3D printed this model a year ago, got overwhelmed with the prep/cleanup though, so I only came back to it now. Airbrushed red base (new to AB). Painters tape to backmask red decals. Dry brushed everything to hide some ugly spots. The windscreen is like 5 coats of black tinted glaze with mica over dry brushed chameleon purple paint. Craft acrylics because I'm cheap 😅

Thanks! I'm gonna try a guppy exotic next, but I'm tweaking the model I found online so I can print it in pieces. I want to try and make it so the engine pods/clamshell open up like my first exotic ship

Yeah, I figured the added challenge is acceptable if I dont get caught up in the details.
The tough part is they're so clean and shiny in game, it may be difficult to match that level. At least the fighters in game are beat up, so I can use dry brushed weathering to hide flaws 😆

I may try dipping the print in resin for a smooth finish. That might help actually

However, my screenshot quality has been getting worse and worse, I think it’s a Steam thing because they looked fine when I took the screenshots in game. There’s also having to transport it from steam to my files, to my iCloud then to procreate, then back again to my iCloud. But the edges aren’t as crisp now 😭

hey, btw. about how steam compresses screenshots;
you can make a folder that steam sends uncompressed versions of ingame screenshots to. go to Steam>settings>in game>save an uncompressed version of my screenshots and select the folder you want to send them to.

Hey, how are you? I'd like to show you some silly drawings I made about mechanics that could be put into the game. I would upload these drawings to Zendesk, to the feedback section so that Hello Games can understand my idea in an easier way. I will explain each one to you soon.

1. Planets seen from the surface of other planets look like "stars", making views and distance scales more realistic. This in turn would make the planets farther apart.

2. As you know, the mechanics of diverting energy between different modules of the ship were implemented. Well, it would be nice and more comfortable if there was a screen/hologram on the ship that tells us where the energy is right now and we can adjust it more precisely. Since the mechanics have just been implemented and have a lot of room for improvement and evolution.

3. A map of the local planetary system. Not much of an introduction is necessary, this map indicates the stellar bodies (planets, moons, stars...), space stations, where our freighter is, the Space Anomaly, among other things. And through that selector, we select something and it gives us more detailed information.

What do you think? Would you like these additions to the game?

PS: I know the drawings are not visually very pretty, they are concepts lol

I like the second and third idea but I disagree with the first one because I like looking at other planets.

To be completely honest, I don’t really think that those would be particularly useful, since a) I like seeing big planets from the surface, b) diverting power that precisely wouldn’t give that much benefit, and c) there’s already the discoveries tab and the HUD.
The second idea I think would be neat, but I don’t see much potential with expanding on power diversion

Almost forgot to show you guys today’s work doodle: I drew some older characters from this (what I think) really unique story idea I have but don’t have a good story line for it lol.
This is four of the 12 protagonists. I know that’s a lot lol.
I’m also realizing that I need to update how I draw human/humanoid faces because front on is hard 😅

Well, regarding the energy diversion, it would be a mechanism to make that function more comfortable since currently, you have to press the button passing energy until you reach the module you want, in addition, it only tells you in the first seconds where the energy is. and then it doesn't (except in combat), not to mention that sometimes it changes on its own. This would give it greater intuitiveness and usefulness when flying.

And regarding how the planets look seen from others, that is more subjective. Seeing that in recent years NMS has been leaving that science fiction style of the 70s-80s to embrace a more realistic style (the new space stations or the Starborn Runner are a clear example) well, I think that, like the designs , spatial scales could also undergo this change. But it's my opinion!

Another wild idea appeared!
It occurred to me that on foot (both in first and third person), there could be a graphic radar that, like on the ship, would show us nearby elements, the ship, elements of interest such as the bases, cardinal points... So such as the time of day on the planet and the coordinates where you are. This radar in turn could replace the current compass and thus show the cardinal points more clearly. What do you think? (Yes, I drew the radar)

Yes! I 100% agree with this! While I do like the compass at the top of the screen (annoying but fun at the same time lol) it definitely needs East and west marked, and I like the idea of the minimap showing terrain around you when you scan.
Also time of day and location is shown in the analysis visor, but I would like it on the screen

Or have it on a screen on your arm or something like a sci fi wristwatch 😆

Thanks, I love all the helmets in NMS because they are so unique to the game but the gek helm has such an iconic look. if you can print you can either rip the files from the game (kinda complicated) and make them into a print ready file or sculpt it from scratch (what I did, it takes longer and requires an art eye). either way, if you want it to be wearable be sure to inport a model of a head at simalar measurements and insure you have room before cutting it up to print. Id suggest looking into cosplay helmets for more info on scaling and general assembly.

I got here last night with the Songwalkers, though I may need to try again with the body. In NMS, there are 6 parts of the body to customize; the head, the torso, the armor, the legs, the boots, and the gloves. I need to make sure each part has a distinctive separation on these guys so it can still be compatible with the other available body pieces

Here is another fractilite thing, kinda like how with autophages with how you unlock staffs, with these guys you’ll get a bow, unlike other mulitools, bows would have a single slot you need to refill that will give all of your weapons ammunition, this slot would be the bows quiver, you would need to craft arrows with silver. When you use a weapon with the bow you’ll need to draw it back first instead of just clicking like other mulitools, the closer you get to pulling it all the way back the more damage it will do and it will go further, I don’t think this multi took wouldn’t work with fully automatic stuff.

So I got here tonight for the Songwalkers… spent the evening doodling the body trying to figure out a good looking design. I decided to go for the armor-less look (the character customization part) so I could get the torso part down better. Any thoughts?

Also, should we have a no-armor option in NMS, probably just some straps to keep the jet pack in place? I’d personally love to see the fronts of the torso options lol

So I think I have a good design for the body for the Songwalkers! Now to just design several different head types because it’s not an NMS race without a bunch of options for head designs lol

Actually, does anyone have any good suggestions for name themes I can use for the heads? Like the basic Anomaly helmets are all named after Greek letters, the Gek heads are based around trading, the Korvax with science and research, Vy’keen with war, etc
Since the Songwalkers are centered around exploration and, like their namesake, song, I was thinking something like naming them after types of boats would be cool (but also a little silly lol) but I’m happy to look for any other suggestions!

A bit late but as a music nerd perhaps different music scales/modes? Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian for the sort of “main” helmets, but for special or exclusive helmets you can just look up unique music scales/modes and see which ones you’d like most name-wise

This is more of a suggestion than an idea.
You've probably wanted glass corridors (or regular ones) to be able to connect directly to vertical corridors without using cubic rooms, right? To give you an idea, it's like building bases in Subnautica.
What do you think?

I decided to take this into a different direction, instead I want all of the head types to be all of the farmable planets. The first is the albumen pearl orb, the second one is the gravitino host, and the third one is the gutrot flower.
