That's a risk you're gonna have to take. That health being maxed shouldn't make a difference. Unless you're going against modded players or at a disadvantage, that's not gonna be a real problem. Say if you're a tropic fighting a toxic, yeah you gonna die. But most of the OHK moves about kill themselves in the process anyway.

It doesn't take too long to upgrade it, but you'll need to pay attention to when they need your help.
Any building you make will need attention every hour until done, and every hour after you can upgrade it's class if you have the materials

It's a constructable, can get the recipe (among others) on the right hand side of the vendors in the Nexus Anomaly. There are 3 levels, and each covers uses needed for lower levels, so once you get v3 that's the only one you need carry (save your inventory slots).

One update would be to add to own businesses and the game takes taxes to keep the businesses running that would be one way to see credits drop and keep needing to earn them
