I'll play with one stat at a time when the missions re-roll and see what changes I can find

0 fuel is as good as it can be, and every number adds more fuel to the trip
No, as I said, you'd need to go negative then, and I don't really see a reason why you would do that. And if you wouldn't go negative, you would need to set a minimum somewhere above 0. It's just logical to use higher is better
I don't think that's how it works. fuel usage is determined by a different formula, the trait does reduction
just set the trait to 100, check your frigate's fuel usage, then set it to 0 and check again

@night adder Ok moving here. Im working on a mod that changes some text elements in the game which I find not-so-clear, misleading, you call it. Specifically Im interested in the messages regarding saving the game in multiplayer and Nexus mission scenarios:

My question kinda has 2 parts:

do you happen to know what kinda scenario / event triggers the "not saved during Nexus mission" message? I tested a couple different scenarios (saving during Nexus mission solo, saving during Nexus mission in a team where I was leader, saving during mission in a team where I was not the leader) and I kept getting the other message, saying just "position not saved in multiplayer".

do you think it's possible the message with Nexus mission is no longer used in the game? I tried googling it, there are no mentions of it since at least a year. People on reddit / steam complain about getting their progress reset, but they post the 1st message.

Hmm! But switch in specific doesn’t have access to nexus mission. And wouldn’t it be impossible to access nexus mission without proper internet connection? ODS coming into play here.
@timid burrow Forgot Switch doesnt have Nexus missions, and the point about ODS is valid - but my point about PS/XB players stands. One can have access to ODS without access to MP
Ohhh! So connected to internet via console but doesn’t have subscription services meaning they cannot access multiplayer but can access ODS. I thought we couldn’t connect to ODS either if we didn’t have subscription.

best thing i can think of Not saved in MP is when you're playing online so joining a friend, doing nexus missions will all trigger that message when you fe exit a space ship, while Not saved during Nexus might only trigger when playing offline and doing a nexus mission

@fresh arch But does he have XB Live Gold? My suggestion wasnt that being offline would get the other message, it was that not having the MP subscription for console whatsoever would.

@tame axle In the pins you can find a link to either NomNom or NMSSE to use for Save Editor. There is also a pin that lists all the legacy base part IDs, which you will need to add. First go ahead and make sure you backed up your saves. Get your Save Editor installed and running. Then let me know when ready and I will give further details if you wish.

Ah, in that case, you will need to get a friend who has the legacy parts unlocked to build them for you (requires setting build permissions accordingly)
AMUMSS to be install outside of the game folder or is it allowed to be inside of game folder

you just shouldn't install anything inside game folders in general

Are there any instructions or walkthroughs of how to edit some of the difficulty settings once you've locked them in? I set everything on my file to as hard as it can be cuz I thought that's what I had to do to play with my friend who's a permadeath player of course I've been playing now for about a couple months and this restricted inventory stack stuff is really dumb. those 2 mods may interfere with each other to begin with

gumsk's mods should have luas if you need to merge
for the more upgradeable slots the file edited is: METADATA/REALITY/TABLES/INVENTORYTABLE.MBIN And as for the ginventory : DEFAULTSAVEDATA.MBIN

Ok I figured it out. It's just as easy as editing the section on the json in the save editor. Changed Hard, to normal. "InventoryStackLimits":{

Saved it and it instantly allowed me to have different stack sizes that are allowed under permadeath. (Though you can change it to easy (9999) as well)

I created regex replace patterns with some instructions on two websites. Feel free to give it a try if you wish. Make sure to have backups of your saves!
You will need a Save Editor of your choice for the full Raw JSON data from your saves on both platforms.
Additionally you need to know your Game Pass UID, Game Pass Username, Steam64ID, and Steam Username, to be used. If you then do it correctly, either through the links, or with Notepad++, you will end up with converted full JSON save data, to overwrite the save data on a save for the new platform.
Alternatively you can use regular expression / replace patterns for Notepad++ below.
Make sure to check the 'regex' tick-box and replace the following parts:

Figured it was my mod, lol. @summer lotus Yeah, I remember that one. A new beta build of AMUMSS had come out which had a bug in it. Once I discovered the bug and nature of the issue (bytes were being lopped off, so the files looked right in a text editor, but were the wrong size), I re-rolled the mod using the release version of AMUMSS, and we got the problem in the beta version fixed in the morning.
Emergency fix. Previous 4.x versions weren't working correctly, due to a bug in my AMUMSS install. Created the mod incorrectly from the lua script.```
So, you want to download the latest version, which is 4.07.
For the most part, with a few exceptions like TEXTURE (graphic file) mods, NMS mods are neither backward nor forward compatible, because HelloGames changes stuff in the files. If you try running mods made for a different version of NMS, you'll frequently see a crash and the game will refuse to load. This is because there may be property differences in the mod which are now different for the version of NMS. When the exe sees thing in the game files that it doesn't recognize, it'll freak out.
The reason why the mod version is 4.07 and current version of NMS is 4.08, is because the files used by the mod had no changes between NMS 4.07 and 4.08, so no update to the mod was necessary.

