Locating a Portal

1. Obtain the race relic item to give to a Monolith, [see this post](#nms-questions message);

📚 Notes:

• Portals don't have to be unlocked via any quest.
• To fully use the portal network, the player must unlock all 16 portal glyphs and purple star systems.

• A portal is not the same as a teleporter. (see image )

depends how far away you are and how far you can jump

new spawns are about 700kly from the core, i think? and the max freighter jump is 5kly. so thats 140 freighter jumps. you can cut down on fuel use by using black holes, which will each throw you to a random point in the galaxy but guaranteed to be something like 5-7kly closer

or you can use portals and look up coordinates to a system close to the core, get there in one portal jump

sorry for the late reply. not a damaged component, it would say "critically damaged" if it was; just a negative trait it currently has. the next rankup will clear that negative, then another one later will add another positive, and so on, till 5 positive traits, when it becomes s-class.

The ones randomly found? Sometimes they have small cargo pods with unimportant loot in them, shooting these can cause a pirate ambush.

There are also ones that you can land on and explore, but these must be manually located using an Emergency Signal Scanner, which is bought from the Scrap Dealer aboard Space Stations

Is a Corvette the “same” as a Freighter? I don’t have either one yet but i’m not really sure what the difference is tbh

They are extremely different.
Freighters are incredibly colossal, similar to the size of a space station, and are basically your own personal summonable/warpable space station that you can land your ship inside and do stuff in, as well as build a base area in it and command a fleet of frigates to do errands for you for resources. Freighters cannot be piloted by the player.
Corvettes are just another type of Starship, being much larger than all other types of starships but still are able to be piloted fully and land aboard space stations/freighters. Their shape is completely custom, determined by the player in a special corvette editor menu where they can build the ship out of corvette modules. Some corvette modules add technology to them that improve their stats. Corvettes can be directly piloted by the player, as they are starships. Corvettes cannot land on most regular landing pads though, they have special versions of those for space stations/freighters.

there are several way, some are illegal,. some are too dangerous, but hey, high risk high rewards

1. i think easiest for me is grabbing gravitino balls on planets filled with sentinels
2. growing illegal weed farms (take alot of early investment) but high trade values, and you can keep it constants
3. the new method, hunting for gold scrapable items (hunting ship module), and while at that nab you a free corvette (fly around without using landing fuel)

Don't break timers

Messing with your system clock has the potential to break every single thing that relies on a real timer. Settlements, frigate missions, farms, mines, freighter battles and time gates such as the Starbirth Quest. Just don't do it.

Just got this settlement.

Two buildings are already partially "filled" with soil due to terrain generation and being a settlement .. I cannot use terrain manipulator on it.

Will it cause issues later on? Like inaccessible buildings?

• ooh, it should/it might/it probably will flatten the ground once those buildings are upgraded
• otoh, it might not do that, and a dev fix would be needed

You are allowed upto 4 settlements, only one per planet. What a lot do is get one of each of the races, like I have. I found a blue-green earth like world, and set-up a settllement there, and the very first task there (after building the overseer office) was an invite to an autophage settlement on another world in the same system

So I had two settlements very quickly. I then went to neighbouring systems and setup settlements for the other two races

now have 4 settlements all on paradise worlds

I can only give a tip like you don't actually have to wait for the plants to grow, just make sure you have more of what said plants produces and you can instantly turn in the quest as soon as you placed said plant.

Also with the exocraft ones you can just use your ship to get to said locations, you don't have to spend hours going with the exocrafts

I'll be honest.

The multiplayer side of the game is buggy as hell.

It's a sandbox game so no real goal or end game. But it has story missions which is either love or hate sort of thing. (I personally love it. Things are vague, leaves a lot for your imagination, but definitely not the "holding your hand" kind of story that tells you exactly what's what. But it leaves a lot for theories.)

There's TONS of lore apart from missions too.

Even though there's no end game, the game has content for thousands of hours of play. It's just .. How to put it .. It's more about the journey than the destination you know?

The community is awesome. (Shame the multiplayer is so buggy.)

Overall its easily 4/5 🌟 game for me.

At 1135 hours myself .. There was many games in the past that I did regret buying. NMS was 100% worth it though.

It's just buggy in general. Like 70% of the bugs you run into when playing can be fixed by turning off multiplayer.

Like for example once I had a mission marker on planet A and as I went there the marker moved to planet B and this happened over and over again.

There's fixes for almost everything .. And when shit happens just report the bugs. The devs still regularly (like every 2-3 months) gets big updates and bug fixes too, the latter is more frequent after every big update

That really depends how easily you get side tracked ..

First time it took me like 2-3 hours just to leave the first system, which is kind of the tutorial part.

