So on traveller's, in each iteration/galaxy originally, a slew of species existed uniquely which inhabited different spaces, wether their history was constructed or developed is unknown.
Each iteration/galaxy had its own traveler and the anamoly is where they met.
In the at present time the atlas is running on the last of its reserve power.
And only has 16 minutes of time left.
It's shutdown allot of its processes and is only currently running the iteration you are in. So rest are gone...
Which is why it says it deletes the universe you was in when traveling to the next.
And you can see those old travelers too which is why you visit the anomaly and see the unique species that inhabit its shops, but nowhere else...
And when you leave the first galaxy note it was deleted, so that means nada and polo, etc are the last surviving of that iteration.
I believe they are using it as it a haven to save themselves. And they know what is going on, and that that is why they remain silent and remorseful at times.

What's interseting is that regarding each iteration having its own traveler, is that nada and polo are present with you on the anamoly before/after deletion
3 species from 1 iteration...

And 1 more if you consider the lowly guy hiding from the sentinels. 4 races, and the 5 if we count the guests +more if we count the antlantid we help aboard later, plus Ares, Ariadne, Cronus, Gemini, Helios, Hesperus, Eos, Hyperion, Mercury...

I believe in the nms universe that the sentinels/atlas while they can be traced in lore to preservation. Is actually how the computer running the simulation is perceived within the simulation by its artificial inhabitants. And that's why they hide in the anamoly from the sentinels and atlas. It's why the anamloy can appear anywhere, in any iteration. Nada and polo know exactly where the atlas stations are, do you think they never visited? They understand black holes and more, and have their own personal universe as if they not only know how to be omnipresent, but know exactly how their world works to the extent they simulate their own. So the anamoly can't be deleted by the computer and that's why they hide there, and never leave. And fear the atlas and sentinels these travelers would have knowledge of this seeing deletion as these other species can be found nowhere else, even when traveling through different iterations as if only 3 can be generated for some reason. You can look and see that no other race aside those transparent beings is like you by default.

Well a computer running such a simulation and for so much time to pass for it what it is relative to the artificial life that inhabits the nms universe, would most definitely be some kind of complex qauntum/neural computer. It does use ai generated from real living fragments scanned from its creator. You would think some kind of prevention would be in place to prevent such an occurance right? The computer is outdated in reality a new version is being built and that's why it's abandoned and running on reserves, created to answer an alluding question...

And for whatever reason, and there have been others to try, Apollo, Null, you manage to break through the iteration, and atlas seems to follow you.
So again the great question resides for you the user within the constructs of the artificial world in which you emerge yourself...

There are 256 galaxies in No Man's Sky.

Euclid is labeled as Galaxy #0 in game files, but often referred to as Galaxy #1 by the community.
Odyalutai is #255 in game files, referred to as #256 by the community.

Players may only access galaxy 255 (Odyalutai) if they join the game of someone, or visit a base in galaxy 255, or save edit to get there.

Players who join the game of someone in galaxy 256 (or any other number outside the range 0-255) will instead see Odyalutai; with stars and planets in identical positions but core colour, procgen names and tech seeds shuffled.

What happens if you warp through the core of galaxy 255?

I've heard about a galaxy 257 called Yilsrussimil; does it exist?

It's possible to use a save editor to reposition yourself into galaxy 257. However, the galaxy name will be shown as Euclid, Odyalutai, or Yilsrussimil, depending upon where you see it shown in the game. Further, players in Odyalutai using the same coordinates show up in your system, demonstrating it's more of a glitch in the game than a true place; after saving and reloading, you will be shown in Odyalutai, and unable to see the Yilsrussimil name henceforth without using the save editor again. So, galaxy 257 does not exist; if it's anything, it's a display artifact when using the save editor.

What about negative numbered galaxies?
No Man's Sky can generate galaxy names for any number you put into the save file (outside the range 0-255), but you will be in Odyalutai (galaxy 255).

How many regions are in each galaxy, and how many systems per region?

There are approximately 4.27 billion regions per galaxy (4095x4095x255), with regions possibly having as few as 122 star systems and as many as 600+.

What types of galaxies are there, and how do they differ?

