when you unlock warping, you get to defend a freighter from a pirate attack and after doing that, the freighter captain invites you in and you can claim the freighter

keep in mind you can only claim the first one

if you don't like its class or how it looks, you can just take payment and keep going on till the next freighter rescue after warping

I've discovered that if you have any habs or scaffolding blocks above the space where you jump off, it will force you into the falling state rather than the skydive state. I redid my main corvette a bit just to ensure that the space requirement for skydiving is met
