For one, #no-mans-steak🥩 was a request as well as decided by staff as a desire was meant for a place to talk about cooking and food. #no-ones-philosophy was also a community request. The server is a core NMS server and many people who use the off topic channels also use the NMS centric channels. These additions are only a portion of the channel request I've seen in just the last month and a half. Talking about the game, especially with the lull in updates and the constant arguments over which version is better, having a way to escape is preferrable. I would have simply removed politics from #archived-old-serious and not made a separate channel but I have had no traction on that idea in the past. The game night channels are being used to organize a fun night of activity by and for community members. It could be argued that #the-louvre and #forever-archived-legacy are also bloated because conversation about previous versions already happens in #no-mans-sky as well as screenshots already being pinned and posted in #nms-photomode-gallery and #no-mans-art. The basics are that people don't always like to interrupt conversations, or get outspoken by other more aggressive individuals and appreciate the ability to take those subjecs to their own place and be free to express themselves.

it does address some of it of course. i’m just looking at it from not only a clutter POV but a moderation pov too. more channels = more work, surely it would be better to bend the rule set into allowing more range of conversations in maybe channels called offtopic1/offtopic2. this way the conversations that may seem more aggressive in 1, can be transferred to offtopic2. hope you see where i’m coming from

it’s just at its core this is a gaming server, and having the same number of off topic channels as game channels can seem a bit weird. i understand you have a community, but the community had already branches into making their own servers to discuss off topic chatter (see TMF). if these conversations are not wanting to be interrupted by individuals maybe take it DMs?

Unsure if the bot timed out (took ages to message me, then my message was long). So I'll post it here too.

Something called Inktober has started where artists have a prompt list where they draw something different every day of the month based on the subject of that day. We should do something similar (maybe bi-monthly?) but instead of drawing, we take screenshots. So day 1 could be Aquatic/fish, day 2 could be mysterious/spooky, day 3 could be wild/animalistic ect. We could make a competition out of it (reward could be money or something free like a winners role for the month between competitions. Or it could not be a competition and just be for fun, to see how creative the community gets.

I believe this could make the community more engaged with the discord and the game.

I have see many members in the lfg page wanting to do a mass co-op city build or just need a quick resource. I have a suggestion, that we have separate tabs under lfg with rooms such as "I need resources" and "the builders" along with a few other as to break down the chatter in the rooms and having a few lobbies that members can use to stage roleplaying groups and such without chat message getting buried.

I don't think the difficulty ones should get a colour really... That means the unranked people have an unusual colour until they rank, I think, which is weird.

There are some other rarely-seen roles with colours too, which should also maybe not get colours.

Maybe there should be a default role that everyone gets, or maybe an "unranked" role that gets replaced by the lowest rank. That could have a white colour, and all the weird other roles could be below it, meaning people should never end up with those colours.

@brave sun I disagree that allowing newer people to have colours or have uniquely coloured roles is a bad thing; the only difference for ranked roles is how much one talks; the "status" of the others are shown by their hoisted position on the sidebar.
