1. You can refine rusted metal into 5 ferrite, which in turn can turn into a lot of pure ferrite
2. For nav data try to look for a Buried data icon while using scanner
3. If that's not good enough use #nms-lfg-or-trades

There's a related kind of hard-to-scan fish/ground-level flyer that is a swarm of their kind where the point you need to scan is not necessarily where the fish/flyers are but instead where the red dot that guides their motion is. That can be harder to scan too.
