the one companions per planet too

Most expeditions, you can complete objectives in any order, unless something is locked by another obejtive. Its supposed to make you explore a bit, instead of just going to x planet and completing a set of objectives then going to the next.

So what I usually do, I look at objectives for all phases and think oh, i need a water planet, ill keep my eye out on the way

but to be fair with the redux, 99% of them can be done in RV systems, maybe just out of order

I believe originally, you had to search a lot more

The Timber/Stone/Metal Parts were put into the game several years after the prefab units. This is why some stuff doesnt work. You will also find that some lights work for prefab, but not wood etc, and some work for wood, but not prefabs.

Unless I had hindsight I wouldn't know that the second rendezvous point had irrelevant planets for the second phase

The other expeditions weren't like this from what I remembered

You are looking for planets with gold, and name types like ossified, pillared, foaming, they usually have 1 type of animal, and they usually arnt 4 legged kind.

I didnt get usual starter explorer, for some reason during my runs, I got the standard radiant pillar, which is weird when everyone else around you is in explorers. I've ran it 3 or 4 times and same each time.

I know last run I got an a class interceptor from start system, as there was a base named a class sentinel

Every planet I go I always try to go ocean if I can. I just fly above the atmosphere and circle the planet looking for the biggest patch of water on the unrendered skin and fly to the center of that. There should be islands in does large patches

If you go to a new system you can get an upgrade by paying for it. After you get the paid one you should be able to use your expansions for free.

story time!
played too long again yesterday. some days ago i "bragged" about how lucky i am at this expedition. as in, go a random planet, its a paradise, has a predator etc... it just kept on coming and yesterday i finally built a base. i enjoyed having not much time pressure.
i had almost everyhing, but going to the meeting points and the colorod stars.
i warped from a red to a blue star, near the the second(?) meetup system. ezpz ye? read whats next xd

--> get stuck IN a plant, ship shields drop rapidly, cant get free and give up
--> its past 4 am and my brain doesnt react, so i just die instead of menu-reload
--> my grave is 17 hours away o0 , the planet consists of spiky steep mountains , need to jetpack for a minute up there, slide down if you dont jetpack...
--> ship starter is broken need gold, which is at my grave
--> tries to refine gold - there are no broken machines to get the rest substance from them
--> tries to use a map-signal-card to find an outpost and maybe be able to trade something. "planetar inteferences, cant use"
--> builds a basecomputer, cant build exocraft station, neither teleporter
--> maybe there are ressources on my freighter: freighter cant fly to that system

~~i will try to find a solution in some hours, rn am just dead from playing so long. maybe i can make teleporter after all, but planet is so barren. feels like the game wants to pay back for all the luck i had. most horrible planet ~~

if you have any tips meanwhile (other than: not playing until i play in auto-mode and being noob trying expeditions...)

don't bother trying to walk there, 17h - but that said, for the future: if you face hug a wall/cliff, and jetpack, it won't drain jetpack tanks - this is a failsafe added by the devs so that we never get stuck in a hole somewhere

freighter doesn't have the needed hyperdrive color tech upgrade; don't think that you'll be able to do this but check options/difficulty/hyperdrive system access - can you change that?

mountains - yes, they are so steep, grinding along is the only way to get somewhere. i had to terrain manipulate holes to stand in, for charging live support etc. otherwise i d slide down the hole thing again

gold start thrust - i pray it was just my brain trying to sleep. am pretty sure the launch thrusters needed gold. that time when i try to sort my things differently, and everything imiportant was on the ship... argh
since my luck ended, probably no caves on this planet xd
i need to take an image later. i shouldnt hate on the planet, it looks interesting, but gosh i wish my ship would work

i'll recommend caution when dropping inside atmosphere, especially on planets that have dense fog or it's storming. that said, you can make use of photomode's move sun and fog=0% to get a better reading of your surroundings, and if there's a relatively safe place to land - don't land your ship facing a big mega flora object

I recently summoned my ship to land nearby, not knowing it would collide with a nearby megaflora - it took like 90 seconds to actually land, lol

imo i never had that dialogue in that situation. i do get warnings and units recieved msges in other situations though 🤔
to me its not at a bug, just didnt read the pop-up for scanning... dont need to hear 10 times units received when exploring a new planet.
