How do you get to water planets?

Like planets that have oceans at all?

They are quite common, being in most star systems

You can easily tell if a planet has oceans by just looking at it from space with the sun facing it (you can manipulate the sun's position using photo mode)

So, I just got this game two days ago. I started out on an Ice planet, and basically went straight to fixing the ship and leaving, barely gathered any materials. The game then told me to go to another Ice planet, and I gathered copper there, and set up a very beginner-ish base. I've basically been only following the prompts the game gives me, and haven't done much gathering.

Am I playing the wrong way? Like, when do things start to pick up?

you are basically following the main quest that has a red with white icon, but at any point you can say "i dont want to follow it, i want to do what i want" and start gathering anything, upgrade your ship, travel elsewhere, build a better base, its a sandbox so there isnt a wrong way to play, follow the missions at your rythm, there will be stuff locked behind quests but you can decide if you want to speedrun them or take your time :D

Other than #nms-legacy-ships message, not really (this doesn't work with fabricated ships or corvettes, and inventories/class are reset/rerolled)

You could also be given corvette modules or starship fabrication modules by another player, to build your own ship manually

well, it would take a long time, however, if you do the other main quest, the "Artemis" path, then it will give you portal glyphs, you can then use those to travel to 100 light-years away, and then it should be smooth sailing from there

Why does almost every planet have life on it? Like there's life even on supposed "dead" planets underground, as well as the biohorrors in the eggs on those dead planets. There's never a planet that is truly dead, and I find that weird

i noticed that my boltcaster in the expedition has kinda more clunky dps than the one i have in the main save
transferred my 3 sentinel upgrades here and i rigged 3 s class boltcaster upgrades
trying to find whats different i notice that there are less upgrades that have burst cooldown on them than the main save
i am leaning towards that being what makes the dps feel clunky
so im starting to think that for best sutained dps, outside of damage (which you can't not have), and if you have 3 sentinel upgrades that give 20% fire rate each, the best 3 stats to focus on s class boltcaster upgrade modules might just be burst cooldown, shots per burst,, and clip size (to have to reload less frequently)

Try 100 first so there's no risk of your gpu trying to run more frames than your monitor can. so you'd be shooting for 200 FG fps for starters then work you're way up.

dont worry about other ships/corvettes atm, try not to overwhelm yourself. any ship with upgrades that you install on it can be a great ship - a C class ship with s-class upgrade modules is nothing to scoff at. for upgrades you're going to need nanites mostly. there's no need to specialize in the game: even not-a-fighter-ship can do combat easily, it's a lot more about looks and upgrades. corvettes are really nice though it does take a bit to get a basic one up and running

how to obtain ships: either buy them from npc pilots at stations/trade outposts/etc, or find them crashed. korvax systems have more explorer designs

in short, the save file cannot infinitely store and protect terrain edits - and so when that limit is reached, it just basically stops storing/protecting those edits from regenerating

oh i see. not sure, but afaik glitch building techniques are still a thing. personally, i like to bury dome and then just free placing, but this only works with biome native plants

my early "loop" is basically this: get nanites from zoology, to buy 3 s-class visor modules from the multitool upgrade module shop in the station, to install on my tool, to buff my unit scanning rewards, up to some 450k units per rare fauna scan. that gets me all the pocket cash i need for early on. that said, there's lots of ways, others a bit more "advanced". for example, finding a planet with salvageable scrap containers, looting them for corvette parts and loot to sell (corvette parts themselves can be sold for units too). also see <#nms-questions message>

Depends on the class, but yes as said you have to use the ship you're given in this expedition

You could find one as the main and use the upgrades you take

there are systems and planets where players build up player communities - but there isnt a "goto for trade", nms doesn't really have a player economy - most players just sell stuff to npcs and trade terminals. pretty much any item can be reobtained, and most often quite easily. in fact, trades are often arranged off game, and then a player just joins another' session in game. to send an item to another player, approach them, open inventory, cursor over item, hit quick transfer button, select remote player name you want to transfer to. we cannot send packaged tech/packaged upgrade modules.

Outlaw systems is a 100% spawn rate when the freighter battle event spawns (3 hours played + 5 warps between battles), but only if you already have a freighter and space combat is not set to none

It will be on your freighter, or you can summon it on the ground. Keep in mind to repair the brain it's easier (perhaps required) to use a repair kit from an outlaw station

Can't summon a ship?

If you don't have a freighter or have more than 6 active ships, go to a base on a planet, and save+reload restore point. A quick way to update restore point is to enter+exit ship/seat.

You should now be able to quick menu/summon any of your ships, regardless of its condition.

This is a failsafe added by the devs to ensure players never lose ships in their collection.

I asked this earlier in a different way, but now I'm really confused. The systems with a 100% of a Dreadnaught fight got moved/changed with the patch. I had two pirate systems beside each other that always had these fights.

yellow systems are too, but their biome chances are modified in Lush and Empty galaxies.
In Normal/Harsh galaxies, yellow systems "lack" red/green/blue systems as prime planets but that's it for truly lacking something
