They don't "kill you and take all your stuff". It's not capable to rob the Grave of another player in this game.

IF you make it back to your grave-site (the place where you died) before you die again, you can reclaim all your stuff.

HOWEVER, if you die again before you do, it's gone for good.

...they're just killing you for giggles. Because they're d!cks. Fortunately, only a small subset of them are. MOST players are chill.

There's a setting in Options under Network "Allow PvP". Set it to "No One", then only under very extreme circumstances will another player be able to damage you.
