Try to find a console or something to interact with, since that can snap you back to outside the wall. Also check your Quick Menu because I think NMS added some things to jump you out of "stuck in wall" or "under the map" state.

What part of the freighter are you in the walls of? The landing bay, or upstairs?

Plenty to do, it's basically a very large sandbox.
Some here have 1-2k or more hours on one save. I liked looking for different sentinel interceptors on dissonant planets on my main save, but been playing abandoned mode for a week or so now.
That one keeps you busy hunting for upgrade modules since you cant buy them from an npc.

Everybody's game uses the same seeds for the same procedural generation algorithm, so essentially everyone plays separately but everybody's universe is exactly the same.

Game has co-op multiplayer, it will synch you and other players so you can play together. It also has a form is asynchronous multiplayer, you can find bases of other players or if you find something they discovered you will see their name even when you are not actively playing with that person or if they are online. Provided those things were uploaded to the server.

Some are lush, some abandoned, some harsh.

"Do whatever you want" sounds weird, but thats actually the best advice. There isnt the best order or advice to do stuff. My general advice would be to do and finish the main story + the following storyline to have all glyphs + purple systems unlocked.

Damage with the minotaur cannon is really weird sometimes it does like 4000 damage and then sometimes it does 700 (not including crits)

You can easily be overwhelmed. All these weird recoursses or items that pile up in your inventory and you have no clue if you need all of that, where you need to go, what should be upgraded and so on. But what helps is when you mark a quest or a receipt for a certain item in your log, at the bottom right you will get a decent instruction on where to find or how to craft this stuff.

Is there maybe a difference in calculated damage when it comes to distance? Or differences when you attack minerals/flora/faune/sentinels?

There are the normal "drones" and one of the sentinels is "armoured" . Maybe the armoured ones receive less damage

Probably depends on the mode but if you have normal sized item stacks can make a lot of plates out of a 9999 stack of ferrite dust.
Wouldn't be so bad if it let you press and hold to select the # to make instead of pressing a button for each one.
