So I've finished the autophage quest got my first basic staff, farmed some atlantid multitools that I've turned into void motes and bought some autophage cosmetic parts. Yet the autophage race is still locked in the appearance modifier. Can someone explain me why?

You can install the advanced mining laser in your multitool inventory. If you donāt have it yet, youāre probably early enough in the game where you should just focus on the main quest line

How does one find out the "build parts" limit before you hit it?

Does the landing pad only extend out to one entrance? I wanted to put it between two buildings but I canāt get it to connect on both sides. š

I've been able to connect 4 prefabs to 1 landing pad, 1 per side, might have to place the pad and then the buildings off of that since the alignment may be just a bit off if you had other buildings placed before trying to connect to the pad.

It aligned with one door and even made a walkway to it. But wonāt to the door on the opposite side

Yeah Iāve got the door to be next to the platform but I donāt have the walkway atm. Was the best I could do. Iāll probably just leave it like that for now then. I just wanted a separate building space for those aliens that come to work at mine.
I have used the floor panels to go all the way around a pad, just didn't have a railing from the pad to the door.

I know I've put down parts and ended up having to re do parts of a base, can take some time to get the hang of where and how things snap or where it will let you stick things in free place.
Biggest bug bare right now is the stairs coming through the ceiling. Second to the science and building terminals sticking through the ceiling. It feels like everything is too tall for a standard room. Do they fit in the prefabs?

The normal wall bits and the cube prefabs are the same size, I think the round and square prefabs are slightly taller though...
Certain parts I think are even too tall for them, I know the one base I put my terminals in I did make 2 story tall rooms just for everything that didn't fit in 1 level rooms.

They give some base parts and the farmable plant blueprints, a couple are needed for the main story but the other couple apparently aren't.
You are able to do what is needed for the main mission then do the rest later if desired.
All the stuff for parts and such is available for unlocking in the anomaly, so can be possible to already have them by time you get to the quests.

That dude doesn't do anything other than that. You gotta clear out the items in the ship, then follow the quest instructions to get the items necessary

that wasn't a sentinel ship then, that's something else, zeb is right, you'll clear out stuff from the ship, then craft the pilot interface guided by the questline that should appear
There is always a wrecked autophage on the ground by sentinel ships, thats the 0101011 message hes talking about..thats what they say when you give them atlantadium or whatever the mineral is called

I found it using an Anomoly Detector thing, came here, fed it the crystals, and then I got that dialogue and nothing else

You need to have completed Thry Who Returned before they will spawn, and they only appear in Korvax systems
Guys, if you have ever experience a settlement side quest defend from sentinel glitch (ENDLESS SPAWN)
i found the fix,
- Restart the game
- make sure you fight inside the settlement grounds (if you go far enough, it will RESET)
- Make sure you KILL all TRIANGLE SENTINELS & HEALERS first (bcus they will keep spawning sentinels)
then you kill the rest, mission complete

did you place decorative parts like a poster?
I have a few decorative parts on the interior yeah
sometimes there can be glitches with those, there was another person with the same issue. try removing those parts. and there might be some outside the building zone so hover on a planet and see if there's any parts sticking out

When you complete the expedition and looted everything you want from the expedition save on the main save side of your save

Basically, you turn off internet once you put the file into your NMS folder, and don't turn it back on until you are completely done with the expedition

After you are completely done with the expedition and gotten everything you want or need transferred to your main save, you can turn it back on

Have you ever done an expedition before?
When you start an expedition, you can either start as a brand new save, or use an existing save to start it in the anomaly, in which case you can transfer items into your expedition to make it run faster (some guides actively recommend this), when you are done, you can then use the same terminal on the expedition side of the save, and put the stuff into that terminal, save, then revert baco to your main side of the save, and take the stuff you put in from the expedition
And once you are completely done, you can then press "End Expedition" button on your main side to transfer the currencies over from expedition. This point is when you can turn the internet back on

I tried stellar extractors before back in my early NMS days but I stopped using them quite soon, it's either very buggy or I didn't know how to use properly but I basically got nothing out of extractors, their contents keep disappearing
theyve never worked properly for me either.
I seriously dont know whats up at hello games. Stellar extractors get totally wild contents unrelated to their actual function. Refiners on a freighter are barely more reliable except as a means to dupe things. Dont even talk about atmosphere or mineral harvesters. But hey, heres a trash truck update.

