purple systems should be unlocked automatically if you play on creative/custom mode, and waterworlds shouldn't be exclusive to these systems

relic worlds aren't, but are rarer in other systems

Until you upload to finalize your claim, the global view of discoveries remains "uncharted" until someone eventually does. Note that for both upload and download of discovery data, you need to be connected to the backend servers: the discovery pages show that information in the lower left .

Discovery data has been uploaded since the game began, so dates back to 2016. Even though we have only discovered maybe 1% of Euclid, some of the quests guide us to more limited locations which tend to be more often pre-discovered (like systems with Atlas interfaces, black holes, living ships, etc.)

Yup, we've had large-scale planetary resets before (a couple of times) and generally that was unpopular. That's how my starting planet (once Lush as all were back then) named after my mother became a hot hellhole. Harrumph! 😉

(I only named planets after family and friends in my oldest surviving save file, learned my lesson on that reset 😉 )

Based on the earlier resets, you are exactly right I believe. (Second reset upped the minimum planet number from 1 to 2 adding new planet types, third reset added new purple star systems. Reportedly, there are still "reserved" addresses not yet in use just as the purple stars once were reserved and not used.)

Originally I understand only 1/6 of the addressable glyph destinations were the reachable non-purple systems, while the purple ones came out of the other 5/6 but I am sure did not exhaust them, so lots of room for expansion in that way still. Heck, we could even add whole galaxies with new procgen for new planet types if HG wanted. But I'm ok with LNF getting some love from development as well as NMS 😉

Generally, I would recommend you backup your save files, and otherwise, nothing else is really needed. On Steam, you can verify your game files which is the close equivalent of reinstalling anyway. Is this because of some perceived game fault, or suspected bad mod, or what?

One thing I like about NMS is the fact that it's developed various sub-communities within one giant one. Ship hunters amd builders, Base building and corvette constructing. Animal nursing and general roleplay or Galactic cartography. It's insane when you think about it

I think that just gives you a launch shortcut, Steam can only verify its own installations. So for that you would use Gog to uninstall and reinstall, but again, check with the modding folks for better directed guidance. You won't be the first person to want to do this by any means 😉
