There's really no serious negative consequences to attacking people. You can even reset your reputation back to 0 if you go too far into the negatives. Just do whatever you think is more fun

Yes, buy a ship from a landed pilot in a space station, go to the back, main level far left and use that to scrap the ship, there's a good chance you will get an expansion module from it

Fair point. As I recall, the crafting use is for exocraft modules (I think), so likely midgame later on-ish. If you drop a base on a planet where you can harvest more, no reason to keep this batch.