Max base stat is 14 and a good C class frigate when Leveled can out stat an S class with high expedition by quite a bit
General when recruiting frigate is good idea to shoot for 8 or 9 base stat. From my understanding
pragmatically, who has time for that? Its more important to get a fleet running missions. With a cap of 30 ships its easy to keep some slots free by firing whatevers not good when levelled to S. The hire to C classes to fill the empty slots and level. the fleet becomes good enough to do everything way before it becomes perfect. but if perfection is required you can keep going.
Hi! just started playing the game, the red ball thing at the crashed ship gave me 2 options, I pressed leave thinking I'd maybe be able to come back to it again afterwards? but its gone.. what did I do? and how easily will I be able to access the other option at a later date if at all, or is it worth restarting my save?
Eh not looking for perfection just a steady base line. Passed up on some ships that had negative base stats but initially they looked good before checking base stat value

At some point you want to just fire all (but one of) non support frigates anyway because fuel free missions is really where its at.
Yes, they do, but while it may not look that way, an endgame freighter can hit 150 cap across all 4 stats fairly trivially

S class support frigates can have broadly balanced good stats.
Freighter upgrades boost mission scores even more.
So fleets of only support frigates can 5* for highest tier rewards anyway. And be fuel free on even the longest expeditions if you concentrate on firgates with expedition fuel cost bonuses.

My freighter can hit 150 to all stats on every voyage while my frigates only need to supply something like 60 points (everything thing else is based off the freighters bonuses). 60 points is trivial for even 3 fully levelled support frigates to meet, nevermind 5

I think the optimal use of time is: fill a fleet with potentially bad frigates that you can start levelling and run derelict freighters to get fleet modules.
vs. spending your time searching for "perfect" forever frigates that you have to run without the benefit of fleet modules.

Fastest way to fleet modules is to destroy system "freighters" (Look like freighters but one cant enter them) in non-pirate systems
They always give a S-class module for a small penalty with the race that inhabitates the system (try NOT to shoot the cargo to minimize favor-loss)
idk where they are kept now but I once found a portal co-ordinate to a system where the path to the final room requires you to run through 3 low risk rooms. It literally takes 2 minutes to do if you can resist looting chests.
nah if the specialty stat is below 10, it's not even worth considering, usually I go for 13-20 base specialty stat
Base stats are without any level up bonus or traits.
Also support frigates are pretty good IMO, and those do not even have a specialty.
If you are going for high stats, getting organic frigates is the way to go anyway
the least time strategy for new players is to hire pretty indiscrimnately at first to get missions rolling and frigates levelling. As you start getting S class support frigates, fire the speciality frigates and replace with more c class support that you level. Dont spend time searching for perfect frigates. spend time getting fleet upgrade modules for the freighter.
As these start with 0 expedition (meaning they can level up as much as possible) independent of their stats making organics that start as S-class very very strong

There is a setting in there that disables mods, flip the argument to reenable mods again

Their engine seems to do some stuff different than most other games.
E.g. When I minimize NMS, all other games are locked at like 2-5 fps lol

Oodalooper has done some really good youtube videos. In one of them he said the best supercharge slot distribution is 3 plus 1 because he uses three for the main weapon and one for manoeuvrability. The first time I found an exotic it had four supercharge slots in a square. That seemed good to me but Oodalooper said it was the worst because it is the least flexible. I get that with diminishing returns it might not make sense to puta all 4 supercharge slots towards the same thing but I don't really understand why 4 in a square couldn't be used for 2 and 2 or 3 and 1 just by grouping different things into and around the slots. Can someone please explain what their ideal supercharge slot arrangement is and why it might be better to have space between? Thanks

I think where the YT was coming from is the adjacency bonuses
If you were to split a 2x2 into two different clusters, the two halves can only ever have 3 adjacent bonuses, because the side that is shared between the two halves would most likely not able to get any adjacency bonuses
If you used it as a 3+1, the issue would be exacerbated because the 1 would only receive 2 adjacency bonuses and the 3 also cannot receive their full adjacency bonuses
I thought you could only have 3 upgrades for an element and occasionally one or two other things that are in the same adjacency compatible group. So is the ideal to have a block of 6 elements with two supercharge slots in the middle like a sandwich?