Lush, Empty, Normal and Harsh; the galaxy type affects the distribution of planet biomes in yellow systems, and probability of extreme survival planets.

what it says about no loop back to euclid is technically wrong since in foundations you could overflow the integer limit and go through all of the negative galaxies back into euclid

Technically not being able to eat through your nose is also a lie becuase you can insert a pipe into your nose that will connect to the food pipe (esophagus) to insert food directly into your stomach.
But that would take a lot of money and you will be stuck in constant medical supervision.

It’s the same analogy, negative galaxies, save editing, you can do anything you want but it doesn’t apply in vanilla, untouched game. I don’t preach save editing methods to new players without enough experience. 🙂

the center colors before atlas rises in the negative galaxies were all white like euclid, but then for some reason they changed to some unique colors and the cutscenes entering them had new names from their original ones but the original ones stayed in the solar system popup and the galaxy map
for example realityindex 0 (pequibanu) would show globiilium when you entered it, but then say pequibanu still when you jumped system or in later updates when the galaxy map had the little corner display

Autophage are the divergent Korvax that were disconnected from the convergence. The Korvax may have disconnected them deliberately to purge the divergent ones within their population, or a cataclysmic event such as destruction of Korvax Prime might also have been the root cause.

Because of the disconnection their physical bodies (shell) might have been destroyed, but their consciousness remained in a dark place called the “void”. They were never destroyed.
This disconnected consciousness is what we call an echo. Over several years, possibly with the help of a mysterious substance called Atlantideum (a fragment of the Atlantid, aka Void Mother, aka Korvax Prime, aka The Abyss) which mysteriously oozed out of several planetary bodies (hence the appearance of “dissonant” planets) the Autophage gained hold of their fleeting consciousness (or echoes) and established their shells which are usually dead bodies of sentinels, other korvax, broken machinery.
The Autophage have been living with everybody else in hiding, but the traveler establishes a link with their echoes after being influenced by the Abyss. Having uncovered the hidden Autophage the traveler is then required to gain their trust.
The token of their trust and friendship is the “Multi-Tool Staff” we have come to love so much.

to be more precise tho, echo is the name given to deceased Korvax consciousness, real Korvaxian-Korvax, but since Autophages are technically korvax, their disconnected souls are echoes as well

I don't remember anything in the game to indicate they can experience "pain", as in our human definition of it, where physical discomfort and signals sent to the brain, can actually cause feelings of 'suffering'.

For all we know it could simply cause confusion in their systems, and thus what they would process as disconfort ?
We definitely see example of that when you encounter a random korvax that's having some short circuits for example.

But this might be as hard to answer as the eternal question of whether fish can feel pain as we define it even without having a central cortex, or simply receive signals that something is wrong through their nociceptors.
It is specially hard to answer without having a source in game to rely on.

The korvax definitely "felt" something when under oppression by the first spawn, enough to decide to revolt against it, but i'm unsure if that gives any insight into wether physical damage to their shells is processed as suffering (pain).

Well our current understanding of what person is is based on our feeling, same goes for bad and wrong. Our emotions are a system developed by natural selection to keep us alive. Same would probably for lifeforms that develop our level of intelligence, self awareness and ability of abstract thinking.
It feels bad for me to trap artemis inside of a one star system simulation for example.

The thing I like to bring when talking about living in a simulation is fact we have no way to really discover, expirence and study world outside the simulation.

But in experience of other simulated entities geks are undeniably a life form

To close my essay simulated entity is not a life form to an outside observer but is definitely alive in their own experience

so maybe there are some star positions not found in odyalutai thus leading to extra star systems you couldnt find there

It's not going to end your game either way. If you accept, you'll be fastforwarded into a new galaxy, and won't need to core jump to get to it / that said, if you agree, then you should know your equipped ship, tool, and suit techs will ALL break and need repairs.

the Atlas Path quest (birth a star sth) only rewards a health upgrade instead of teleporting u to a new galaxy. It's the artemis quest (aka the "Main quest") u are talking about.

When I got the mission I was proceeding to Apollo stuff & got the settlement attacked by sentinels for the first time. U don't need to finish the artemis quest to get A trace of metal. (Or I just have a bad memory lol) The sentinel attack is a special one with the Walkers which won't appear on any other instance.

