If you can find a waste plant next to a waste heap your in luck. It seems that waste heaps do respawn, and from testing it seems that once you clear out a waste heap, go pick up some waste piles and and in my testing, that causes the waste heap to respawn it's waste. How many piles im not sure, it also might he linked to scraping a set number of waste, also unsure about that

Fortunately I have scrap on the same planet as my main settlement.
It's only about -60 degrees, no extrem storms, you can steamroll through the debris, no dangerous fauna, and the terrain is "mostly agreeable".

I think the colossus needs some love to be worth using. The latest update helps (because I can see more configs making it so it can do some interesting things) but right now I don't think I'd ever want to build it unless I have to.