Depends on what you are exactly boosting
Some blocks can have 7 or even 8 techs like warp or or pulse drives
so even my nice black and blue interceptor with a pause button style vertical two and two with only one layer of normal slots between is kind of too close as well
That isn't so bad for two blocks, especially if one of the blocks are weapons

Well that (4 supercharged pulse jets or hyperdrives) works for the run where I found the 4 square - It was my Biologist run where I couldn't leave a system until I had scanned all the animals from all the planets. Not really a combat approach. It had been an explorer but that doesn't really help with exploration on the small scale anyway sadly. Maybe they should add some features to the explorer like a "c" scan from the air always marks one additional feature on the ground... something. Anything especially now that Freighters can warp further (so i have heard)

For ships, I am using 2+2, one of the 2 is for a 5 block weapon (tucked away in the corner) and another middle for pulse drive

You can not recruit a living frigate if your fleet already has 30 frigates.
You can only recruit a living frigate once per system.
With Dream Aerial (Required for your first)
To obtain your first organic frigate, send out fleet expeditions until you receive a blueprint for the Dream Aerial. Craft the Dream Aerial (1 Solar Mirror and 3 Living Glass) and pulse drive in space with your ship. You will get an encounter with an organic frigate that asks many questions to determine the stats of the frigate. After you finish the questions, claim the living frigate.
Using the Dream Aerial randomizes class, which is otherwise fixed per system. The Dream Aerial is only used this first time, don't hold on to it: delete it or give it to another player that needs one.

With Anomaly Detectors
After acquiring your first organic frigate, you may now use Anomaly Detectors to acquire more. These are rare drops from blowing up asteroids.
Activate pulse drive (as stated above, use an Anomaly detector before doing so). Keep your pulse drive fueled as this may take some time depending on the system. While pulsing you may see alerts for rare objects or traders, ignore them. The Anomaly detector will be consumed if you exit pulse. Continue pulsing until you receive a Whalesong signal to discover a living frigate with these price ranges:
C-Class: 7,500,000 - 12,500,000 units.
B-Class: 15,000,000 - 25,000,000 units.
A-Class: 26,250,000 - 43,750,000 units.
S-Class: 37,500,000 - 62,500,000 units.
Known Issues:
- If you have a void egg in any of your inventories, its space encounter will keep spamming you, and can prevent you from getting the Whalesong signal encounter. To workaround this bug, retrieve the egg and store it in your suit, then go to space, pulse until hailed by the alien mothership, and select Hatch on the dialog. Ignore the Starbirth mission marker, you can now select any different mission, and return to using anomaly detectors.
- If you begin to notice any odd graphical glitches, stop and pulse in the opposite direction.

Additional Info
Feeding food to an organic frigate (freighter fleet management terminal > click on an organic frigate), will change its stats. Anything you feed a specific frigate should always reproduce that same result.
For example:
Feeding your frigate item A yields one result. Feeding it item B yields another. If you feed it item A again, it will be the same result you got the first time you fed it item A.

No, because the ship your void egg points to can be controlled
And those spots will spawn the same living ship if the egg points towards it
so if i go through void egg and in the last stage i come to this location will i get this one

If your void egg points to that spot, then the living ship pictured in the image will show up at that spot

You only need to go through the quest once
Every subsequent eggs just points straight to a living ship, no need to grow it from the start again
Though you still need to pulse around with the egg in your inventory to start the trigger

when you're in a black hole system (marked on galaxy map as such), but you've lost track of it, switch to cockpit camera, use the mini radar to locate the purple sphere

You don't need to, that's just for the first system as part of the quest.

well, short and easy answer is no. if you want to farm s-class modules, destroy it without destroying engines (yeah, there's enough time before it warps away)
all purple star systems are dissonant - dissonant tag overrides any other, except gas giant
well, i usually destory their warp first, and then their guns and they surrender, so how exactly do i get the modules?

destroy it, leave engines intact: e.g. shoot shield gens+fuel rods, when last fuel rod is out shoot it anywhere e.g. in the trench walls
Go for the shields and then fuel rods that appear in the place of shields, there's enough time to destroy it

