Polestar COMPLETE! Getting an extra hypercore was a pain in the ass because I couldn't travel to colored stars to more easily find storm crystals.
There were two extreme storm planets I found along the route & neither of them had crystals.
I eventually got an extra hypercore from a suspicious package out of a pirate station.

I also started the expedition late [only 5 days left in it] so I was rushing like mad to do it all.😅

Anyways, unless they do more expedition reruns soon, I'm finally done!
It was quite stressful sometimes, but still fun!

You don't have to redo any of that in your expedition save. For most players, it's a throwaway type of expedition since the main rewards become cross-save. But obviously in respect to this drive, yeah, you'd have to keep that save if you really wanted it

Go to a space station and check the teleporters. There were tons of player bases for me that either gave free stuff out or were named "storm crystals". Takes you to those planets instantly.

It IS possible to get storm cystals by simply shoooting a LOT of duhydrogen crystals and examining the fragments/geodes you get while doing so

Just a little tip; you can also get warp hypercores from Suspicious Packs, which pirate space stations also sell, I believe it's the goods variant.
Try that if storm crystal hunting isn't working out for you.

Yeah, whoever made it made it very easy. You just harvest the mould balls (farm is closed off so even if Sentinels see you they can't do jack), slam them in the refiners, use the teleporters to reach the end, go back, et voilá - the mould balls are there again

Just go to the space station and open the teleporter, there's dozens of player bases all with different stuff for free. The only thing I had to "grind" for were Storm Crystals but not really because there's bases on planets called "storm crystals" so you just TP and wait for a storm

How often do expeditions get released? I just started playing and was wondering how important it is to start the expedition.

They're not released that often. We have this pinned list of dates when past expeditions have released: <#nms-expedition message>

Since each expedition has its own set of exclusive rewards, I'd recommend doing this latest one we have live, before the event ends Jan 18 (as long as you can start a new save before Jan 16). It's a relatively easy expedition. And people in this channel can try to help with tips. You can also ask other basic gameplay questions in #nms-questions.

What's also cool about you starting with this expedition is that when the event ends, the save will convert to Normal mode, and you can continue your journey in that save, as if you started with a new Normal save. Or...

If you've already started a Normal save, the main rewards from the expedition save, once completed and claimed in that save, they become available in your other save(s).

And by "journey", I mean, you can complete other main story quests, like Artemis & Atlas in that converted save.

I completed it in like five hours in one sitting and the only thing I needed to "grind" myself were Storm Crystals (used a player base called Storm Crystals to get to a storm planet) and Nanites (using a player base called Nanite Farm with mould balls and refiners handy)

Just make sure you turn off MP before you take the free stuff, so its there for other peeps too

Do note that while you have until the 18th to complete the expedition, you can't create a new expedition save after the 16th (see exact time in Event detail in the channel menu). So to be safe you should start a save first then go back (before 18th) to finish it when you have time.

If they're playing the expedition, and you've converted your expedition save to Normal, you can't join each other. Normal saves can play with most other saves with the exception of Expedition and Permadeath.

Some of us choose to wait to complete a milestone till the very end to avoid save conversion in case we want to join other expedition players before the event ends.

The NipNip farms are really nice, but the resource farms help a lot as well, especially to have silver for freighter building, and many of the other resources too if you want to fix up crashed ships (granted you don’t have to repair them all the way, really no need to do that, or you can fix them up all the way later should you find one actually like). Because it takes a lot of wiring looms to get some of those slots patched up. But yeah, the income from selling Nip and other stuff some people have growing at their bases does indeed help you buy things, including wiring looms. There’s a few nanite farms too. Some of the crashed ship places don’t have a crashed ship, not for me anyway, and I have MP off (so not sure why that is).

But I did make some nice money selling crops from bases other people set up, such that I bought myself a nice red guppy in the R2 system I think it was? I love exotic ships, much better than using the starter shuttle (just imo) xD

But if you've got 100+ hrs playing NMS, even without planning, you can likely meander through Polestar in 6-8hrs without any trouble or need to check info online

There is a time limit to do the each expedition. And less two days to create a new save for it.

If the time limit runs out, it's an expedition over.

And after it ends (or you finish it before the end) the save then turns into a normal one, so you can then continue playing the normal game with it, if you want.

So expeditions are good for starting new boosted character, aside of their challenges and theme.

I found one by using one of the Space Station portals and searching for a base that says "crashed ship" or similar in the title. When I portaled there, the ship wasn't there, but you could see and interact with the Emergency Signal device, which indicated there was definitely one there to be had. If you get there and there's no ship showing up, make sure multiplayer is turned off, make a quick save (enter & exit ship or use a Save Beacon), and reload that save. The ship should show up and you can claim it. You don't have to repair everything, only the two main parts to get it off the ground and flyable.

It should allow you to do your thing

I'm too lazy to buy planetary charts, so I bought the Exocraft Radar Upgrades and installed it on my Nomad, realized I was supposed to be installing it on my Minotaur, bought the Minotaur Radar Upgrade and installed it on my Minotaur, did a few distress signal scans and found several owned crashed starships until I found the crashed starships that has no lifeform in it.

If you can't get to an area because someone put a base on there, you can report it but it takes a while for it to disappear. If you're on an Xbox, you can change your privacy settings to "not see player created content" and not have to deal with it, but it makes ALL player bases not show up. When I first started playing NMS, I could never figure out why I couldn't see anyone else or their bases. Ended up being my privacy settings were set too strict. However, this helped me get unstuck one time, when I logged off in another players base and the game wouldn't let me log back in without freezing up. Turned the "strict" setting on again and I was able to log in and move my toon someplace safer before turning the setting back off again. So, it comes in handy sometimes.

I would think that PC and PlayStation consoles also have some kind of console setting that would let you do the same thing. Just turning multiplayer off doesn't do it. That just makes you not see other players. You want to make it so you don't see or can interact with their bases, either.

Expedition 9: Utopia
Some important tips

Phase 1:

1. We start the expedition on a Paradise planet, no sentinel, no hazard.

2. We do not have access to Visor. Don’t worry about it, we have access to base computer. Build the base computer and drop 4 base parts. This will complete Milestone 1 of Phase 1 and unlock Visor.

3. You can immediately tame a critter to complete Milestone 6 of Phase 2.

Phase 2:

1. The planet has frequent sentinel, and we have to spend some time on this planet. Please visit the Sentinel Pillar (+37.54, +19.50) to turn them off.

Phase 3:
The planet has aggressive sentinel. Sentinel pillar can be found at +37.69, +57.36.

Important Note:
1) We have to register a base (drop a base computer) in order to “craft” items such as metal platings, hermetic seal etc… Please keep this in mind & farm chromatic metals.
2) Settlement, as we know, are not the same in this expedition. Every coordinate for the supposed settlements are pinned.
3) For the Phase 2 "Caldera" milestone:
You need not touch the lava, nor cross over the center of the crater. Melee boosting over a bit of the crater should be enough. Make sure you have installed all jetpack upgrades given to you (or blueprints that you are able to install) before doing this, and let your jetpack fully recover from the climb up the volcano to the top, you don' want to run out in midair. You might consider transferring all items out of suit inventory to exocraft and ship except for one ion battery and one life support gel, so you don't have to deal with recovering items from a grave if you do die. Receiving heat damage is the key to this milestone.