Lot's of time lurking in the NMS modding discord to begin with and then lots of beating my head against the wall.
As DHarhanWulf alluded to, the main thing the mod does is add the E interaction pet button to "creatures" that don't have it. Beyond that, the mod does not make major changes to the creatures. As they were never designed by HG to be pets, some are missing anywhere from a little to a lot of game file data that an official vanilla pet creature would have. I do hope that you get to keep George though. 🙂 I can try to eek out some time to hunt down a minidrone and play with it a bit over the weekend and see if I can come up with anything, but no promises.
In the meantime, with NMS Companion, NomNom, or NMS Save Editor, if he shows up in the companion/pet list, get a backup of George. DM it to me if you could, will save me having to hunt one down.

Twitch drops are buggy but twitch drops are just quicksilver purchaseables (NOT counting the ships!)
In exosuit you can finally finish the quicksilver grind, everything together is about 160k quicksilver (not counting things like eggs and fireworks)
of course this is all your choice and if you're playing non-creative i highly recommend you do this the old fashioned way
Exploring is more my Bag, so the ability to skip a few steps and get my ship all pretty makes life So Much Better! Already 100+ hrs into the grind of it all. At least now I have a choice to skip some things if I feel the need

Hey so I used wemod like a dummy in multiplayer with my friend and now our multiplayer is perma broken. Tried switching to my Xbox the save synced but I still get "Player left system" every time we connect.
Currently both PC and Console get player disconnected

Use a save editor and check your shield value. It's possibly at a ridiculously high number, which is causing server desynch

Set it to 100, then it may update if you make changes to shield in-game

Beyond Base Building has no non-vanilla parts, but does allow for some planet base objects to be built on freighters. Run the included lua through amumss to have the option of enabling some options, which will create a custom version of the .pak

Yep, you got it. The newer .net are not backward compatible with older versions. Like I have 5, 6, and 7 installed due to dependencies with various apps I use.

Not exactly, as most vanilla items don't have base building IDs, which are used to list the parts in the base. For vanilla only items, you would want to use https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1214
800-odd vanilla items, which can be used from the base building menu to add to bases. Some big, some small. Most are non-functional as decoration though, like the various creatures will just stand there and blink at you..."living statues"

There are also two mods which add non-vanilla, completely custom items to the base building menu, Kibbles N Bits and Eucli-EA. These can be used together and in conjunction with Ultra Base Building, with a bit of finagling (and running the Luas together in AMUMSS to make a combined .pak

If you're new to the game I would recommend playing the game in vanilla state
So you know what the game has to offer by itself
Are there any mods to make locations of structures more precise? I'm getting tired of finding the "approximate location"
As no man's sky is largely a singleplayer game, modding is entirely allowed. Modding is the installing of separate files to alter the game experience for yourself, to make the game look better, make planets form different, ships look different, new crafting recipes, faster walkspeed etc. No man's sky is largely supportive as the installation process is easy, consisting of making a folder and removing / renaming a text file. As FriendlyFire said, if you're new I recommend playing vanilla or with very few mods (I.e. graphic mods, or crafting mods) so your experience is largely "normal".
this next part is a very mild spoiler about the space anomaly:
||Within the space anomaly you an find other players, but mods will usually work just fine inside of it.||
This is because most mods just make the world look different, without altering the invisible walls and boundaries; that way you gain no advantage over other players.

In JSON, expand PlayerStateData\PersistentPlayerBases - this will contain every base on the save as a numbered "folder", but you can display entire contents of PersistentPlayerBases and use search

Once you've found it, you'll want to copy/paste the entire base objects list into a Notepad file. Then you load up your current save, use the same process to find freighter base, and replace the new base objects list with the old.

