The autonomous mining unit requires babysitting and refueling. Mineral extractor is building it and forgetting about it until you need to collect from it

For the amount of time it takes the autonomous mining unit to do its job you can mine the entire node with the smallest terrain manipulator. And walk away with more resources in the end

A galaxy region (i.e. stars sharing the same region name) always has only 1 guild, if you see a merc guild, make a note of its region name and don't visit any stars of that region.

PIracy in Pirate region is also another option if you don't fee like warping a lot of stars, some cargo pods have frigate module, though frankly I gave up after 3.

But to answer your other question, A class tool with fully teched weapons and tools is still very capable, S ranks would be a fairly small upgrade by comparison.

Most end game players usually get their S rank tools via upgrading lower ranks than hunting for naturally spawning ones
