Most people don't see them because they rarely ever stumble upon an unexplored system and when they do, they usually leave without exploring. If memory serves right, Mechanoceri can only be found in unexplored star systems, which are more numerous in red stars.

Unexplored/undiscovered systems are systems that have no dominant lifeform. They don't even have a space station. These are different from an inhabited system that has never received a visitor.

yes, and no. Switch has crossplay, but crossplay between two different platforms require that the two platforms are on the same version. Unfortunately, switch is getting the short end of that deal right now, as they are several versions behind. Once they catch up ... and the others doesn't race ahead again ... switch players can play with other platforms again.

well i'm unsure if you've played before or not, but it's good, i got 40 hours in 3 days working on the campaign and side missions getting distracted, there's a lot to do initialliy! after you've finished the campaign you can feel a bit lost but that's when i jumped into creative mode and started letting some freedom flow with the corvette and base building, i'll eventually get to a point where i need something new but exploratino is a MASSIVE part of the 18 quintillion planets!

don't forget you can play with friends, in a limited sense, it's more like you can join them and see what they've made and experience their planets you can do a few missions with them too but a bit limited nonetheless, AND you can tame animals?? what's not to love!

that's entirely up to you! the main story is a good bit long, if you sit down and really focus on it i think it can be done in like 10 hours? but also, do get lost in everything else you can do, having the story there for me to fall back on when feeling lost was very helpful, build bases! explore! kill sentinels! endulge in whichever you feel at the time is appropriate, a good balance could be an hour of gameplay between each story mission, (unless you get really invested then go crazy!) this is all my personal opinion, i've had the game for a little over a week now!

the campaign does also function a bit like a tutorial, it will teach you things and unlock recipes, it's your guide in the unknown

My personal answer to this would be yes and no. There are some things in the later game that require you to complete the main story in order to unlock. Autophage quest, or gas giants for example

purple systems entirely, theres a hyperdrive thats locked behind questlines, youll get purple systems after finishing enough

To follow up, I wouldn't really recommend doing everything in one sitting because then you'll get burnt out. More like, pick a goal, work towards that goal, and don't be afraid to stray off the path every now and then to find something cool