But then again the whole main missions and many unique side quests works kinda like a tutorial showing and teaching you thing. Which can take well over 50 hours .. First time it took me ~120 hours to finish them and it was ages ago, we had many more content added to the game every since .. But I also got sidetracked a lot tbh

I know its a bit late but these modules are for certain things, weapon ones only seem to affect the boltcaster, and exosuit ones have a wide range of stats like bonuses to life support, health, shield, ect.
You can only have 3 active ones of each type, but doesn't hurt to install them all and then dismantle the worst, saving the 3 best. You can get some materials by doing that.

So... I'd REALLY like to know why I can't dock to derelict freighters. Got the emergency scanner, used the pulse drive that would spawn it in, checked for a landing pad and tried landing on it. Every attempt has the pad ignoring both my corvette and small ships.

I'm not sure it's possible for there to be a truly sentinel-free system. If such a system existed, it would likely be either uncharted or abandoned systems. These are systems with no dominant lifeform so you can find htem easily by filtering the galaxy map. Though even there I assume there are actions you can take to summon sentinels.

using a corvette ship to farm a freighter is done differently yes. in short, and afaik, you'll have to play with reloading your autosave, instead of your restore point, and you dont even need to do the battle (just park ship in space with hatch facing freighter you want, leave seat, open hatch, use visor to aim at npc freighter to see stats (need to be close enough)

in short, there's always going to be sentinels at least guarding secure buildings - but with low sentinel presence level you basically wont see them spawning out in the wild. that said, many planets have a building type called sentinel pillar, which can be used and even reused to shutdown sentinels planet wide when needed.

that's what's supposed to happen, but the battle should retrigger as well. basically, you need to make sure that your autosave is always before your restore point - in short, you exit seat only after confirming that your autosave has triggered with the battle running. but ofc, you can't ever exit ship in the station in the same system the battle triggered.

I like running a settlement myself. There was a learning curve for sure, but once I figured it all out. It became a fun chore and the benefits are nice for what I do. It helps with immersion I thinks as well

The first two saved freighters will always be regular freighters with at most 19 inventory slots. Starting with the third freighter, they will always be Capital Freighters.

You can trick it too.

When you see the fight and don't like the looks of said freighter just reload a restore point (restore points are manual saves you get when leaving a ship or using any save points) and jump into a different system. You'll get a different looking freighter.

If you find the one you like the looks of than just do the fight, land on said freighter and look at the freighters walls with scanner to see the class of said freighter. If you aren't happy with said freighter just reload the restore point and warp to the exact same system and do the fight again. Repeat until you're happy both with the looks and class.

Finding the same system you jumped to can be a pain though, but with little extra effort you can make it easy.

Before warping place a waypoint on the system you're going to, back out, save and just then warp.

This way you'll have that system marked when you reload in case you want a better class.

What's the range of positive and negative settlement features when you first get it? My first one had 1 positive and 4 negative

they all start bad like that, in debt too - progress it enough, and it will eventually have 18 positive traits lol

The C is not an upgrade module

it's a blueprint tech

If it was an upgrade, it would say it's class in the subtitle

1 expedition=1 room, even if you send 5 frigates on the SAME expedition it will take only ONE fleet room(notice that if you sent one group of frigates on for example trade expedition and other on industrial it will take 2 rooms)

should let you retire after it says that you're free to explore and you're not doing any building projects, upgrading or anything

I also have this issue, finishing the building didn't sort it.

Got the trace of metal quest popping up for said settlement after the building is finished, so I'm just hoping after I finished with that I can retire from that spot

i got a random signal and decided to check it out and accidentally enrolled myself into managing a settlement having no prior experience with it in a system i had no involvement with outside of an in and out base research quest
unfortunately the building is going to take like an hour 😭

@lost raptor and btw, even if you deleted the fleet command rooms for some reason, or exchanged freighter while you have expeditions running - they'll be fine. fleet command rooms will be needed to debrief ofc.

well, note that eventually, you wont necessarily need to send 5 frigates on an expedition, you're not forced to that - as long as fleet is strong enough

They level up, C is absolutely fine. Go for ones with less fuel need so you don't have to farm so much fuel

I bought my first frigate long time ago but just noticed that it had 2 negative traits, will they disappear as frigate lvl ups or i need to sell it and get new?

c-class frigates hired with less than 4 completed expeditions can often get to become stronger than s-class naturals - just depends on how bad a higher class natural was. but ofc, higher class frigs, stronger stats - so early on, if you got the units to spend, and see a nice higher class one that would help the fleet in the shorter term, feel free to get it.

Aside from using a teleporter ofc, is their any way to travel back to my starting system? I went through a relic gateway not only once but twice yesterday… first time sent my 800kly away and the next one sent me 1.3mly away

starter system is marked, but if you traveled far away, you're not really going to reach it anytime soon if you're just warping. galaxy map isn't really well suited for long distance warping with a specific system in mind

yea my plan was to travel back home once i get my freighter up an running (i heard it’s the best at long distance travel) but i just thought it was weird my starting system marker couldnt be seen on the galaxy map anywhere