No, you can't
There's a difference between installable tech mods (which you get the blueprint for) and upgrade mods (which you need to buy/find but don't have blueprints for)
The game doesn't do a good job of showing the difference, but you can install all of the ones you have a blueprint for, plus up to 3 upgrades. If you add another upgrade, they'll all become inactive until you remove one

You can transfer the existing base when exchanging freighters, yes. And the frigates serve you, not the freighter, so they come too.

without just redoing the whole thing, i think the only possible way there is is through a save editor to move all the parts by the exact amount. this ofc, only possible if you run (or could run) the game on pc.

it really ruins the fantasy when im playing with multiplayer off but still find systems and planets discovered by other people. even other peoples bases. this really shouldnt be in single player imo. ruins the immersion.
If you go completely offline I think discovery services are also off so you won't see if anything is already discovered

And if you ever leave Euclid you will see even less people. I've been in eissentam for months and have only found other discovered systems when traveling to specific coordinates.
Even the first galaxy is way way way less than 1% explored, most people are concentrated in specific areas
I believe everyone spawns in a ring something like 700-750 thousand light-years from the core about on the same y level so moving out of that ring will lead to unexplored area

did you try to save+restart game? teleport out and back in? should take the rename as well iirc. if not, i'd suggest raising a bug report when you get a bit of spare time

try using several pieces: barnacle and candelabra bloom (quicksilver shop), sphere creator (construction research station), some of the space station decorations (construction research station), and some of the exterior lamp poles. the way you can play with light reflections off other objects can also help

Here are some workarounds for the infinite loading bug on Xbox:
- Launch NMS, When the red ring appears, launch a different game entirely. Two games will appear in your quick resume (NMS and the other game). Go back to NMS and it should get you to the main menu. Close the other game on the quick resume menu.
- If it was already on quick resume when you get stuck, close and relaunch NMS.
- Restart console.
- Clear the cache and relaunch NMS.

Oh, not reusing them? Those 2 portals will still be subject to portal interference (can't summon your ship/freighter, can't teleport, can't warp, can't build). None of the other portals in the game (and there are trillions) have that issue anymore

Just to make sure so you don't accidentally delete something you shouldn't, you need to delete your NMS cross save from the in game UI not the Xbox cloud save from the console UI or any other save
When teleporting in to a base, and I'm in a corvette, what determines the position of the corvette? The teleporter, or the base computer?
Mods do not remove this limit whatsoever

Yes, and cartographer charts will never lead you to a portal, they will lead you to a monolith that you need to use to find the portal
so if it sends me to the monolith from that planet, i skip that one
You will need to clear the icon or it will never send you to another monolith
So keep at it. It's a specific cartographer that you need to talk to, and portals can be found later
I picked up an Emergency Signal Scanner from the anomoly and the wiki says I can get one per week from there.

Hi I'm new to the game and claimed a broken ship on a planet with the intention of going back to a station with my main ship to summon it and scrap it for money. Turns out you can't summon critically damaged ships and now I'm wondering if there's any way to get it back or if it's forever stuck on some random planet
One of my favourite thing is the frigate expeditions. I remember ME3 had this mobile app where I could send my squads to similar missions. Question is, does NMS has got similar mobile app to coordinate expeditions on your phone while you're offline?
there's a way to get it but it escapes me right now. i think you can select as primary on a base or station then save/reload and it should be nearby? memory is fuzzy

Go back down to a planet and summon it there. Fix the launch and pulse, then you can summon it on a station.

