International display standards include things <hours>:<minutes> and <hours>:<minutes>:<seconds> but any platform is free to do whatever they want nonstandard.

Oooh, so the console tracks the total time the game is opened (sometimes it does so while the game is suspended but the console is in sleep) but the actual game counts only unpaused gameplay

Lol, that is not at all unlikely. I have too many saves (and some now lost 😢) to add the NMS-values up, but I used to have a dedicated gaming machine and NMS was slow to start up long ago, so left it running paused overnight sometimes. Lol, really bumped up my Steam hours played value. Unless you are in multiplayer with others present in your instance, NMS autopauses more than we notice.

Oh, it is really random. I've had saves like that, and others where only some of the rarer systems (like black holes or Atlas interface systems) had been visited. (And that only because quests direct us to the closest ones so it "funnels" players to visit.)

Unfortunately, your own bases from other saves are prohibited from downloading to your game, so the only way you can see them is to switch saves.

On my oldest surviving base planet, I visited it in several saves and could not "overload" from the other saves. If I recall, it didn't even prohibit me from building within my alternate save's base boundaries (it has no information from the alternate save to preclude that like it normally does for your bases in the same save, or others' bases downloaded.)

Yah, they saw you coming and baked in restrictions... It is bad enough on hub worlds with hundreds of bases from other players. You are limited to uploading only one base per planet (whichever one you upload "wins"), so other players can't see multiple bases for you on a single planet except if you are the "host" of a multiplayer group, all your bases (including the ones you don't upload) are visible to the group members, and even after they leave the group (at least until the game session is over). I've attended multi-base parties hosted by some players on here, where they had made a resort. I don't recall, but I think there is a per-planet player limitation on total number of bases also. (Like one uploadable and only 4 overall? Not sure about the max, I may be confusing it with portable device limit.)

Ah, bases are stored in the Discoveries database, not in multiplayer. So if they upload a base, you should see it, one per planet per player. Switch 1 gets Discoveries, but not multiplayer, Switch 2 gets both, as I understand it.

Bases only upload if you tell them to. Same for discoveries; about the only autoupload is if you set a name it uploads that one discovery. So you have to use the upload buttons in various places for discoveries too. Good news is that even if the Discoveries database backend server is unreachable (network issue, whatever), NMS still gives you credit for the upload, just saves the discovery in a queue to eventually upload when the connection is established.

There's 2 types of freighter

A capital ship is a freighter, but NMS is a bit... buggy about consistent naming in this area. Not all freighters are capital ships, but once owned even system freighters appear to be capital freighters hosting frigates. (Typically it is fairly rare in the freighter defense mission where you can get the first one free for the first such encounter to be a capital ship, but it is still possible. Usually the second or (now) third encounter is more likely to be a capital ship, better is most respects to that of the first encounter.))