@neon bobcat i have to stress that with enough mods, there's bound to be ones that will conflict with others because they change the same file. to fix that u have to merge their .LUA files with a program called AUMSS

For one base or all?
I don't think there's a built in function for it. I think you have to go to edit raw JSON, playerstatedata, persistentplayerbases, open up each base and see how many object entries there are. Add them together for the total
There was some tool that did it automatically, but I forget what it was. Maybe the blender base building plug-in? @fallow meadow would know.
@steady plover When using NMSSE, it used to show the amount of items, but it is currently most often bugged to show any base information. You can either choose to count for yourself in Raw JSON editor, or use NomNom as an alternative. There are other tools that may show the part count for bases, of which, indeed, the Blender plugin.

Sorry, NMSSE = goatfungus, which can only show bases from pre-4.0 (4651 normal mode)
So unless your save is from pre-4.0, you can no longer see base part count. You will have to check the Raw JSON editor instead, to manually count. If you have Notepad++ or some other handy text editor, you could possibly do a search + count
You don't need NP++. You can just look in the raw JSON. This base, for example, has 109 objects

After some varied testing i've found out this mod breaks multiplayer, causing all the player characters to either not load in or move very slowly. Anybody know why?

The mod's purpose is to (with file one) grant the player a ship and let the player fly it, and (with file two) let the player fly the ship, assuming the player already have it
The mod should not import any files, it should use the sentinel interceptor model
Not certain what you're looking at. The mod copies existing vanilla files, so that necessary changes for the mod to work don't affect vanilla NPC police ships, like adding a cockpit. Uses the vanilla model, MODELS\COMMON\SPACECRAFT\POLICE\POLICESHIP.SCENE.MBIN. If this doesn't work for you, may wish to try https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1891. The actual ship will be a Golden Vector, with the skin of a sentinel ship.
As far as the mutiplayer aspect, I'll take a look when time allows, but we (modders) are extremely limited in what we can do with MP, the game code functions for this are neither visible nor accessible. 🙂

Like I said, I'll take a look. If it does, there may not be a way of fixing, due to what's allowed by the game. I've have one mod break a facet of MP, where other players names weren't displayed. I was able to fix that, but due to limitations, the fix had it's own side effect of killing off the sound effects of footsteps and the jump pack.
It's a possibility, but also worked for a very long time without. That would be one of the limitations I mentioned. Can't add new types. If the exe sees something in the game files it doesn't recognize, it's a quick trip to crashville. lol

Mods in NMS are client side. So, in general, in order to see a visual change, others would need to be running the same mod.

Hi all! So I just recently started attempting to use nexus mods and vortex for nms. I was looking in pins and didnt see this listed (though I could easily have missed it), When I have a mod active, really any of them, it causes my ship to bug out and only go like 20 u/s no matter what. Is there something I can do about this?
i dont use mods but it could be an issue with a singular mod, my proposal would be to go through and disable each mod one by one and you should eventually find which one was causing the issue. if the problem persists after all mods are disabled then im not sure what to do from there.
when you find the one that was causing the issue remove it and reenable your mods

Hey i need some help, so im trying to install 2 i feel like relatively inobtrusive mods but like whenever i try to boot the game with them activated just nothing happens, steam says the game is running but no visuals show at all but if i uninstall the 2 mods it boots fine

Yeah, just saying if you want to choose the version, you have to do it manually. If you look at your MODS folder, it will show several gCam files in it, I believe

Yeah, so when you have multiple modifying the same file, the last loaded one wins, which is Offset Turbo in this case. If you wanted a centered cam or non-turbo, you would have to delete the others

Centered puts the camera directly behind the character. Offset puts it to the side, like normal NMS. Turbo is how fast the photo mode camera moves

Turn braking ("braking") was modded to not help turning. Instead it slows the turning. The idea being that the ship should have more control with normal thrusters and less with reverse thrusters.
I have heavily tested the AI difficulty mod for balance. A starter ship (without upgrades) can defeat any AI ship , but it will NOT be easy. You need skills and a decent amount of shield fuel. Once you fully upgrade a ship, you will be very slightly stronger than the toughest AI ship.
If you don't have a decent amount of practice and have a starter ship, the mod will make you it's bitch.
Is it intended to be played with a gamepad or something ? I'm playing with keyboard and mouse and I can't have enemy ship in sight whatever I do.