Here's the downside. If you pulsed an entire fuel supply in the other direction, you may be very far away now and need to get fuel.

focus on t3 eco and outlaw systems; remember that there's lots of cabinets in an inhabited system, not just the station's or the anomaly's

what should i focus on
the barebones build is pretty much going to have 3 s-class upgrade modules (ones you buy from space station vendors) for the basic systems: pulse engine, hyperdrive, weapons you'll be using, shields, launch thruster (perhaps you wont need that much launch thruster because of being able to beam down). remember that any s-class corvette can be upgraded to 60 tech. i'd build the corvette like i wanted, then in the end install the usual 3 s-class modules of each type
and then over time, replace those S-tier modules with X-tier modules
(unless you learn about rerolling, then "over time" becomes "now")

Yeah, you can connect modules of different classes, they will still have adjecancy bonuses
exterior platforms/catwalk - and then building rooms floating several "floors" above, can help you achieve both open spaces and big palace size rooms

Well it's potential for a reason and there no conditions for a weapons to meet so why won't it be actual dmg?
check out <#no-mans-sky message>. in short, ideal SC layout and neutron cannon.
You need some good x-class mods and SC slots close together.
damage potential is a rough estimation of what it will do - but it's highly dependent on what weapon tech, or what weapon techs in the case of ships, are installed. it's not the same output as hud damage numbers.

Summary: To more fairly compare two different MT/Ships, strip them both down to bare techs, ensuring nothing is supercharged.

well, staffs arent exactly the top miners, but have you installed mining beam side by side runic lens (since it's an atlas staff we're talking about)?

yes, but we can install mining beam on the side to buff runic lens (or hijacked laser, in the case of a sentinel tool) even more; only runic lens/hijacked laser will appear on the switch list.

nah, welcome to the server, always feel free to ask. hehe exotic biome planets - yeah, they're alright. you can tell that you're looking at an exotic biome planet when you scan it and it has gold on the resource list. they wont ever have storms. there's other subtypes too. try and keep an eye out for ones like sporal/capped/fungal

My Sentinel I think it is, from an Expidition, staff will mine forever almost and not heat over. I would have to go to main save but it has I think 20k dam too? I get mixed up when I play different saves. This game has been good to me:)

derelict freighter engineering room upgrade module class that drops is fixed per system - just got to keep trying diff systems till you find one. that said, there's other drop sources for freighter upgrade modules too, a couple of which can only drop s-class modules. see <#nms-commands message>

remember, spectral class letters make it really easy to identify them, and red stars are also the biggest stars in the galaxy map
you are always able to teleport to any claimed base computer, regardless of what galaxy or star system they're in
And you don't even need a teleporter to get back, which is usually counter-intuitive. You only need a teleporter inside your base if you want to teleport out of it. not to it.
this makes for really helpful and quick bookmarks

in summary, same place you can add cargo slots, same place you can add tech slots: you just need to first select a tech slot/the tech inventory, then you apply the upgrade

@bleak ruin remember that there's space-side, there's 2 exosuit inventory upgrade stations per system: space station, and space anomaly; if you got exosuit expansion units to use, you can only make use of them when interacting with a previously used upgrade station. finally, there's hundreds of drop pods in the same system, locating them is easy and cheap: either using exosuit upgrade charts, or exocrafts with the radar amplifier tech upgrade installed (cheaper in the long run)

well, the type of the tool doesn't really matter for the weapon tech you like to use; the supercharged slot layout of a tool might influence what they'll be used for (see <#nms-commands message>)
Depends on your playstyle. I like to get up-close and personal with them, so i choose the scatter blaster

where are the upgrades for boltcaster
Space stations for example
space station mt upgrade module shops for s-class ones, space anomaly for techs, x-class modules from various sources e.g. outlaw station black market dealer and if you'll want to spend the time getting the strong rolls, salvaged glass from non corrupted sentinels for sentinel weapon modules (which only buff boltcaster)

when you kill sentinels, they drop salvaged glass. unpack salvaged glass, and you can get "forbidden upgrade modules" (they exist for exosuit and weapon, which is actually just for boltcaster). when installed, they get a question mark as their class symbol

i also had some fun lately, when i was hunting for the wormskin folios. Turns out that my Scatter Blaster kills those worms in just 2 shots š

it's going to come down to gameplay preference/feel, and if you wanted to really try and milk more out of it, have a nicer, more ideal supercharged slot layout
Yeah, if you're looking for the highest possible damage, you just take the sentinel MT, or the Staff and install whatever you like inside
e.g. i use pulse spitter on any tool that i have that i designated as a "damage dealer", because i'm a pulse spitter fan now
since it's easy to change through active multitools, many players will just focus on a single weapon per damage tool, so that they can use all supercharged slots to buff that
the same could be said about scanning and mining oriented tools