For the Atlas Path if u choose accept you will be rewarded with a health update tech and the chance to upload discoveries to Atlas terminals for Nanites. If u rejected u will be rewarded with an equipment that can be used to upload discoveries and also be exchanged for nanites at the terminals. The only major difference is the reward Title I believe.

Guys, a theory that might be far fetched but the countdown until the Atlas dies made me remember something

Before the year 2000 it was to be believed that every computer would break if it tries to calculate any date past 2000 hence the Y2K problem

What if what the Atlas is going through is actually something identical to this phenomenon, it always ends up dying and then being reset and there is even a countdown (16 minutes) before it does

It reaches a value, a date, an integer that grows past its calculation limit and begins to break down

32 bit integers also got something similar as they can only go up to 2,147,483,647 and its negative counterpart

computer scientists or even your average tech dude were never worried about "computers not being able to calculate dates".

The issue that was worrysome was when 2 digit number were used for the year field in databases, and when a computer tried to compare the dates of things against the newer dates it could assume things were from the beginning of the century

say expiry dates on things for example. So it would throw unexpected errors.
But the issue was so badly understood by the media and the general populace. and obviously panic sells

However we do know from the lore that the issue most likely the atlas is facing is the death of it's own world, the creator and his civilization abandoned that world, and left the atlas behind.
And what the atals tries to do basically is find a solution to its problem, trying to survive its eventual demise

what do we have so far? there are indications that eventually it's simulation becomes to abysmally large it starts to get corrupted in places

So yea, the theory that things within the atlas become so large that eventually it needs to reset because it can't hold anymore, isn't all far fetched

although resetting is also an option, and not a certainty.
I think in that sense is more the game giving a symbolic representation of things

People are still going wild about why the Atlas is dying but afaik the lore is pretty clear about a black hole being nearby and consuming everything. The Atlas is aware of this and is panicking, that‘s where most of it‘s issues stem from.

The Abyss also plays a role as it actively corrupts the Simulation, though I have no idea what it can possibly do to solve the issue with the black hole. Maybe the Atlas has the means to escape it‘s place, it‘s creators apparently were able to after all. But meh this whole abyss stuff is just way too weird to get as of now. Technically there is a more advanced but also smaller version of the ATLAS which the creators took with it iirc lore correctly

Yeah I've always felt the black hole is causing the corruption in the system (and the weird exotic planets), from the intense radiation being spit out and probably damaging the computer systems it runs on. The memory is getting totally corrupted so Atlas keeps resetting the simulation to try to "fix" it, but there's no real solution

the exotic planet and creatures on it are stated as objects from other worlds or "between worlds", possiblely the result of boundary failure. (but no players can actually be in the "other worlds" lol it's all the same

Rayrods stuff is cool but sometimes I feel like it’s just randomness for the sake of variation (at least his old publicly released mods) but if the devs just made like 30 more “presets” to each biome it would achieve the same affect with greater consistency. (An example currently in the game is how some ice planets have trees and plants, and others have ice crystals and rocks) oh and they should add the diplo models from rayrods

They really just need to decrease the poly count on the old assets

well..it is fractionally curious that Sean used the Europe/Africa side of the globe for the cowboy, when he used the North America globe for the original globe /surelymeanssomething

Credit to captain Steve on twitter. These are the only times he’s used cowboy, all a few hours before the trailer, and 3/4 of them were expeditions.
However the GIB emoji makes it extremely unlikely that it is just an expedition, especially because we’ve never received back to back expeditions updates besides beachhead of course, but that was because expedition 1 was a full update
This could mean it might break the pattern and be an update and an expedition like frontiers and cartographers

Looking back on all the years tho, it was the biggest year, with 4 almost anniversary sized updates, and leviathan (Best expedition no criticism allowed) Sentinel made nanites fun to get, outlaws was awesome, endurance was the best update imo and waypoint was pretty good (after supercharged slots where added)

The settlements and trace of metal aren't required at all.
It was a bug that got patched out like a week after the Echoes update came out but by that point there's already been tons of guides writen how to start the quest that they're now inaccurate.