Howdy y'all, If you don't mind my asking, I have a bunch of folk who are playing for the first time, And some folk who have played a bit, What are some mods you all would recommend both to enhance the experience and for added life to the game?
I use KBM. I can kill any AI ship with the starter ship and no upgrades. This is with the difficulty settings in the menu set on "hard". I have to use shield fuel during the fight with the starter ship. I'm not sure what you're doing that is making it so that you can't target them. Don't use the reverse brakes. They will slow turning if you are using the flight mod.
TLDR: gIT gOoD 😉
or just put on one of the dozen other flight mods out there if you're so inclined
the choices are always there if you need an "easy mode"

I understand it will be harder for some people compared to others, but I've tested the hell out of it.

Yes I was using shield fuel, a lot, but no matter what I tried it was a nightmare to have them in sight, and trust me I tried !
I was forced to remove the mod but I would have loved keeping it. The vanilla AI is ridiculously easy even with the hardest settings

Most likely, check in PCBANKS for DISABLEMODS.TXT, delete or rename it. 2nd most likely, mod .pak go into PCBANKS\MODS, not GAMEDATA\MODS. Hope it helps.
No i just learned you cant mod it if your on xbox gamepass, that was the issue

Just go to NexusMods and browse through. You can sort by Most Popular, but check the last updated dates and make sure it was sometime since October (others might work, but most need updating since then). You can also sort by Last Updated and just browse

You can try NMSMB, it has built-in support to detect the gamepass version on the PC and install mods for it.
I have gamepass on my PC and can build and install mods for it ... I may have had to move the NMS folder to a non-protected location using the gamepass app. Start Apps -> Xbox app, goto NMS app, click the "..." button to the right of the Play button and select Manage, goto Files - Change Drive.

Do you have the scripts for the mods or just the pak's ? If just have the pak's, did you check to see if they include the scripts (they are often included) ?

Yes, either lua scripts that amumss uses, or c# scripts that nmsmb uses.

If you have the lua scripts then just put them all in the appropriate amumss folder and run amumss, it will merge them all and create a single pak.

@azure marsh Sandworms are not pets, and will not function properly. When HG set up the Expedition reward, they added all sandworm model parts to the procgen pool for FlyingSnakes - that's what you need to use. You can set their scale value so theyre the same size as sandworms

@hearty wasp I don't want to use mods right away, but I have no idea what I'm doing and how to navigate nexus for optimal use. Only modding experiences I have had beforehand is CurseForge for minecraft, and SMM (Satisfactory mod manager, for...y'know, satisfactory).
Both of these had there own way of needing the original game installed for use and SMM had a switch to turn mods off.

The game files have properties in them. The exe also has these properties. The issue with most older mods is that in a new update there may be added, removed, or name changed properties and an older mod may be missing these differences. If the exe sees something it doesn't recognize, CTD. 🙂

Yes, your save(s) can be converted from Game Pass to Steam. Normally NomNom (Save Editor) would be able to do this, but functionality appears to have broken. Is modding capable on ps5
I disabled a mod but it still affects the game. I checked the PCBANKS\MODS folder after disabling the mod in Vortex and the .pak file is no longer in the mods directory. Is there anything else to do to disable a mod ?
Also the voices are still in French while I turned the game in english

try restarting your game a few times to flush the system
or verify game integrity
Check both the in-game settings, where language selection has been newly added with this update, and the Steam settings for NMS (Steam Desktop Client > Library > NMS > Properties > Language)
I fixed it by changing the language in game from default to English, but the worrying part is that a mod was still in effect while removed 😕
I would suggest removing mods manually and not through Vortex.
I double checked the PCBANKS\MODS folder and it was removed as well

You can pick up which sound you want to make silent and it creates a .pak file
Next you put in the mods folder and that's it
But even removed it is still in effect

I would suggest to re-install NMS. It may not detect that files have changed and possibly were not re-installed/overwritten with original files.

With invis wires, shouldn't still be in effect once the .pak is removed from MODS. Only makes changes to MAT files. Maybe some weird caching thing.

Mods contain a complete copy of the files they are making changes to, which supercedes the vanilla versions of those files.
When the mod .pak is removed, game will use vanilla version again

Yep, never seen or heard of that before. . Unless there's a second copy of the mod in MODS, maybe in a combined or patch .pak
Also worth to mention perhaps, supersized crops when planted in trays. After removal of mods still present as an issue apparently.

Then again, I have seen some weirdness caused by Vortex. For about a year, I turned it off for all my mods, got tired of trying to troubleshoot something I have zero insight into what it's doing. Lol

with more complex file linking the game just assume the previous linkage to still be present even after you remove the mod

I would suggest starting with either exos or duds palette mods. Increases visual variety without affecting gameplay at all. Strictly eye candy
