I remember well parking my exocraft next to a parking pylon at a POI, summoning my spaceship, then saving the game. When I reloaded next, my ship took off without me onboard, bumbled around, and eventually crashed into the buildings, triggering the death sequence... Since this was not an earned death, I leapt for the Alt-F4, and when I reloaded that save next time, I summoned my starship manually elsewhere, averting the bug. This was in permadeath, btw. When I opened the bug report, I was able to provide the save file and the workaround for the bug as well. Good times.

It is a common thing. There are shortcuts via portals, or you can follow the Galactic Center path through Black Holes and a lot of warping (I like to recommend it at least one time just for the experience: it makes you appreciate the shortcuts the next galaxy center you visit ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

10,000 ly closer to center for regular ones (but take you farther around the center also), or 20,000 ly closer to center for double black holes (likewise also taking you around the center as well, twice as far). They are good for seeing parts of the galaxy you wouldn't see making a beeline for the center route.

Hmm, the first jump to the center of the Euclid galaxy is actually a Atlas Path (single player quest) thing. Friends can tag along or join your game while you do it (or hang out with you at the last system you visit before the jump (which are usually called core edge systems by players for that reason, and every core has more than one such core edge system. Because of their special nature, folks like to build bases on core edge systems, and in fact lots of systems near the core edge are already explored by fellow travelers.))

Less common in the more heavily visited galaxies like Euclid, but sure, venturing out from the core edge you can find unvisited systems still. Mind you there are only about 12 core edge systems per galaxy I believe, so those are rarely unvisited for the heavily visited galaxies. And since lots of players have done the Grand Tour visiting all the galaxies, I would not be surprised if unvisited ones are rare by now.

<:AtlasNmscord:1269532093076078658> **Galaxy Information**

How many galaxies are there in No Man's Sky?

There are 256 galaxies in No Man's Sky.

Euclid is labeled as Galaxy #0 in game files, but often referred to as Galaxy #1 by the community.
Odyalutai is #255 in game files, referred to as #256 by the community.

Players may only access galaxy 255 (Odyalutai) if they join the game of someone, or visit a base in galaxy 255, or save edit to get there.

Players who join the game of someone in galaxy 256 (or any other number outside the range 0-255) will instead see Odyalutai; with stars and planets in identical positions but core colour, procgen names and tech seeds shuffled.
gdiv
What happens if you warp through the core of galaxy 255?

You return to Euclid, the starting galaxy for all game modes except some expeditions.
gdiv
I've heard about a galaxy 257 called Yilsrussimil; does it exist?

It's possible to use a save editor to reposition yourself into galaxy 257. However, the galaxy name will be shown as Euclid, Odyalutai, or Yilsrussimil, depending upon where you see it shown in the game. Further, players in Odyalutai using the same coordinates show up in your system, demonstrating it's more of a glitch in the game than a true place; after saving and reloading, you will be shown in Odyalutai, and unable to see the Yilsrussimil name henceforth without using the save editor again. So, galaxy 257 does not exist; if it's anything, it's a display artifact when using the save editor.
gdiv
What about negative numbered galaxies?
No Man's Sky can generate galaxy names for any number you put into the save file (outside the range 0-255), but you will be in Odyalutai (galaxy 255).
gdiv
How many regions are in each galaxy, and how many systems per region?

There are approximately 4.27 billion regions per galaxy (4095x4095x255), with regions possibly having as few as 122 star systems and as many as 600+.
gdiv
What types of galaxies are there, and how do they differ?

Lush, Empty, Normal and Harsh; the galaxy type affects the distribution of planet biomes in yellow systems, and probability of extreme survival planets.

Guess I'm going to have to figure out how to get to Odyalutai. Guess it was removed or something โ˜ ๏ธ

blazing wraith
# wet stag That's the one I think I heard of...I couldn't understand the details though, I'...

Originally, core jumping in galaxy N led you to another galaxy N+1. Euclid is 1, etc. Jumping from 255 led you to a distinct galaxy 256, 256 led to 257, and so on. But we players just flew through the original 255 galaxies and folks were getting far out. The belief is that spawning new galaxies was stretching the data storage requirements in worrisome ways, so NMS was changed so that jumping from 255 now leads you back to 1 (Euclid), limiting the number of galaxies. However, I believe 256 was preserved as a special case, since there were folks who had bases there. It is no longer normally reachable, unless you join the game of someone who is there, or someone with a base there teleports to that base. (Last time I personally checked, this was still true. However, this is subject to code revision.) It is also possible to glitch to galaxies numbered higher or techniques/mods to visit them; in current code however, despite the galaxies having a distinctly generated name, they map to the base galaxies 1 to 256* (so you will see Euclid bases in 257*, etc.)
Footnote:* I have seen reports 256 no longer exists and is the one that maps to Euclid despite it still having the distinct name it did way back when, so 257 would map to 2, if so, and so on.
