Seems in abandoned mode you often find the most fauna on purple system planets.
Some red star systems in that mode none of the planets have any.

Those are indeed frigate walkways. On a PC with a MOD you can use them for base building. Really helps on saving base parts (each walkway will still count as a part) but includes railing. Mitey usually builds the surface AND the railing.

Exocraft boost ---- the right Exo has a 4 second boost. The left has 1 second. Both are upgrades of similar spec.

The slower boosting Exo has two boost upgrades in a SC slot, while the 4x longer boosting Exo (right) has only one boost upgrade in SC.

Here is the thing... I had two runs, RenegadeHog first, the ex-pirate, default permadeath mode. It became boringly done fast. Then RoachHog started up an extreme permadeath, that was fun, until -despite all my attempts- became invincible, honest to his name tho. Bored again. Then now, there is this guy, the Ambassador. Has barely nothing, did as minimal as was necessary.

So i'm not doing quests at all, and only have a ship, becaause i have to. I go on foot mostly. And hitchhiking, while Mitey tries to keep everyone away 😄

Had fun times at first, managed to stuck on a planet in an abandoned system without a ship. 😄

Some of the yellow boxes in the side rooms are bugged too and will say "Inventory full" when you try to open them. Certainly not full since I have 60-80 open slots... Irritating when that is one source of upgrade modules.

I get you for the most part. You can really get to the "Ok, what's next? There's nothing" part very quickly.

That's the main reason I try to not do cheesy stuff like best money/nanite makers etc.

On the other hand the suit setup you shown above is the absolute endgame for me. Like on my current save I already have S freighter, full fleet (5 spots left for living frigates) everything to build two S class ships, S multitool etcetc but I still only have the buildable tech on my suit apart from 3 S class movement mods and 1 of each hazard protection mods.

I know the upgrade mods are super handy, but just as you said, that gives the invincible state too early for me.

(But I also totally get that so you limit yourself more than me with being stuck on a planet with a single ship .. I couldn't limit myself like that personally)

Abandoned mode is more of a grind to get decent upgrade modules so stretched that part out a bit more, though you can play that way in normal if you limit yourself on what you buy.
Starting out can be a bit slow, especially for weapons.
Getting a corvette put together really did open up options and makes everything a lot easier in my case though.

That's all I can think of. Oh and never got any upgrades for living ships .. First and last time I got a living ship I got burnt out and uninstalled the game for months 😅

I'm close to being burnt out again, that's why I delay main missions right now, feeling like once I get to purple systems I'll take a break again. (Starting a new save every time I come back 🤦🏻‍♂️)

Some technology on starships, exosuits, and multi-tools, have different types of upgrades. The ones that have a tier X-S-A-B-C, you can have at most 3 of those for each technology, but there might be other types of upgrades for the same technology. As an example, the Infra-Knife Platform for starships have a Q-Resonator upgrade that boosts the number of bullets it spits out, and this is in addition to the 3 X-S-A-B-C upgrades you can have.

I am sorry, but I have no experience with living starships in this game. As such, I don't know if there are alternative ways to boost their performance. I doubt it though, but as I said, I don't know.

For regular starships and corvettes, you can of course make sure you have 3 of the upgrade modules for each type of technology you care about, and that you have the best 3 such modules that you can get. If you don't have this, then yes, you can replace or add such modules to boost your ship, but this is common for all starships and corvettes.

You have two types of saves, restore points, which you can force by exiting your ship, and autosaves that triggers when ... well, who knows. If you have neither, with your most updated progress, then unfortunately you're out of luck.

Personally I built a save point on my corvette to that I can force the save whenever I want to.

If you have to start over from scratch, you might be inclined to try to skip a few things to get back to where you were. Let us know if you need assistance in doing this. The game is not 100% free of bugs and issues.

You do not technically need more than one basecomputer per system, unless you are doing seperate fars, etc. Having mutiple bases in a system might hit your fps a little too.

If you want to save locations, you can use a single basecomputer in a system and some save beacons on different planets
