Yeah, you'll do well in combat but other skill checks might suffer, especially exploration. Those frigates still look like they have plenty of leveling up to do so they'll be fine by the time they hit level 10.

Yeah, make sure to keep sending them until they all completed 55 expeditions because they still gain stats outside of being S class until they have 55 expeditions complete. And you did it right, growing mechanical frigates from C class is the way to go as that's when they have the best core stats.

I heard there's a bug where if they start on certain levels they don't level up. And I do have some that have been stuck at level C or B for a long time (while the rest are all S)

Liek 25 of my ships are class S, while 5 seem stuck where they started (C B or A)

And i ALWAYS send those on missions (trying to level them)

Never heard of or seen that bug so I have no idea. Presumably if you recruit a frigate with 55 expeditions complete or more that will never level up and if the game says it's C class or whatever that will never improve either as level-ups trigger frigates to eliminate bad perks or obtain positive ones. Not sure if it is possible for the game to spawn frigates with 55 expeditions complete that aren't S class but that would do it...that would get you a trash frigate that never levels up. You should of course, always account for a frigate's level and perks and core stats before you recruit it.

Ah, I see...never took notice of that because I always calculated current stats of a frigate against potential. I would just calculate the stats of a frigate like that as deficient. To recruit a mechanical frigate I would be looking for core stat of 10 and core stat of 16 is impossible so if it is missing 6 points from a level up that were not rewarded I would simply notice it as deficient and move on.

Have to not just look for cool ships but to understand their stat ranges, then hunt for S ships with near perfect stat rolls...a good place to start is one of each type except shuttle, you can skip shuttles. Then figure out the best X class module rolls and kit them all with high roll X class modules, optimize tech layouts. Then do the same for multitools. Kit all your exocraft with ideal tech layouts too. Then hunt for a freighter with near max stat rolls and all 4 supercharged slots connected, then get it all top S class modules, put together a fleet of amazing frigates and get them to max level. And to max slots on everything will be very expensive so got to set up Stasis Device farms at some point too. Not to mention all the lore to hunt down, base blueprints, earning all possible player titles, and now we have Xeno Arena too so you need to sort out an ultimate lineup of gene edited SSS battle pets, etc. etc. etc. You should not be in danger of running out of things to do in NMS anytime soon.

I am kind of surprised how quiet the discord got. Xeno Arena is one of the largest updates ever in terms on how long it takes to complete. I think it will be around the end of June(~3 months) before I can say I 100% this update. If I'm insanely lucky maybe mid-June at the earliest.

Before Xeno Arena I had 15 pets out of the previous cap of 18. Out of those only 1 will remain in place and I will have 28 out of the new cap of 30. Adopting, gene editing, and leveling that many is no joke.

Oh man, you really have to get on that. Hello Games at least said there will be seasonal content for the arena. So while the permanent medals and milestones can be procrastinated on you need at least a solid team of 3 pets that can fight so you at least make sure you don't miss temporary content that goes away. But frankly I am desperately trying to 100% it so when the next update drops so if it's a big one I won't be caught still needing to max Xeno Arena and then I don't finish that update before the one after and so on...I don't want to end up in a hole where I'm looking at not being caught for six months or something crazy. Yep that is part of it. I also made things much harder on myself by trying to salvage as many of the previous expedition pets as I could so I ended up in a spot where I re-rolled expedition reward pets for 5 days, then had to wait a week for them to lay eggs and soon I'll be able to transfer them to my main save, gene edit and hatch them and then I can adopt the last few I need from the wild which will be 2 more days to gene edit those too and to level them all and so on. But I will have salvaged 8 out of 11 expedition reward pets...pretty happy about that.

I was thinking the same thing. Initially I did not think I could salvage many expedition reward pets as suitable fighters so my initial plan was 16 fighters and 12 just cosmetic and fun to have filler. But as I started digging into the specifics I was surprised I could turn 8 out of 11 into suitable Arena fighters...7 SSS and 1 AAA. And then I re-calculated and re-planned those 12 spots I was going to waste on filler pets and now I can upgrade to a full 24 set of top fighters, 3 of each nature, and have 4 extra slots for filler in which 3 are still capable fighters anyway and I get to keep 8 of 11 expedition reward pets in my pet lineup...so it's like having the cake and eating it too.

Mutations don't work on all pets...on some it does nothing. Others it changes, and when it changes it often makes unspeakable horrors...but sometimes it works great. Worth trying...if you don't like the result, reload restore save and don't mutate again.

Child of Helios and Mechamouse can be re-rolled into SSS...you CAN have those. By "the scuttler" I assume you mean the small bug like the brood mother drones? If so then that one is a lost cause...nothing you can do to make it strong...you can either keep it as a filler/cosmetic pet or let it go.

Ah the Scuttler is the tiny biohorror from the derelicts, I think they‘re called „minifiends“ internally but another source calls them scuttler.

That one can be rerolled though afaik, fortunately.

I will have to do a small memorial image for the 3 expedition reward pets we have permanently lost once this is all over.

one of my favorite parts of the movie's production is what Andrew weir thinks of it. when he wrote the book, he didnt have any kind of "look" in mind for the characters. so when he saw the design for rocky, and saw that Ryan gosling will be grace, he fully saw them as his characters
